I looked in the .desktop file and it contains:

Code: Select all

Categories=PackageManager;GTK;System;Settings;
ISTM we need to have"PackageManager" or"System" override"Settings".
according to this, you already do override:
========= SCRAPER REMOVED AN EMBEDDED LINK HERE ===========
url was:"https://github.com/Antix-Linux/Build-iso/blob/master/Themes/full/misc/synaptic.desktop#L170"
linktext was:"https://github.com/Antix-Linux/Build-is ... sktop#L170"
====================================

Those"theme" files are written within the build chroot after packages have been downloaded+installed, right?
So how does synaptic.desktop wind up populated with"Categories=PackageManager;GTK;System;Settings;"
???

UNetbootin is omitted from the Systems Tools category
unetbootin accessible via the ControlCenter, IIRC. Click the various tabs and check out the contents.

However, on both the frugal boot from the usb flash drive and the full install, when booting the 32bit version on two diferent 32bit computers i get a"Loading cpufreq kernel modules failed" message during boot, this happens for version 17b2 and 17b3 but not the current 16.2
FWIW, on my PentiumD system (X86_FAMILY_15_MODEL_4) I've always seen that message, regardless of distro, regardless of 32 or 64 bit OS.
I never thought to mention this; I just presumed either the CPU or the BIOS was incompatible.

Using lxappearance, switch away from using the default (Arc) theme.
In my testing, the screen text immediately becomes noticeably sharper (more crisp) as soon as I select an alternate theme, even ArcDark.
When I switch back to Arc, the screen text immediately becomes less crisp.

I recall encountering similar problems, specific to Arc, when betatesting MX16... but other testers couldn't reproduce.

Thanks for all the feedback, bug reports.

RC1 will fix the bugs found including the synaptic menu entry error.

Looking forward to it!

@skidoo: I think ArcDark is the best dark theme I have ever seen, and seems to work well on almost everything.

I can't find UNetbootin in the Control Center.
Please direct me to where it is.
Thanks

I'm still losing the console themeing on all consoles after installation. The font seems to take, but not the side border graphics. This is with a 64 bit b3 base install. Here's a relevant (I think) error message from dmesg

Code: Select all

[ 5.169094] udevd[605]: failed to execute '/live/bin/set-console-width' '/live/bin/set-console-width --auto udev-rule-92': No such file or directory
I'll try to do a fresh install later and see if I just broke something.

Also, in control panel, antiX installer remains even after an install. which is a little strange. same goes for antix-cli-cc

ie: brightness tool - THANK YOU!

ie: streamlight notification area icon ... almost certainly related to gtk version and yad. Other yad icons have similar problem, even just" yad --notification" to get the standard yad icon in the systray. Haven't found any magic bullets yet, and seems limited to icewm as has been previously mentioned and noted in release notes.

more later!

Thanks d.o.! No need for a re-install. I'll email you some ideas for a fix.

The early dialog simply (and perhaps confusingly) presents"Shall we proceed?" along with OK/Cancel buttons.

I had intended to followup locally (in order to avoid creating a translation burden) by injecting text into that dialog,
encouraging users to shutdown web browser, SaveAll any open WIP documents before proceeding...

...but was (am) stymied howto inject an additional textbox into the yad dialog.
ah hahaha if it wuzza snake it woulda bit me...

Are you running live or installed? You can try to beat this back by using the htop program and then using the <F6> key to sort by PERCENT_CPU. If you don't have any extra programs running then the next place to look is unneeded services being launched at start up. The command to control these services is sysv-rc-conf which needs to be run in a console. It is probably also available in the Control Centre.

If you run htop on both systems you may be able to identify what has changed. OTOH, the difference may be due to changes inside of programs that you (we) don't have control over. Every year, the same programs take up more and more space and use more and more CPU. The growth seems to be keeping up with Moore's Law.
