Invalid Web Addresses for ROX

The reference and help pages links for ROX at roscidus.com produce 404 Not Found messages.

The home page,
========= SCRAPER REMOVED AN EMBEDDED LINK HERE ===========
url was:"http://roscidus.com"
linktext was:"http://roscidus.com"
====================================
contains only three links. One of them refers to ROX. It seems the location for ROX stuff is
========= SCRAPER REMOVED AN EMBEDDED LINK HERE ===========
url was:"http://rox.sourceforge.net/desktop"
linktext was:"http://rox.sourceforge.net/desktop"
====================================
.

Affected antiX links found so far:
  • Main menu-->Help-->antiX-->ROX Manual
  • The installed FAQ in /usr/share/antiX/FAQ/rox.html

  • ========= SCRAPER REMOVED AN EMBEDDED LINK HERE ===========

ROX-Filer Edit Text File as Root

As an unprivileged user, attempting to (right-click) edit a text file owned by root, an error message is generated Failed to execute child process...Edit As Root (Permission denied).

A fix is posted here suggestion-rox-filer-edit-text-file-as-root-t4570.html

I'm using antix 13.1 64
Everything opens for me except for"Main menu-->Help-->antiX-->ROX Manual"
The web address must be out of date.

antiX Repos

Following this upgrade post31233.html#p31233 the repo sources are listed below.

Code: Select all

grep -v '#' / etc/apt/sources.list.d/debian.list
deb http://ftp.uk.debian.org/debian/ wheezy main contrib non-free
deb http://security.debian.org/ wheezy/updates main contrib non-free
grep -v '#' / etc/apt/sources.list.d/antix.list
deb http://www.daveserver.info/antiX/debs/ testing main
Daveserver contains branches .../repo/stable/ and .../repo/testing/.

The repo sources on this local system have never been edited manually. The intention has never been to use unstable repos. In such a case should the default antiX repo be:
deb

url was:"http://www.daveserver.info/antiX/debs/"
linktext was:"http://www.daveserver.info/antiX/debs/"

stable main
?

There is no stable repo working yet (or it shouldn't be) for that repo address. There will be a new address with the stable and testing repos and users should at some point in the future will have their antiX.list antiX repo pointing to stable (old Testing)

eject works for me without /dev/cdrom or /dev/sr0 on mine in terminal when things get stuck.
Try

Code: Select all

eject
in root terminal also in case it is a permissions issue and you are not part of the cdrom group.

Try it but error -> unable to eject last error:inappropriate ioctl for device, but if i try this:

Steps:

1. 'sudo eject /dev/sr0'

2. 'file /dev/sr0'

3. 'sudo eject -i off'

works.Also i wonder why it dont recognized at boot? I check fstab and both are there /dev/sr0 & /dev/cdrom

BTW thanks!

Upgrading Video Driver via sgfxi Fails (Reports Issue with gcc)

Stable repo
antiX-13.2-Full-64
Toshiba Satellite Pro 660D-1D9

20 days ago this worked as reported in this post
toshiba-laptop-fn-keys-t4661.html
Now fails with error message

Code: Select all

Preparing driver install...
ERROR: (230) Could not detect gcc version: /usr/bin/gcc-4.8, or it is not installed.
Please let the script maintainer know, this may be a bug in the script.

Code: Select all

cat /proc/version
Linux version 3.7.10-antix.5-amd64-smp (unknown) (root@antiX1) (gcc version 4.8.1 (Debian 4.8.1-10) ) #3 SMP fri Oct 4 23:41:00 EEST 2013
It seems something has changed in the last 3 weeks.

Installing the driver is neccessary as it is the only way found to successfully adjust the screen brightness (currently glaringly bright).

Install gcc-4.8 and try again

Argh. There is no gcc-4.8 in Wheezy.

Ok, I'll rebuild the kernel using gcc-4.7 (which is what I thought I had done).

IceWM Tooltips No Longer Honoured

antiX-13.2-Full-32 & antiX-13.2-Full-64
Repo Stable
Hardware Various

A customised IceWM theme incudes the following to define the tooltip

Code: Select all

ColorToolTip="#FFFFE1" # Background colour of tooltips
ToolTipFontNameXft="sans:size=10.5"
ColorToolTipText="#000000"
In 13.1-Full-Stable-32 it produces the following which honours the definition
Tooltips working in 13.1
Tooltips working in 13.1

In 13.2-Full-Stable-32/64 it produces the following which does not honour the definition
13.2 Tooltips Failing
13.2 Tooltips Failing

It is consistently observed when ROX or Space manage the desktop. What has altered between 13.1 and 13.2 to change the behaviour?
