WIFI via USB Adaptor Issue Update to bug report post30183.html#p30183

This seems to be a kernel related matter.
In addition to the kernels mentioned in the original (linked) report a kernel from Debian Stable has been tested.

Installed
linux-image-486

Code: Select all

uname -r
3.2.0-4-486
With this kernel everything works as expected.

Hopefully this will help pin down the matter in the antiX kernel.

Edit
Status: FIXED - tested and working in kernel 3.11.5-antix.1-486-smp

Thanks Dave (That phrase reminds me of 2001 A Space Oddesy).

Once it is proven to work as expected perhaps we might add it to antiX-Stable.

It would be quite a major change, I know it can be done manually, but I am not sure about it working through a deb update. It seems to me that there will be a lot of conflicts within the users home directory. As the deb really has no control over the home directory and it requires quite a few wm changes / xinitrc removal / menu updates /etc. It may be possible to make an optional package (separate from the repo) for those who wish to install it at their own risk. Otherwise it would be best to make a stable version of 14, but I don't think that would be likely to happen.

In these circumstances it seems unsuitable to even attempt to make it available within the present Stable release.

In my view, the overriding requirement for Stable is that it continues to work on-demand whenever it is used. We should avoid introducing any changes that might break it. Waiting until the next major point release of antiX-Stable seems entirely appropriate.

Since some updates/upgrades last weekend, Transmission Bittorrent Daemon fails to start at boot-up and it has also become neccesary to select WM before logging in, whereas before it just logged me into Fluxbox.

Also logging in on Init-3 brings me to the Slim Login screen, and that defintely is weird.

I fixed things by removing trasmission and installing deluge. As for the log-in problem, I have become the biggest idiot around because this is easily fixed by using the Control Center.

When you install antiX in"testing" or"sid", (include antiX-14)
Chromium browser works by lack of API key abnormally now.
There is a problem with Debian package and done bug report.

(This is the problem that is different from the post of the other day.)

Because I noticed a problem of metapackage-installer, I report it.

Installation and an error produce Chromium.
This language file package name is"chromium-browser-l10n".
This came to be contributed only in"chromium-l10n" in jessie(conventional testing) and sid.

This package is offered in"chromium-l10n" in wheezy.
Therefore installer should change"chromium-browser-l10n" to"chromium-l10n".

This influences it in antiX choosing testing and sid.
antiX-14 is testing base. Therefore all development version of antiX-14 is an object of this problem.
MX-14 is only wheezy base, this problem does not produce the present conditions.

antiX 13.2 64 bit installed to one Logical Partition (36 GB).

Fresh install. I use a USB 3G Modem. GnomePPP cannot get online when I'm User. It will get online if I'm root.

EDIT: Quick fix was to download and install KPPP, open it, then close it. Then GnomePPP would connect. (even though KPPP would not)

Installed antix on very old Dell last week and love it.

I set it to space-icewm.

I installed guake terminal but it doesn't appear when I click (or double-click) the app.

Any suggestions on how to resolve?

Thanks.

Just as a test. I installed guake on my beta2 install running testing repos.

Code: Select all

harry@antix1:~
$ inxi -r
Repos: Active apt sources in file: etc/apt/sources.list.d/antix.list
           deb http://antix.daveserver.info/testing/ testing main nosystemd
           Active apt sources in file: etc/apt/sources.list.d/debian.list
           deb http://ftp.us.debian.org/debian/ testing main contrib non-free
           deb http://security.debian.org/ testing/updates main contrib non-free
           Active apt sources in file: etc/apt/sources.list.d/various.list
           deb http://mozilla.debian.net/ experimental iceweasel-beta
           deb http://debs.slavino.sk/ testing main non-free

Code: Select all

harry@antix1:~
$ which guake
/usr/bin/guake
So running guake in terminal to find out what is going on.

Code: Select all

harry@antix1:~
$ guake

Notification service is not running (yet). Guake can't display notifications!
  We'll retry a few times more a bit later, but you can use
  the following command to disable the startup notification:
$ gconftool-2 --type bool --set /apps/guake/general/use_popup false
So yeah. There is a problem. My servers for my internet service provider are under water.

So I cannot dig into this as my MB allocation is very limited on my JetPack.

open up the terminal (roxterm) and type:

Code: Select all

guake-prefs
you will the preferences dialog for guake. uncheck the box for notifications and close. now quake should be able to run (you'll see the tray icon appear). F12 will cause the terminal window to drop down.

apparently not having a notification daemon running causes guake to fail as it assumes a gnome or gnome-like environment for notifications.
