Hi masinick,
Congrats on the job and glad to hear you have somewhere to live.

erie, test1 uses a modified xorg.conf.in (from where the xorg.conf is produced) from previous versions. Maybe have a look at the included old one (xorg.conf.in.old) or use that as xorg.conf.

hal/udev should have picked up the mouse and touchpad though.

I wasn't able to spend a lot of time on it but I will try to look into it further.

I would like to suggest that the Debian FAQ comes bookmarked in Iceweasel (antiX-Linux folder):

========= SCRAPER REMOVED AN EMBEDDED LINK HERE ===========
url was:"http://www.debian.org/doc/FAQ/"
linktext was:"http://www.debian.org/doc/FAQ/"
====================================
" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false
It shows in the system's language. A direct link to the English (sometimes more complete) version:

========= SCRAPER REMOVED AN EMBEDDED LINK HERE ===========
url was:"http://www.debian.org/doc/FAQ/index.en.html#contents"
linktext was:"http://www.debian.org/doc/FAQ/index.en.html#contents"
====================================

Sorry guys. Been way busy on my end with personal business. First boot of AntiX 8.5 via Live USB made with Unetbootin on a Acer Aspire One, (bought it from the wife after she bought a New Acer Laptop). Ok. I haven't read all the posts in this thread yet before I post so if I missed some obvious instructions on how to boot or test. Please excuse me. Tried the Persistence Boot option from the menu. Got a couple quick errors about not being able to do persistence boot, flashed by real quick and it is early morning here and I didn;t catch the errors yet. Give me time to wake the hell up.

Ok, finished boot to deaktop. 60 odd mb of ram being used in conky. Slick/Nice. Go to connect with wicd. Get a dbus error message and says check wicd log files. Cool No problem if I knew where log files were.

Ok I go to ceni. It sees my wireless router and network. I have a simple setup, no wep. Go to connect. Ceni can't connect for some reason. Tried a few times.

So on to ruitilt and it sees my network. Go to connect. Connects right up. I am doing this post wirelessly from connecting with rutilt on Acer Aspire One with Atheros AR5001 Wireless Network Adapter (rev 01)

I will try to get into seeing about saving changes later to USB Drive (right now I am using a 2 gig Kingston Data Traveler). But for now that is all I have to report for this netbook. I wanna try it on my Asus EEE PC 900 later to see if I have the same results/routine to go through to boot and connect.

This Acer Aspire One came with XP Home and I put Easy Peasy 1 back on it a while back as a dual booter for my wife. She never used Easy Peasy though. She is a Windows Girl. So since this netbook has the 160gig HD. I may make some room for 8.5 later as a triple boot. Got the room.

Got some catching up to do. Gotta read up on lagopus thread and see what I got to do to enable persistence yet. Put this netbook next to the desktop so I can read from one screen and and apply instructions to the other.

PS, Kewl Wallpaper. No snow yet here in the desert. Cold tonight though with 25F temps. 70F Days.

Edit: forgot to mention this is the full 8.5 iso, not the base.

2nd test, adjusted gamix to max settings. Went to youtube. Everything works. Sound and Flash. So far so good on this Acer Aspire One running Live.

3rd test, tried launching system>antiX2usb from menu. Got the login screen. Logged in. It flashed and that was it. So went to terminal. Logged in as root. And used the antix2usb sh script and it opened up the gui to save to USB, That is as far as I got because I wanted to save the changes to rutilt but don't know where the connect file or rutilt file is at yet. Looks like it will work though as long as you use terminal to open antiX2usb instead of menu entry.

lagopus is working on fixing the opening from the menu. For log files (like the Wicd one) you may look in /var/log/

Just posting this for info purposes. After reading log file. I am guessing wicd needs a wired connection first to identify network before it can connect to wireless. Best uneducated guess anyhows.

Tried a simple save to usb using antix2gui.sh to 5t2 mb on 2 gig Kington with AntiX 8.5 live install on it. It is formatted as fat32 to boot up live. Tried saving a downloaded wallpaper. Agreed to let it format drive and it failed. Unfamiliar territory me trying to do a persistence save to usb. So I might be doing something wrong here.

Below is the error I got /tmp/iso2usb.log.

Code: Select all

Error: 255 - -p unrecognised option
That is it for me today. Got to take care of business now.

rokytnji:

The error:

Code: Select all

Error: 255 - -p unrecognised option
is due to the fact that your antix2usb.sh script does not support this option; it is not the last version
Have a look at the latest tarfile I posted, use the install script to copy both files (antix2usb-gui and antix2usb.sh) in /usr/local/bin, and (as root) try antix2usb.sh -h it should show the -p option (but I am not sure the help was updated...)

I'll post soon (?) a new version, solving the gksu problem...

lagopus, I don't think the problem is with the script being old as it works perfectly for me with the test1 iso.

Thanks for the feedback rokytnji.
Try adding the sudo option as posted by oldhoghead earlier in this thread and use the gui.
What size stick are you using? Is persistence option chosen? When does the app crash?

Downloaded the last tarball from your post/thread. Copiied both files over to /usr/local/bin. Did the"(as root) try antix2usb.sh -h" . When I copied them over. I got the overwrite window and said" yes to all" so I don't know why I get this readout below.

    #2) Think before you type.
#3) With great power comes great responsibility.

Just saw your post Anti. It is a 2 gig Flash drive. I could start over with a 4 gig flash drive if it needs to be bigger. Let me know. Running Live USB I chose the persistence boot option but get a
"Failed to mount at rootfs - L message, (generalzation of message as I didn't pause the boot).

I get the gui when I just run antix2usb.sh as root from previous bootup of live usb. I haven't tried it again (in this live session) as I am sorta/probably confused on what steps to take next. I will leave this running live on here on this Acer Aspire One till I figure out what to do next. Will use my Desktop to read up a little.

I got people coming by test driving my Ford Ranger as I have it for sale today so I will be in and out of here.

Screenshot below. Edited sudo file with visudo and saved changes. I just might start the heck over with a bigger flash drive. I don't know why I am having such a hard time.

Hello rokytnji

I appreciate your efforts to get the stuff working!

I think you have not the correct rights for the files.
It should look like:

Code: Select all

user@mycomputer:~$ ls -l /usr/local/bin/antix2usb*.sh
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 31065 nov 16 13:47 /usr/local/bin/antix2usb-gui.sh
-rwxr--r-- 1 root root 43514 nov 15 00:24 /usr/local/bin/antix2usb.sh
Set the correct rights:

Code: Select all

root@mycomputer# chmod 755 /usr/local/bin/antix2usb*.sh
In the tarfile you have a install.sh script that does just that.
You should have /usr/local/bin in your PATH :

Code: Select all

root@mycomputer# echo $PATH
/usr/local/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/bin:/sbin:/bin
and I use to use su, I don't use sux neither sudo
Maybe this will help, until I post an updated version...
