In Synaptic, I get the error message"No apt-xapian-index found.
In Synaptic, Settings>Repositories nothing is displayed, just the header and a blank screen.. The repositories are there in sources.list and Synaptic updates and works OK by manually editing sources.list
Anyone else having this? If not I will download the iso again, reburn and re-install.
This is both in Live CD and installed to hard drive.
PCmanFM will not display contents of other partitions even in /mnt. Shows the partition but no contents.
I usually purge PCManFM 0.9.8 and grab the older version 0.5-3 from Lenny along with the older shared-mime-info version and everything works as it should.

update on synaptic: remove and install synaptic via apt-get fixed the repositories display. Installing apt-xapian-index fixed the error message and now the quick search works.
The display now is in the same format as debian6.

Wireless this time on eth1 instead of wlan0. Wicd connects but drops out whether on dhclient or automatic in preferences. Ceni and Me never get along. Connected and posting through rutilt. I think my ISP is being flakey as hell as usual so not a legit test yet. Connection drops are frequent so far (wireless).

Same Problem with synaptic as reported by afab4. Will do as he suggests later.

Using Grub4dos to boot this instead of grub legacy. Just easier for me to install grub to root and run grub4dos to pick up AntiX. Short Test. Gotta see if I can fix synaptic next. Also I backed up my /home file in my old 8.5 install to /dev/sda8 fat32 so I can pick over what I want kept from old install. Lot's of work ahead. __{{emoticon}}__

Edit: apt-get update. apt-get purge synaptic. apt-get install synaptic. Fixed synaptic package manger. I reinstalled apt-xapian-index using synaptic package manager to fix quick search also. I did not touch /etc.apt/sources.list afab4 when I did this. Did not even check or look at it. __{{emoticon}}__ Faith! __{{emoticon}}__

Tap works. FlashBlocker, Flash, Sound, all work. Stock conky.rc was the first thing I replaced. Gotta post a screeny of course. Try these new tools out like Daves new toy __{{emoticon}}__

Will play with wireless a bit more later also in case faults are on my end. Happy Trails, Rok

2nd Edit: Played around with Wicd. Uninstalled wicd 1.7 and wicd-deamon,wicd-gtk,python-wicd. Being a wild man, I downloaded wicd 1.59 from source-forge and installed using apt-get dpk-i. I let it overwrite config files with package maintainers version by saying yes to everything. Then went back into synaptic and reinstalled wicd-deamon 1.7,wicd-gtk,python-wicd and agreed to update wicd back up to 1.7 version.

I got errors of course. Being a wild man. Funny thing is. Wicd is working good now. __{{emoticon}}__

My readout below so you can laugh at. Wondering if I should fix or leave alone. I sure in the hell don't know as my taskbar wicd monitor shows green as hell right now where before it would go red and then disconnect and drop out every few seconds. Weird?

I can't seem to boot up to X, only cli. No matter what option I used. I noticed that the grub lines were empty for all of the options. That's different from previous versions.

On the plus side, wireless works and so does elinks __{{emoticon}}__

What am I doing that's stupid?

thanks

I first burned a cdrw pivera which would not boot on this lappy. I had to use a cdr disk instead to get a good boot and install. On my live grub screen I got all kinds of Desktop options to boot into from icewm rox to fluxbox rox to you name it. Not sure why you are not getting slim.

Lets Edit this: Spoke to soon. After fixing wicd.
antix.freeforums.org could not be found. Please check the name and try again.
Not sure what is up with my wireless in this release. My wife sitting next to me on Windows 7 is not dropping connections. Had to use rutilt again to post this. I have reinstalled ipw 2200 firmware a couple of times also.

Next. I am going hardline and going to update kernel to see if fault is 2.6.32-1-mepis-smp. What a drag. __{{emoticon}}__

I tried the cd in a different laptop and it booted fine, so I knew that the burn had gone well. Went back to the previous laptop and tried the antix xorg cheats option and this time it booted fine. It booted to icewm, which is tolerable, but with icons (not my preferred mode).

Anyway, now on to testing. As I said wireless worked right off the bat in this box. Here are the specs:

My BCM4309 wireless connected flawlessly via ceni. I chose not to install WICD during install.
Tonight is"install the printer" night. Thank you for including smbclient in rc1.

update: unable to install printer via samba using control center. Installed fine via browser using localhost:631 and CUPs.

on an installed system i don't have apt-xapian-index & software-properties-gtk packages for synaptic installed. i don't get an error and the repositories window works. also i see that in the new version of synaptic in sid the quick search is gone it's no more grayed out. maybe use the sid version of synaptic to save some space ?

Next Day Boot up. Wireless is now sticking in Wicd. Good signal strength. No drops. Using Landline to experiment with sxmi seems to have settled wicd wireless down to where it connects fast now on boot up. None of the problems I experienced yesterday are now showing in wireless.

On this gear. It seems I would have saved me some grief doing install and internet hookup via landline first and then configure wireless next instead of the other way around.

Updated to Testing. (I was using Squeeze). Noticed there was an update to Synaptic included.
sgfxi to upgrade nVidia card was successful.
antiX System Locale functions worked properly renaming computer, domain, workgroup. Did not test Locales.
Disk management tools worked OK. I did not test"Run antiX to USB" function. Grub repair menu worked fine although there is no pop-up to tell you whether it was successful. No big deal just used to seeing one.

Ran a quick test on the core-install iso. The live cd boot up (after nodma in the grub options line; which btw, is blank; is it supposed to be this way). Was happy to see that ceni picked up my PCMCIA wireless card (broadcom chip), but ceni coudl not connect. It gave the following error:

b43-phy0 ERROR: Firmware file"b43-open/ucode5.fw" not found.

htop showed 36M running off the livecd, which seems higher than I remember, but I'll keep playing with it and do an install and see if the mem use decreases.

PS. Forgot to mention that I swapped out the wireless PCMCIA card for the ethernet card and Antix cored picked it up right away and connected without me doing anything, which was very nice __{{emoticon}}__

Did a core install, and htop showed 13 MB, which is more like what I remembered.

Noticed a couple of things:

1) After typing cli-installer, info is displayed about setting up the language, the resolution and some other things. Wouldn't this be better if it was displayed during the boot grub menu?

2) I had to run grub-update manually (I think this used to be part of install).

3) On reboot, I don't see an option (F3, I think) for resolution (even though the info in item 1 said it was a choice).

That's is so far. I'll load some programs and enjoy myself. This is my Anti-Xless box so maybe I'll post a picture when I'm done with it.

antiX-core does not have any non-free firmware. In fact it doesn't have any non-free stuff installed.

Using antiX-M11-rc!-686 on two computers so far, clean installs ie onto rewiped HDDs got the same problem.
On doing a logout from the gui, get no responses from monitor (led goes from green to yellow), nor mouse nor keyboard. As if I’d shutdown, without having done so. Can’t even reboot unless I turn off / turn on the machines.

Anybody else have this problem too?
Anybody not have this occur?
Just the wrong machines?
