All users should update to the latest kernels via Package Installer, synaptic or cli-aptiX.

4.19.152 (antiX-17, antiX-19, testing and sid)
4.9.240 (antiX-17, antiX-19, testing and sid)
4.4.240 (antiX-17, antiX-19, testing and sid)

antiX-19.3 (Manolis Glezos) bug-fix/upgrade isos available

All new isos are bug-fix/upgrades/improvements of antiX-19 sysvinit/runit series.

No need to download if using antiX-19(.x).

antiX-19.3 (Manolis Glezos) is based on Debian Buster and is fully systemd-free.

As usual we offer the following systemd-free flavours for both 32 and 64 bit architecture, running sysvinit or runit.

antiX-full (c1.2GB) – 4 windows managers – IceWM (default), fluxbox, jwm and herbstluftwm plus full libreoffice suite.

antiX-base (c770MB no longer fits on a cd) – 4 windows managers – IceWM (default), fluxbox, jwm and herbstluftwm.

antiX-core (c470MB) – no X, cli-installer without UEFI support nor encryption, but should support most wireless.

antiX-net (c170MB)- no X, cli-installer without UEFI support nor encryption. Just enough to get you connected (wired) and ready to build.

The 32 bit versions use a non-pae kernel.

Changes:

This series has put on some weight mainly due to the kernel supporting old and new hardware and the inclusion of more firmware (full, base and core editions).

* antiX wifi switch – tool to choose which wifi manager to use. Default is connman, ceni available.
* Improved and updated localisation
* mps-youtube includes another fix for apt_key bug
* A newer 4.9.235 kernel
* firefox-esr (78.3.0esr)
* libreoffice 7.0.2.2
* IceWM upgraded to latest upstream version (1.8.3)
* latest firmware backported from Debian sid.
* various upstream Debian security upgrades

Known issues:

* If you want to use the iso-snapshot application, you must upgrade both iso-snapshot-antix and iso-template-antix to latest versions (0.3.20 and 19.14 repectively)

See here for full list of what’s included on antiX-19 series.

Enjoy!

Wifi with connman – antiX 19.2

This is from antiX user and helper, Xecure.

For a long time, people have been having problems setting up their wireless connections with connman. Some were not able to find it, for some connman did not perform as expected. Others started using CENI before trying out connman.

I have created a video for all those users who are having difficulties with connman. It includes a few case scenarios:
– Connman is not in the Control Centre.
– Wifi is softlocked
– Connman doesn’t scan for Wireless Access Points.
– Connman gives out a strange error.

I hope this video can help all those who have problems with connman.

The only case I forgot to include is “The user set up wifi with CENI before trying out connman”.
For those reading this, the solution is to edit /etc/network/interfaces and remove the configuration created by ceni.
To edit the file, execute in terminal:
sudo geany /etc/network/interfaces
Edit the file until it only contains these lines:
#------------------------------------------------------------------------------
# /etc/network/interfaces
#
# interfaces(5) file used by ifup(8) and ifdown(8)
# Used by ceni but not by connman
#------------------------------------------------------------------------------

auto lo
iface lo inet loopback

Save the file and restart your system.

Latest IceWM 1.8.1 available

For those using testing or sid repos, there is an automatic upgrade the the very latest IceWM version (1.8.1), which is not even in Debian sid yet.

If you want to test this out on buster/stable antiX-19 series, add dev to the antiX sources list and do

sudo apt update && sudo apt dist-upgrade

I have been running it on antiX stable for 3 days without issue.
