I am connected via the wireless adapter. I am using wpa2 security. I am unable to access websites that are not cached via my wired connection. At least I am happy I got the adapter's power light to come on and the D-link adapter is on the way.

The adapter disconnects at times and I get multiple icons for connection at the bottom. Can my security setting be a problem.

when trouble shooting a wireless connection, it can be beneficial to disable security on the router, just to eliminate problems.

it sounds like you are going in the right direction though!

how about posting the output of (as root) iwconfig and ifconfig. Do this while connected via wifi.

also, a cool forum tweak is to be code tags around your output, so they will be highlighted in a box.

I will try removing security on my wireless router tonight and let you know if that solves the problem.

You guys did it, walked a newbie through a tough install to make my Linksys wireless adapter work!! Thanks greatly for all of your help and patience. I learned so much during this process. DO, those videos are very helpful. I have watched some of them several times.

Last night the my Internet connection was dropping out and reconnecting. Tonight, I took it to another part of the house farther from the wireless router and it stayed connected for a good half hour while I was on the web. So, for now it appears to work as is.
