unplugged ethernet cable and still no connect.
How do I"See if atmel_cs takes over as driver for the Xircom card then."

Now would be the time as root in terminal to do the modprobe atmel_cs command. Then run inxi -F and Ifconfig to see if eth0 shows up.

Edited out everything but the end of the kern.log readout to show when my wlan0 connects via a usb wifi
/var/log/kern.log is a loooooooong readout so look for any firmware missing lines as per example:
but yours will say wlan0 instead of eth0. Failed to load firmware may say atmel_cs in above line readout also.
LOL. 5 pages,789 views, and 62 replies for a Belkin card. Wow. __{{emoticon}}__

You forgot to hit space bar between inxi and -F command is why
inxi-F
eth1 shows in ifconfig with a mac address so something is powering that card. INXI will show if atmel_cs is doing the job.hmmm...seems it didn't like the inxi -F

Crap. INXI is not showing your Belkin card either. I am going to go over to my IBM Laptop that uses a Belkin F5D7010 ver 6 pcmcia card and see what is going on with it because it works.
In the meantime. Copy and paste this command in terminal ,(run it as root # ), and run it. P.S. I have had to edit your posts since this thread started. All your terminal readouts and log messages are easier to read when readouts are posted in between code tages which are the code button on tool bar under Full editor tab on reply window. I had cataract surgery a while back and I need all the help I can get reading readouts in a forum setting.

My apologies. I didn't know about the code formatting trick. (From what I've heard about cataract surgery, it really makes a positive difference)

This is stumping the heck out of me. I am up just for a minute. My dogs were barking alot outside so I went to my shop to check on the bikes. I keep this shop computer running so I checked my email. I aint fully awake.
iconfig shows eth1. ifconfig shows eth1. ifconfig -a shows eth1. lsmod shows atmel_cs being used by 1. But.
lspci does not show the Belkin card. inxi does not show the Belkin card. pcmcia sockets are being enabled by yenta. WTF, am I having a sleep walking nightmare?
why the heck is my iwconfig and resolv. conf and kernel ip routing table so freaking different than yours? Belkin is the name of my router in resolv.conf where it says"search Belkin".
I know I aint being of much help in this. We have dug and dug deep into this issue. I don't remember if I asked this earlier in the thread. Did you do a md5sum check of AntiX downloaded iso before burning the cd?
This kind of ghost in the machine problem makes me think that the iso download may have corrupted in transit is why I ask. Maybe a new cd burn may be in order also after clearing a md5sum check. Your card should be working dammit. Now I am going to wonder while trying to get back to sleep. __{{emoticon}}__
Edit: I deleted your double post in case you are wondering. __{{emoticon}}__

Whew! This just doesn't seem to be fair to you, your dogs, or your motorcycles.
I would like to continue to pursue the issue--there must be some sort of digging I can do into the Windows part of this dual boot to find and extract the information that needs to be inserted into the antiX kernel (excuse me if I'm confusing the technical terminology)--but this particular thread has gone on too long.
I did not do a checksum on the original install. Also I suppose that in the install process something could have been skipped. (I didn't know about checksumming then, but have done so on another Linux install iso file (UbuntuStudio--which I have checksummed but not yet installed [on another computer] yet--oldest/first (this computer) things first...)
Sooooooooooo, is this a good plan?
1) I go back to the antiX iso file and do a checksum on it.
or 1b) I redownload antiX (things might have changed since the file I used.) and checksum it.
2) I reinstall antiX (dual boot w. XP) wiping out the version I have up now. (I assume nothing needs to be done to delete what I currently am running.)
3) You close this thread (how'd you delete my double posting?, and should I have been able to do so?) [Incidentally, there was a logical reason I double posted--it had to do with [Submit]ting and then suddenly realizing I wanted to [Preview] the post...] Please do not delete the thread. It's become my defacto Linux users manual. __{{emoticon}}__
4) I open a new thread announcing current antiX Wifi conditions. __{{emoticon}}__ or __{{emoticon}}__ or __{{emoticon}}__
JXR try the latest test release of antiX. It has a newer kernel that might just get your Belkin to work out of the box.

I just deleted the posts because you said oops I double posted. So don't sweat closing the thread.
Md5sum and me is a must on any Linux install because I have seen all kinds of weird problems with corrupted iso downloads is why I mentioned it. Burning cd at 4x or slow speeds is another practise of mine. I have filled this forum
with problems I have encountered but I have never had to blame a corrupted iso for the problems or a bad burn either in
any threads I ever started.
Your wifi card should just work. All the evidence seems to point to that.
Your plan sounds good to me. This thread won't be deleted. If you start a new thread.
I might request Anti or darkD or OHH to lock this thread for posterity reasons though.

Per anticap's suggestion (see message before last):
I Downloaded the latest version: antiX-base-t3.iso 2012-04-25 363.9 MB
Attempted to run AntiX Live
- antiX-base-desktop: nothing but blinking cursor on black screen
- antiX-base-desktop nouveau: nothing but blinking cursor on black screen
- the rest...: nothing but blinking cursor on black screen
(very discouraging) Now what.
(I'm running antiX-M11-686. The only other option on
