If wanting to view kernel /var/log/messages in terminal. You'll need to be root user in terminal to do the below command.

Code: Select all

grep kernel /var/log/messages

inxi-F

Network: Card 3Com 3c905C-TX/TX-M [Tornado] driver 3c59x port 3000 bus-ID: 02:01.0
...

The card was plugged in (and lit) when I ran inxi -F the first time. I reentered inxi -F and it returned the same data (checked it against my post above...letter for letter)

I can't go to the page you specified on my laptop and run the test because I don't have an internet connection...no WiFi...

Also, if it helps, when I had Ubuntu working, it instantly got wireless connection through this card (it picked up my LinkSys router immediately).

Response to grep kernel /var/log/messages

Apr 21 10:15:34 antiX1 kernel: [22001.032782] pcmcia_socket pcmcia_socket0: pcca
rd: card ejected from slot 0

(the Belkin card is still in the slot - if this is the card kernel is talking about and lit. If I switch boot to XP the card will engage wireless immediately.)

Not sure why that message is there but no wonder the card won't show in inxi -F readout if that message is related to the pcmcia slot the wireless card is plugged into. .

This is the first time I have ever seen inxi -F fail to pick up a pcmcia card for wireless. I know because

Back from the bar. So a bit tipsy. I am not all here right now.

Code: Select all

http://www.belkin.com/support/download. ... ver2&mode= provides driver downloads for this unit (it seems), if that helps.
I downloaded the XP driver and extracted the .exe file to look inside to see if I could find your chip. Nothing was in install.ini or any other .exe file I extracted that showed what wireless chip is used.

I laughed when I saw the misspellings in code in the install.init which spelled company : compamy

So did some searching on my own

Installation on Debian Sarge/Testing, kernel 2.6.3

Since kernel 2.6, driver support for this card is built in in the kernel.
However, a proprietary firmware is needed. This can be installed very easy with synaptic or with apt-get:

apt-get install atmel-firmware

Insert card and surf
Notes

This new version of the Belkin F5D6020 is hard to distinguish from the previous version, but uses a complete different chipset, anno 2003 not yet supported out of the box in all Linux distributions.
Compared to the Proxim Orinoco Silver 8241-WD and the Lucent Orinico Gold, this F5D6020 ver.2 is very weak: basicaly, it hardly gets any signal through a wall.
Debian Sarge is ancient compared to Debian Wheezy and that card is also ancient. I should know as I run ancient gear myself. Too bad you didn't get a Belkin F5D 7010 .ver 6 wireless G pcmcia card using the Ralink wireless chip RT2561 and the driver in my kernel is rt61 pci.. No hoops to jump though for it requiring proprietary firmware to work. Just plug and play in AntiX.

I would still like to know what chip that card uses though via a inxi readout or some other readout to be sure before continuing with this thread. Because of that note at the end of my quote.

Try

Code: Select all

lscpi -knn
to see if that card shows while plugged into AntiX box.

I booted into XP and looked at the Network Card through the XP Device Manager: Under the Resource Tab Resource type"IRQ" has a setting of 03 and Resource Type"I/O Range" a setting of FF80-FF9F.

Don't know if that will help.

lscpi -knn
bash: lscpi: command not found

Finally, I posted a thread in the Ubuntu forum (titled: Wireless card cross fertilization) asking them--since the card works under their system--if they might have any advice.

I did not even have to be root to run that in my AntiX 11 iNSTALL. I am suspecting the integrity of you downloaded and burned AntiX 11 iso install now. You have too many problems for it to be otherwise.

Did you do a md5sum check of download and burn the cd at slow 4x speed on a good cdr disk. Something is terribly wrong here.

There was a typo above: lscpi -knn, which should have been lspci -knn, which would give a LOT of output.

I see that you have an Internet of some type, but it is an Ethernet controller.

When I run the command inxi -Fz, even on a non antiX system, I at least get this:

Code: Select all

Note that in"Network:" I can see by an Ethernet driver (the Intel PRO./100), and the wireless driver for the BCM4311, which is the b43 network kernel module (I install it when it's missing using the command apt-get install firmware-b43-installer. If I run into issues with it, I remove it from the module probe (modprobe -r b43) then I probe it again (modprobe b43). I don't see a wireless card in your lspci output.

Try inxi -Fz and see if we can spot it there. Is there one, and is it currently functional?

I am not using eth0 because I am on wireless posting this post. That is why it says IF : eth0 state: down. My eth0 card has a driver loaded by the kernel though, driver: 3c59x.

Don't know why I have the driver for eth0 and you don't and both pci cards are 3Com Tornado.

Sorry for the late post. Had a fever two nights ago and spent yesterday chainsawing (not a good combination, but burn season is coming to a close).

Since masinick ran inxi -Fz,"on a non antiX system" I tried running it on the XP part of the dual boot (which accesses/employs the card successfully) but all I get in response is:"'inxi' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file." (I suspect I have not gone into the proper CommandPrompt area (i.e., sux) before issuing the prompt.

But I wonder, is there any way I can get Windows XP to supply the answers you need?

There is a Belkin Wireless LAN Monitor Utility that pops up when the card is inserted that does provide: Driver Version; Firmware Version; Application Version; MAC Address...

Back to inxi -Fz (it's amazing how much quicker antiX boots than Windows!)
Running it on antiX...sux I get the response:
/usr/local/bin/inxi: illegal option - - z
Error 7: One of the options you entered in your script parameters: -Fz is not supported. The option may require extra arguments to work.
For supported options (and their arguments), check the help menu: inxi -h

The help menu does not indicate a -z option.

Based on the help menu:
inxi -Nv2

Won't work on Windows so forget that.

in Antix try

Code: Select all

inxi -F -z
with hitting space bar between the inxi and -F and -z
Do you have to install a pcmcia support package first?") seemed to cast any light on the situation.
as pointed out in my previous post. Pcmcia support is aready provided in the kernel of Antix when I showed all the adapters showing in my pcmcia slot and what they did in my inxi readout.

That Kmuto Hardware Debian check can be used in Windows. Do a

Code: Select all

lspci -n
in Antix terminal

copy terminal txt report to a text file in antix (like leafpad) and copy to thumb drive. Use

========= SCRAPER REMOVED AN EMBEDDED LINK HERE ===========
url was:"http://www.editpadlite.com/"
linktext was:"http://www.editpadlite.com/"
====================================

to open the file off usb in windows and copy and paste into

========= SCRAPER REMOVED AN EMBEDDED LINK HERE ===========
url was:"http://kmuto.jp/debian/hcl/"
linktext was:"http://kmuto.jp/debian/hcl/"
====================================

empty window and hit check button.

I know it will be a typing chore in Windows. But use the editlite progam to make a new text file in Windows. Type in everything Kmuto spits out (not just snippets). So we can close this thread AS SOLVED WHEN WE find out what exactly your hardware looks like.

Sorry to hear about
