Try adding the initrd line to the grub/syconf menu (if not already there)
initrd /boot/initrd.gz
What does syslinux.cfg or grub/menu.lst show?

initrd got me further but it still refuses to boot from the sd card
insists that the only options are the partitions on the first drive
--i have a line root (2,0) or something which should work
seems the antix kernel does not see the sd card

Maybe start a new thread with the title sd card and livecd boot or something.

I will help you this evening (european time) when back at home
Did you a live install to a SD card, or did you a HD install to a SD card from a live session ?
I will check my boot option...
Keep in line

I installed to sd card from live system/iso running from USB drive.
2 probs now: it tells me to give correct root file system option and lists only the partitions on the
internal SSD drive, where i still have the original Xandros/Debian Etch system. does not see the sd for some reason
it also included the thumbdrive in the grub install so that i cannot remove it.
