i would like to see iceweasel back in antix. i don't feel that iceape is a great improvement over it and also the debian version of it is several releases old, from what i saw it only gets security updates.

The Firefox I run in my other install is static in /home as well as QTWeb Browser also but Firefox is on the beta update channel so it updates automatically when I open Firefox . I did this stuff a while ago as just a learning thing to do. Other wise I'd run Iceweasel.
My 4gig EEEPC SSD would love that. That is the reason for my static /home 16GIG SSD drive browser installs (among other static installs in /home. Space concerns on my 4gig / SSD).
+1 from me also. I have been installing and running a static Seamonkey 2.5 in /home since uninstalling Iceape won't happen in AntiX since it is the default browser as far as synaptic is concerned. In my opinion, more and more websites are either flagging iceape as"unsupported" / have parts that do not work, or simply redirects me to a compatible webpage (usually for cell phones, etc...)

definitely +1 as IceApe is falling further behind Iceweasel as its not being maintained as much. I would actually be OK with none. I've never used any of the email clients except to test them. With online email as prevalent as it is, I don't see this as much of a problem. If someone wants an email client, they are easy to install.

Myself, I do not use a mail client, but around 1/4 of the people I know do.
From a majority standpoint I would say to have no mail client.
For the people that do wish to have a mail client, perhaps we should make a little bash script with a yad interface listing the more common mail clients for install.
EG: (fluxbox)

In my opinion AntiX would need a standard E-mail client to be somewhat beginner-friendly. Claws-mail would be a good choice.

Normally Gmail and Opera mail suffice for me mostly. For my Windstream account I can install any Debian email client I want or i can add Windstream to a email add on plugin for iceweasel like Fast mail add on.

here my personal thoughts / preferences, hope I`m not too late for the next release ...
1. iceweasel over iceape
2. no need for a email-client here
3. abiword/gnumeric for"light", libre office for"full"
4. do we still need (slitaz) mountbox? what can it do what rox can not?
5. I hope we can stay with grub legacy as long as possible.
I never understood why grub2 was invented, for me it`s just a regression and a pain in the ass to work with.
6. installing a proprietary driver is essential for most users to get certain software running.
smxi/sgfxi is the convenient way to do it in antix. however a newcomer possibly doesn´t know about these nice scripts.
maybe it might be an idea to put an entry into control center which explains the operation of the scripts (getting out of X and stuff ...)
and start them from here.
If I remember correctly, back in antixM7.x there WAS an entry for installing the prop. drivers?
7. access to internal drives/partitions (I`m not sure if this is a bug on my personal system):
pcmanfm and thunar won`t show internal drives/partitions in the sidepanel (they did in antix M8.5), no way to mount them from here.
mounting in rox is no problem. once mounted in rox they also show up in the other filers. they even stay there when they get unmounted.
why don`t they show up initially but after being mounted with rox?
8. usb-issue (unmount as user not authorized) solved?

Minor tweak to the wicd setup lines in the startup files. Due to changes in wicd, the toolbar icon has to be launched by"wicd-client -t". I recommend making this the default line the the flux and icewm startup files. Simply having wicd-client will launch the client, but upon closing the client window, the toolbar icon will not persist.

Maybe you should try Chromium instead of Iceweasel?
I have both Chrome and Firefox in Debian and usually when I check, Chrome uses less memory (its performance in this respect is similar to 'light' browsers).
Of course that doesn't discard the possibility that Firefox uses memory just because it's available so that's why it would be useful to test in a low memory system.

I have found a couple of file managers for consideration.
one is 4pane, but I am not sure if it will work as I cannot get past a segfault
Another is sunflowerfm, it is built on python and ram usage is less than or equal to thunar. It seems to work quite nicely with 99-usbstorage.rules for mounting /unmounting devices. Having terminal open up in a tab within the file manager is very handy as well. The project is just begining with a new release every week, and the developers are very willing to accept changes according to the site.

If iceweasel was to be used, simple mail plugin could be added. Then a menu entry / .desktop file could be made to access it as you would with a standard mail client.
