xfe would be ideal as a dual-pane alternative if it used pmount rather than mount to mount/unmount devices.

Fashionable is to use udisks, but from what I gather it doesn't work well on non-'desktop' environments (yet) - but that might just be my experience.

But, spaceFM does have a lot of potential IMO.
Maybe file a wishlist bug against xfe to use udisks if it is detected on the system as well as making use of pmount rather than mount or allow a prompt for the root password to mount a partition if it is not already mounted. I liked xfe as it is pretty light and fast but it does not browse network shares

Noticed no menu entry for advert-block-antix even though it is installed. Am I overlooking something or is this intentional?
Also I can not get the phonebook app to work properly. I don't use it personally but perhaps others need it.
Just get a"$" when I try to add a contact.

Anti, I took the time to replace my Test 2 full installation with a Test 2 base installation, and I can confirm that the issues I was having with the Broadcom wireless firmware do not occur with base, either live or installed, and the firmware works nicely live, which is what I like to see, because sometimes I carry a CD, DVD, or USB stick with an antiX implementation on it, as does Bill Julian and Jim (JP), two of my forum friends whom I've convinced to use antiX. Bill, in particular, travels often, and though he uses a variety of systems now, when he's on the road with a laptop, he almost always runs antiX, either with a stick or by booting it, and he has found wireless access to be as good or better as anything else he has run into.

I'd say the firmware setup you have in base is just right. Everything else works, too. I think this is a very usable setup for someone with just a bit of experience; base lets them install what they want, yet it's not too complicated. Then for the veterans in the crowd, core is perfect. Full, with the firmware issues right now and the other defects that you've been working on, probably needs the most work of the three varieties, but that is expected, since it offers the most. I'd say that very good progress has already been made, and I am excited about all three versions! Keep up the great work and I will keep testing this out and promoting it to my friends.

As time permits, I may write a blog essay HOWTO on setting up a cool environment with BASE, just as I did some time back with CORE. If I get a chance to do that, I will be sure to mention it here. Meanwhile, let's keep it up. Great to see so many others testing. This is sure to be another fantastic release; it's getting there already!

Going to be doing some traveling so thought I would set up an account for wifey so she could use my laptop for e-mail etc.
Tried using the Manage Users script application in antiXcc and I am unable to add a new user. It says the user is added but no directories are created and the logon doesn't work.
Any ideas before i do something radical?
I have dist-upgraded on a daily basis so everything is the latest and greatest.

How about using adduser or useradd? They are available for most systems; we ought to have them; if not, they are available in the Debian repo.

OK...I figured this out.
I previously had my wife set up as a user and then deleted her account prior to remastering.
My installation is a antixsnapshot remaster installed using the cli-installer. Whether this is a factor I can't say.
I was trying to install her user account using the same logon and password and it wouldn't work.
I tried setting up her account using a different logon and everything installed as it should.
Apparently something left over from the deleted account created a conflict.

Is it necessary to do a complete reload to go from one test version to another as I have been doing updates via Synaptic but now get the following key error:

Either I have missed the note about the signature for these public keys, or we do not have them yet. If they ARE available and I have simply glossed over reading the note, would someone be kind enough to reply with a link to the information about establishing these keys for our repositories (or describe how to do it here)? I'd certainly appreciate it; thanks!

EDIT: Answering my own question, I found the answer: Anticapitalista, in a thread a few weeks ago, asked us if we had any repo-related issues. There were responses indicating that the signature for the public keys for the antiX-specific repos were not there. Anti responded with the solution.

He said:
To fix key for antiX repo:

Type: gpg --keyserver subkeys.pgp.net --recv-keys 3465FC9B
Press: enter / return
Type: gpg --armor --export 3465FC9B | apt-key add -
Press: enter / return
Type: apt-get update
Press: enter / return
Install your applications using your package manager or typing apt-get install PACKAGE NAME

That should do it masinick.

However, there seems to be an issue when/if running live/frugal with the repos. Hopefully we can fix them asap.

Thank you for the feedback.

I did do a search of the forum and found the information that masinick provided in the reply above but that did not resolve the issue and thus I posted the errors received. I will look forward to an additional update.

Anti, this site takes care of the slavinko repo. English readers should use the Google translation to see what's needed, but actually the original Slavic site has the correct repo and key information; the Google translation messes that up a bit. You can, however, read it in your language, then go back to the original language to get the correct commands, which, incidentally, are:

Open a terminal, then switch to the root user, then run these commands:

Code: Select all

wget -q http://debs.slavino.sk/repo.asc -O- | apt-key add -

Code: Select all

apt-key add repo.asc

Code: Select all

gpg --recv-keys E9C5D7EF
gpg --export --armor E9C5D7EF | sudo apt-key add -

OK, I received the following error after trying the second step:

gpg: can't open `repo.asc': No such file or directory

But then the 3rd and 4th step did work without any issues.

I then went back to Synaptic and tried to reload but then receive the following:

W: A error occurred during the signature verification. The repository is not updated and the previous index files will be used. GPG error:
========= SCRAPER REMOVED AN EMBEDDED LINK HERE ===========

W: Some index files failed to download. They have been ignored, or old ones used instead.

I apologize if I am doing something incorrectly but I believe I am following the recommended steps.

Thanks again for the assistance.
