Just booted up pendrive on in house Asus Micro desktop. I don't know why in the heck I am having trouble with my EEE 900 though. Especially since I have AntiX 8.5 installed to internal SSD drive and it works great with stock mepis 3.6.32 kernel. I guess I could try on my 701SD and see what happens next.
1. Boots on Acer Aspire One
2. Boots on IBM M57 Desktop
3. Boots on Asus Micro Desktop
4. EEE 900 ? Can't find antix file system
5. EEE 701SD will see next. Edit: Boots up OK. Have to run off of land line as stock Mepis kernel does not support this wireless chip from past experience.

Must be something up with my USB ports on my EEEPC 900 for it to fail. So assuming it is hardware glitch. __{{emoticon}}__

Big Edit: Figured out I think why AntiX persistent would not boot on my 900. I decided to go look into bios under advanced tab and I changed Operating System Option from"Start" to"Finished" Now the USB boots up on my 900. Whew! What is weird. Is that Puppeee boots up fine off of SD card before I changed this. Wireless is working on Wicd using wlan2 in preferences.

Using P200MMX, 64M ram:

-successful install of antiX-M11-core-beta1-486
-cli-installer caused no problems, used a swap previously installed by antiX-8.5-486-update
-using all of a small HD, the partitons were named by cfdisk defaults ie /dev/hda1(root) and /dev/hda2 (swap)
-to mount and use a usb flashdrive, had to add ‘ /dev/sda1 / media vfat noauto,users,relatime 0 0 ' to etc/fstab
-swap is enabled by default this time, time to play.

plvera
-I tried this with both the yes and no choices to partition (ie overwriting a previous install as well as a wiped HD). For me it does work.
Have not tried eg keeping a previous install, and installing core onto a new partition. Is that maybe what you are trying?
Hm, that’s a project to try. Still wondering about differences between cfdisk and gparted. What’s with hda for one and sda for other, are there different headers?

Drg:

I'm glad to hear that you got core install to work. I'm trying to installl it into an existing partition with no luck.

I'm sorry but I don't know the answer to your question. I used gparted to partition this drive and ended up with sda1 through 5.

Touchpad and Wireless work out of the box. So does sound . I have latest java installed on pendrive/ Works to. Just posting to show that AntiX runs good on New Gear (well kinda new) as well as old gear. Gotta shutdown before I get caught. She is a Windows 7 Babe. Though now that I know this pendrive works on her Laptop. I might talk her into trying it out and keeping it.

P. S. I hope I inherit this sucka. __{{emoticon}}__

Hey, I just noted a small but great tweak that's been made. conky is on the right instead of the left. I don't know why this never dawned on me to move it, but I like it much better on the right! Fewer apps cover it up on the right than on the left! nice tweak.

Got a weird issue when I changed wallpaper in Fluxbox. Fluxbox taskbar changed it's display and usage (lost
extra desktop boxes) plus needed to right click to bring up 2 open programs (maximised) one at a time to show on the desktop. Hard to describe for me so including picture. This is a downloaded picture from National
Geographic and I downloaded to /demo/wallpapers. Don't know if using that directory instead of /aufs/usr/share/wallpaper in feh makes a difference. Notice how fluxbox taskbar has changed. I can bring it/default fluxbox taskbar back by logging out and relogging in. The wallpaper from /demo/wallpaper won't stick and the wind wall paper that I was using previously will show with a good taskbar. Hope I explained this coherently (it's late here) __{{emoticon}}__

Edit: Scratch

I just relogged in and out again and now I got

which did not happen on previous logout and login. Like I said. weird.

I finally got M11 (full) installed in this laptop. I thought I had a bad burn since I was not able to get it to boot up to X. It would always just end up in a cli log on. Then I realized that noxorg was in the grub boot command, so I deleted that opton and it booted up fine. Did I miss something somewhere? Is it supposed to be noxorg as default?

After that I had problems with wireless (the dreaded broadcom chip), but I connected with ethernet, used synaptic to install the b43-firmware package and then ceni worked beautifully.

I'll play around with and report back. Here are the specs on the laptop:

pedro, you shouldn't have had to install any broadcom firmware as the following is already installed.

firmware-b43-lpphy-installer
firmware-b43legacy-installer
firmware-bnx2
firmware-bnx2x

Hi Anti:
I noticed that the firmware-b43-installer was good for my chip (BCM4306) so I installed it with synaptic and it decided on its own to uninstall the lpphy-installer (which is good for BCM4312; according to synaptic blurb). After that, ceni was able to scan and pick up my network which it wasn't doing before.

Don't really have any other explanation.

Thanks.

Hmm, maybe the firmware-b43-lpphy-installer and firmware-b43legacy-installer conflict with each other and only one should be installed.

Anti,
I like the way that M11 sets the wallpaper using feh, but I would agree with ICE-M on this.
ICE-M wrote:preliminary testing done on an antix full liveusb:
4. the wallpaper app it's nice, but i find it a little difficult when it comes to knowing what wallpaper to choose, i saw the view option but i prefer nitrogen. thanks for keeping the settings for nitrogen in the start-up files. it makes the job easier to reinstall it.
But with the benefits of the way feh sets the background, ( no flashing transitions, quicker, lasting, ... ) I thought I would try something different. I tried making something with zenity but I do not think it is much better, thought i would post what I have.

I haven't downloaded the latest iso yet - I'm planning on doing that today. In the meantime, here are two commands for using feh to set the background:

Code: Select all

feh -g 640x480 -d -S filename ~/Wallpaper/
feh -t ~/Wallpaper/ --thumb-height 120 --thumb-width 120 -S width -n -d --cache-thumbnails
The first one opens feh in a window and you can browse through your collection using the cursor keys. The second option opens a windows with thumbnail previews.

Thanks, OU812, That's pretty neat. I'm beginning to appreciate anti's choice of feh the more I use it.

Good install with the noxorg option, on a P4, 3.2GHz, 1G ram.
But...... same type of problem with logout from gui, slim won't come back.

Got a sort of workaround with installing xdm (X Display Manager). It allows logout and comes back to the gui, and can login as eg a different user if I like, but I do not know how to get a choice of window managers eg fluxbox/icewm/rox etc. This is a different kind of beast compared to slim or gdm3, for sure, and I don't understand it much. Just to mention.
