antiX-17-b1-full available for public testing
This is our first public beta of antiX-17 full version built on the recently released Debian Stretch base.
Some quick information. (Note full version no longer fits on a cd - it is c.808MB)
* Based on Debian Stretch, but without systemd nor systemd-shim.
* Customised 4.10.5 kernel with fbcondecor splash
* libreoffice 5.2.7-1
* firefox-esr 52.2.0
* claws-mail 3.14.1-3+b1
* xmms -for audio
* gnome-mpv - for playing video
* smtube 17.1.0 - play youtube videos without a using a browser
* streamlight-antix - stream videos with very low RAM usage
* eudev
We have also included some applications built by the MX team and ported them to this version of antiX.
* packageinstaller replaces metapackage-installer
* bootrepair
* ddm-mx to set up Nvidia driver
* codecs to easily install restricted codecs
* broadcom manager for network troubleshooting
New applications
* Lxkeymap to change session keyboard layout
* Fskbsetting to set installed system keymaps
Some new and improved cli apps - please test.
* cli-aptiX - synaptic for the command line ((WIP)
* antiX-cli-cc - cli control centre - have fun watching videos, playing audio without any need for Xorg (WIP)
* live-usb-maker now with encryption option
Known issues:
* spotify does not install in packageinstaller (others?)
* live boot - internet works ok with ethernet ootb, but does not work after installed. Use ceni to set it up again - make sure you use auto option.
* conky blurs when switching themes in IceWM

I tested antiX-17-b1 and encountered the bug.
"jp106" is included in the keyboard item of the installer.
It is set to /etc/default/keyboard, but it does not work. This is always the English keyboard. (Lower right icon)
This item is correctly"jp". Currently"106" additions are not necessary.
Perhaps this may have been affected by MX recently...

, I had to write https. Network was up already, it seemed to me.
* apt-antiX is nice! But the name with capital X is an arguable choice. I'm not sure if Synaptic workflow is the best choice for CLI, but people are used to that workflow, so it is a sensible choice. Anyway a great step forward compared to the buggy aptitude, IMHO. I was able to install allt the suggested apps with this tool.
* antiX-cli-cc is also very cool. I would say that with it antiX fulfills its mission to be a user friendly distro for legacy computers. The menu entries work fine, but I haven't tested any in Live System Centre.
* The installer was able to install on a btrfs partition, but the window disappered at about 20% and now minstall is runnig in the background as seen in htop. All files seem presen on /mnt/antiX.
* I launched the installer a second time and now it completed the install on btrfs successfully.
* On the installed system I'm getting
* The name cli-aptiX is so"crazy" that I memorized it wrong with apt-antiX.
* mpsyt is two times in antiX-cli-cc
* fbgs gives this
*fbi gives this
* smxi in antix-cli-cc should ask for a password and not simply tell that you are not root.
* console-font-select and console-width-select seem not to apply the changes.
* all the rest in antix-cli-cc seems to work. Great job!!
Wow! I'm looking forward to testing these CLI apps!anticapitalista wrote: Some new and improved cli apps - please test.

Took some time to boot up, but the old girl did it.

Installed to the Dell Latitude D630 and it boots a lot faster.
Got the Broadcom drivers right and did not have to mess with them Thank you!

At bootmenu F4 I had chosen noautomount... then visited ControlPanel -- } Configure Automounting to turn it on.
After enablling, a looooong delay... then the dialog redisplayed, with"FALSEdvd_command" in the entrybox

With"Arc" and"Arc Dark" (name, it's not REALLY dark) I get"grainy text, like reading from a carbon copy", as seen in the screenshot.
This occurs regardless which font is selected.
This does not occur when any of the pre-installed themes, other than those 2, are selected.
Even the actual dark-colored Arc theme is nice and crisp, so I'm stumped.

maybe considered desirable?
Connectshares and"Configure Connectshares" appear in both ControlPanel and desktop menu.

rehashing a few previously-mentioned and/or suggested details:
cp --} hardware --} set font size
"SET FONT SCALING" is a more appropriate label
synaptic config:
suggest [x]"Show package properties in the main window"
(previously mentioned to BitJam, via email)
"general-remaster-exclude.list" and"static-root-delete.list" et al
mention"The original list is available in general-remaster-exclude.orig"
but no such *.orig files are currently provided.
spacefm: root's editor is set to"libreoffice --writer %U"
(same for regular user)
(same for default *.txt file handler)
doesn't fit the spirit of"lean n mean", and the 5-6 seconds waiting for LOwriter to load is an annoyance
edited to add:
pre-configuring a different default GTK theme for"root" would provide an important visual cue in case an app is launched with sudo permission

Even when docs are linked elsewhere, a welcome tweak would be to embed a comment line (or 3)
atop the conkyrc file, providing a copypasta urlstring to the docs.
-=-
In select other config files, a header comment might callout the link to a relevant tutorial video

Several of the pre-configured global (wm"keys" file) Ctrl+singlekey keybinds conflict with those
expected/documented for use within specific applications.
2 quick examples:
Within firefox, Ctrl+F5 is"supposed to mean" refresh
Within spacefm, Ctrl+t is"supposed to mean" open a new tab.
