Those who have antiX-16-b1 iso files can patch it to b2.1 by downloading the patch and using xdelta3.

Does it actualy do this?
Particularly on new monitors or new laptops.

setting the dpi (with dpi= cheat) did not work in virtualbox. will try on live hardware in a bit.
***edit***
using -dpi 140 in slim.conf xserver arguements line gives me this in virtualbox:
Code: Select all
xdpyinfo |grep -B 2 resolution
screen #0:
dimensions: 1600x798 pixels (423x211 millimeters)
resolution: 96x96 dots per inch

desktop-session configuration
1. ~/.desktop-session/startup does not exist by default. This file needs to be precreated, contain the #!/bin/bash shebang, and be executable already. As it stands, the file is created by the user, and its not set executable by default. This leads to much confusion, as the global dekstop-session/startup file is not processed if the user version exists. and since this file is not created executable, no startup files are processed.
2. if two sets of desktop-session files are to continue to be provided, then BOTH sets need to be processed (all files ideally, but especially startup), not just either/or. My preference would be for the global set to be eliminated in favor of only using the user set, where session settings truly belong.

metapackage-installer
1. firefox working fine and doens't even remove iceweasel. they coexist.
2. libreoffice-5 - works, consider removing the"-y" from the bm file, so the user can back out if necessary. There is some kind of problem if you have additional language packs installed (I test with catalan-LO-main from the metapackage-installer).
***edit*** apparently I was just running out of disk space. The libreoffice 5 install goes thru OK, but language packs are not updated.

Problem booting from USB
On 16-b1 the following worked as expected and produced a bootable anntiX usb stick
Burn ISO to CD
Boot using CD
Format USB stick partition as ext4
Install from booted CD to USB via unetbootin
Boot from USB works as expected
Doing exactly the same on the same hardware and usb stick with 16-b2 fails to boot with the following error message

ie: libreoffice 5 in metapackage installer
adding
$(dpkg-query -l libreoffice-help* | grep ii | cut -d ' ' -f 3) $(dpkg-query -l libreoffice-l10n* | grep ii | cut -d ' ' -f 3)
will bring in the language and help packs, as long as only one set is installed. metapackage-installer doens't seem to like lists of packages from commands, so you need a dpkg-query for each additional package.

Re: Problem booting from USB
Test environment
Booted live using CD
Boot command
As an additional test the USB was recreated as 16-b1 using the previously described successful method.
This time it failed with identical symptoms reported for 16-b2.1.
Reformatting as ext4 removes all the"normal" dirs and files but wherever the bootloader puts it boot stuff is not removed. Each time a reinstallation is tried, when the bootloader is being installed (at the end of the installation routine) unetbootin asks whether to overwrite the existing ones. The option to overwrite was always selected.
Whatever permutations of release are tried, 16-b1 or 16-b2.1 (all using unetbootin) the results are now consistent. The stick begins to boot OK and continues until it fails to mount /live/boot-dev/antiX/linuxfs as a squashfs filesystem.
The stick can be written to e.g. copy a file to it. That fails as an unprivileged user but works as root.
Something has screwed the USB for both 16-b1 (which worked OK originally) and 16-b2.1
Edit
Any suggestion how to restore the capability to boot 16-b1?
