Full versions are available for both 32 and 64 bit processors. Both iso files fit on a cd.

Those who have antiX-16-a1_386-full can patch it to b1 by downloading the patch and using xdelta3.

====================================

Quite a few changes to a1. Here is a full description.

* Installer should be prettier to look at without losing its functionality. This is a work in progress.

* Many changes when running antiX live

We make use of the LiveUSB to save information even if home or root
persistence are not enabled. The goal is to make the LiveUSB more
convenient without sacrificing user control. Such saved
information includes:

1) LiveUSB-Storage Feature
2) SaveState Feature
3) BIOS Bootloader"F8 Save" --> save
4) UEFI Bootloader"Customize (with text menus)"
5) Sticky boot options

* LiveUSB-Storage Feature
-----------------------
LiveUSB-Storage directories are created for the root user and the
demo users. This gives you easy, direct
access to store files on the LiveUSB without having to enable
persistence. The only size limitation is the size of the LiveUSB
partition You can disable this with the"nostore" cheat.

* SaveState Feature
-----------------
The savestate feature saves a few files across reboots. For example
files for wicd are saved so the system will remember your wireless
networks and passwords. You control which files get saved by
editing the list in /live/antiX/state/general-state-files and
/live/antiX/state/machine-state-files. The general files are saved
and restored across machines while the machine files are saved and
restored for each machine so each machine can have its own copy.

* Sticky LiveUSB boot options
---------------------------
In addition, several options automatically become"sticky" (remembered
across reboots) even if persistence is not enabled. There are:

automount Automatically mount partitions when plugged-in***
mount=usb Mount all USB partitions at boot-time***
mount=all Mount ALL partitions at boot-time***
desktop=xxxxx Saves the last desktop you selected***
savestate Enables saving state files
nosavestate Disable saving state files
nostore Disable the LiveUSB-Storage feature
dostore Enable the LiveUSB-Storage feature

For example, if you don't want the LiveUSB-Storage feature enabled
then you just need to select"nostore" once from the"F4 Options"
menu. The feature will stay disabled until you use the"dostore"
boot option.

* F4 Options --> automount should work now
----------------------------------------
File systems that use FUSE (ntfs-3g and exfat) will still need to be
mounted manually. Even FUSE file systems will get mounted at
boot-time with"mount=usb" and"mount=all" boot options.

* The Live UEFI bootloader has been improved
------------------------------------------
There is now a Save option when you select"Customize boot (text
menus)". It works like the F8 Save menu in the BIOS bootloader. If
a Windows UEFI bootloader is detected in the first partition of the
first hard drive then we offer an option to chain load to windows.
Various console resolutions are available in the bootloader menu.
You can also adjust the resolution manually when you edit an entry.

* The nosysv=xxx option has been renamed to disable=xxx
-----------------------------------------------------
(although"nosysv" should still work). The services that are
disabled are no longer printed to the screen, instead they are
listed in the file etc/live/config/disabled.

* The live boot is less chatty with fewer bogus errors and warnings
-----------------------------------------------------------------
You can make the startup even more terse by using the"verb=4" cheat.
This may not be fully compatible with some of the advanced LiveUSB
options.

* The default retry time has increased from 10 to 15 seconds
----------------------------------------------------------
This is how long we look for the linuxfs file before giving up. If
you use the"failsafe" option then it is set to 30 seconds. The
default retry time for finding a frugal or persistence partition is
still 10 seconds. You can adjust all of these times with"try=xx".

I dropped it on to a partition of Lenove G50 see below:
It hangs for about a minute after the line|:

Sound works fine. Wireless usb listed in inxi connected through wicd. wicd picked up wlan0 automagically. wpa2 encryption works also
Test being done to move on to my Panasonic CF-48 using my PLOP cd with this usb drive.
Tested Gaurdians of the Galaxy on file.
Plays the video fine and dandy off of /media/_misc/Antix/Videos/gaurdians.of_the_galaxy.mkv >with sound.

I am not a uefi or persistent usb tester. I'll leave that to others.

* Space-IceWM loads with no icons on desktop

* IceWM"start" button on task bar is Debian default rather than button sent in Clearview theme. It is not in keeping with the rest of the theme.

* Alsamixer does not allow adjustment of channels, all stay at zero.
alsamixer channels not adjustable
alsamixer channels not adjustable

* The task bar icon for volumeicon is almost invisible.

* Control Centre-->Edit IceWM Settings opens Geany with thext edit area of white text on a black background, rather than the more conventional black text on a white background which is the default for Geany.

* Vifm is superfluous as we already ship 3 good file managers.

* Vim tiny is a coders editor and is not a good fit in a generalist distro particularly when we ship at least 2 console a 2 gui editors all of which are competent and have a much lower learning curve. Vi, vim and friends should be left out and be installed become apps which the small number of interested users elect to install.

* 1-to-1 Assistance and 1-to-1 Voice are good candidates for inclusion in metapackage-installer.

* Good to see the legacy kenel in metapackage-installer. (Not yet tested).

* Connectshares inbuilt editor is now easier to read.

* Good to see vesa use 16bit colour in xorg.conf to maximize number of available screen resolutions.

* wired networking OK

* When needing escalated privileges it might be helpful inform the user which password to input.

During Installation
* The output from smartmon tool warns about the disk that"...it will have a higher than average failure rate in the upcoming year". Because antiX is often used on older kit this is to be expected. The message does not really supply any useful information and could be ditched. Alternatively, amend and"soften" the message to indicate that it is advising of a risk rather than a certainty. I have used old disks extensively over many years and have experienced few failures.

* As reported previously, when installing the user name no longer accepts a combination of uppercase and lowercase letters in the way that previous versions of antiX permitted. This uneccessary restriction is problrmatical for sites where mixed case names have been in use for some years.

Post Installation
* Pre-installation changes to the desktop carried over to the installed version except Conky which displayed on the desktop although switched off before installation.

* On the installed Space-IceWM desktop, an icon named"Installer" is present.

* Because Connectshares is shipped with the distro, a commented entry in the startup file will be a good addition towards helping users. It was present in 13.2 but was missed in 15.

* Via antixCC, placing the lines
# Uncomment the following line to mount Samba and/or NFS shares
connectshares &
in the startup file does not mount the configured shares at start up. The problem lies in a malformed command which precedes it, for volumeicon. It is missing an apersand (&) to run the command in the background. Because this is the first command in the file it effectively prevents any other commands in the file from being run.

I will be trying tonight on all -intel hardware, but I also had sound card trouble with HDA Intel emulation in virtualbox (other sound emulation worked OK). Will advise of differences later tonight.

volume/mute keys work once enabled in volumeicon preferences (I changed volumeicon theme to Gnome Black as well).

brightness keys do not work (they do in mx-15). However, xbacklight does work (thanks for including by default). xbacklight -set 70 sets the backlight to 70%.

with 4.4 kernel, boot hangs at /dev, possibly hung up looking for a bluetooth device.

with 4.3 antix kernel, boot sails past very very fast. no hang up at /dev.

alsamixer shows all channels, volume works OOTB with youtube, etc...

broadcom wireless works OOTB with the wl driver. (nice since this laptop doesn't have an ethernet port)

icewm detected correctly by inxi.

FYI, liveUSB/antix2usb on MX-15 did not create the efi folder for UEFI boots. Unetbootin did. I tried antix2usb 3 times to make sure I hadn't selected something wrong.

$ sudo fdisk -l

Hum, as a live system user at other places I like the features to be tested __{{emoticon}}__ Only tested in Qemu atm: works fine; only the fonts seem more blurred than on v15.
Made a torrent with screens; should be available on linuxtracker.org (and freeostorrent.fr) tomorrow morning.

EDIT:
========= SCRAPER REMOVED AN EMBEDDED LINK HERE ===========
url was:"http://linuxtracker.org/index.php?page=torrent-details&id=8edfd0bd0d29a9a3351e9030383cc85cd1b6eb55"
linktext was:"antiX 16b1 i386 full"
====================================
seeding at a decent speed for these wanting to add a source to the sourceforge.
Note: links to antiX original md5 and sig files are in the descr.

gdebi .deb app installer

gdebi has been omitted. This is an unwelcome, retrograde step. gdebi is far more useful to the antix populace than vi/vim/vifm and associated apps, that are used by a vanishingly small number of antiX users.

Suggest using the space for gdebi is (re)adopted to restore the balance of usefulness and friendliness in favour of the majority of users.

Re: gdebi

Installing single debs (from where?) via gdebi is IMO not something that should be done by inexperienced users.
There are far too many cases of users (not just in antiX) thinking that they can download any deb from anywhere on the net and install it via gdebi. Shipping gdebi is, again IMO, just 'encouraging' users to follow such bad practice. I see no need for it.

Unless I am given very good reasons for keeping it on antiX, gdebi will be omitted.

Other feedback is being worked on. Thanks all!

ie: gdebi - at the mx forums, we have seen multiple instances of gdebi breaking as well, for no apparent reason. all other apt based tools and dpkg continue to work, but gdebi complains of a broken apt system. Even experienced long time users are running into this issue (including me).

however, when gdebi works, it is very nice for installing debs from third parties that have dependencies in the existing debian/antix/mx repo. gdebi resolves the dependencies automatically, where dpkg does not. I can't name one off the top of my head that I install, except for brother printer drivers. and it has a nice dependency check built into the gui if you use the gui version.

Fair point, although I am unconvinced by idea that a distro can somehow protect users from themselves by leaving out a freely installable app.

If a user faces a problem they often see it in terms of an impediment to being able to do what they want to do. If they are sufficiently motivated to search the net for an answer, and find others are able to do the blocked task, they will try to replicate the process to unblock it. If the fix includes the use of gdebi, the user will simply install it. They are most unlikely to be deterred by gdebi not being installed. It is much more likely to be seen in the terms of a failure of the distro to provide a widely used and common tool.

It is not an effective defense against misuse to leave it out.

If breakage is the criterion for omission, antiX would not offer the testing repo, nor apps such as SMTube or Streamlight, which can be broken at a whim by Youtube.

A distro cannot prevent a user from misusing an app nor can it always predict when the app will break. Neither seem sufficient reason to leave out an app which has long been available in antiX with few reports (with fallible recall) of problems linked to its use.

I prefer AntiX just the way it comes.
I only add my bookmarks and maybe uBlock and it works beautifully.
Just my 2 cents!
