antiX-16b1 only partially working OOTB
inxi -Fxz -c0
Audio working
Wired networking not working OOTB. Works after set up via Ceni or WICD.
Conky does not display network monitors after network set up
Mouse invisible at start up

Calculator
Calculator seems to be in an odd location in the menu within Education.
A more obvious location is Accessories.
As it one of our creation, changing the location should be easy.
Additionally the .desktop file is probably better located in .../applications/antix/

qpdfview
qpdfview seems quite heavy at approx 22MiB RAM when not showing a pdf document, compared to e.g. epdfviewer which weighs in at approx 6MiB when not showing a pdf document. Reported by ps_mem.py. Being lightweight and nimble is not only a matter of the resources used by antiX in a quiescent state once booted, but also using lightweight apps during a session.

Meta Package Installer
Is this primarily aimed at use within antiX-Full or antiX-Full+antiX-Base?
Currently it seems a bit of an odd mishmash.

evince-gtk pulls in lots of dependencies but does seem to be lighter than qpdfview.
epdfview is not in debian/jessie (or any later versions of debian) There is no epdfviewer at all in debian.SamK wrote:qpdfview

samk's network monitors don't appear with wireless connection because his wireless shows up as eth0.
same for wicd (assumes wlan0 in preferences).
edit...
looking at conky, samK's wireless at eth0 should show up in conky once connected. but his wired network (eth1) never will.

Re: qpdfview
Perhaps I was not as clear as I intended. I used that package as an example because IIRC it was installed in 13.2. I did not mean we should include it, I was trying to make a wider point about keeping the apps lightweight when there is one which is acceptable.anticapitalista wrote:epdfview is not in debian/jessie (or any later versions of debian) There is no epdfviewer at all in debian.

If you want to make it less chatty, echoing out"saving system state" seems OK to me.
Does NOT show on the family media pc when booting live UEFI. (64 bit iso) (inxi below). (esp on /dev/sda2)
DOES show on the lenovo s21e (esp on /dev/mmcblk0p1). the entry DOES work.
inxi for family pc
On the system I tested with, the only thing savestate grapped was asound state. That said, I don't mind the output of those messages at all. IIRC, there will also be output for etc/network/interfaces and wicd configs.anticapitalista wrote:Request to test out the following.
1. Test save_state on fat32 usb stick running live.
Just make a fat32 liveUSB. Use"db+" cheat so you can catch error
messages on shutdown. See if there are extraneous error messages
associated with saving state at shutdown or start up. Boot it
twice to be sure. Some may only show up on first or second boot.
Should savestate be less chatty by default?

2. Test UEFI chainload to Windows
If you boot Live via UEFI, does the"Windows" boot entry show
up? If so, does it work?

The fix is to include the following between the eth0 and wlan0 sections in ~/.conkyrc.dolphin_oracle wrote:looking at conky, samK's wireless at eth0 should show up in conky once connected. but his wired network (eth1) never will.
Code: Select all
${if_up eth1}${color}eth1 up: $alignr${color3} ${upspeed eth1}

The only thing I'd really love to see us configure automatically are the settings for our various wireless interface front ends. The configuration tools gather the necessary information. It'd be really nice to insert that gathered information into the configuration of each interface tool - but that's a"wish list" item on my part.
Add me to the"camp" that generally prefers modest resource use. We have a reasonable blend between simplicity, ease of extending, maybe not optimal for the absolute novice, but that's not really our top focus group - those that need efficient resource utilization probably are on the top of the priority list - is that a reasonable assumption? What we have now is very reasonable, and works quite well. The more we add, the more difficult it becomes to make every piece work correctly.darry1966 wrote:Too true Roky - love the installer.rokytnji wrote:
My opinion is we strike a comfy balance between a cfdisk cli installer and a vaudeville showy installer.
I expect others to disagree. But the less resources the installer uses. The more resources go to the actual install process.

SiS Video Driver Discrepancy
Running live the SiS video driver is used and a good resolution obtained
Conventional installation to disk uses fbdev and a very poor resolution is obtained that cannot be changed via arandr

samK, do either the live or installed on the sis graphics system have a etc/X11/xorg.conf file, and if so, please post.

SamK - the new installer should fix this. The present one removes any xorg.conf that was set up during live use.
Could you test running live, before installing, add dev to the antix.list
run apt-get update and apt-get dist-upgrade (or simply use synaptic to install the latest antix-installer).
Then see if sis graphics is working on new install.
Thanks
