roky - re grub2

I *think* you might need to completely reformat your drive. I had this happen in VBox and I had to rdelete the existing drives and set them up again.

I am having the same problems as roky with RD 32 bit, using my MSI S6000 Intel i540-450M laptop. I'm keeping this message simple since the problems are almost identical.

Made my live iso. I need to edit this post using my other Desktop Computer to give you a md5sum for the iso at sourceforge.
There are all kinds of md5sum numbers posted on the net and it was confusing me because one my cdrw disks kept failing.
But I finally got it done.

Anyhows. Gparted keeps crashing after a install. I will try upgrading it. My other /dev/sdb hard drive with AntiX 11 backup files is not
showing in /media in rox or side bar on spacefm. /etc/fstab after install was practically empty. Here is my backup of it.

Code: Select all

fstabbk# Pluggable devices are handled by uDev, they are not in fstab
UUID=50d6af4b-c241-4639-b075-d59149dc773f / auto defaults,noatime 1 1
proc /proc proc defaults 0 0
devpts /dev/pts devpts mode=0622 0 0
UUID=bab99903-8063-4e7b-a371-7e129ad3c7a2 /home auto defaults,noatime 1 2
blkid shows

Code: Select all

biker@biker:~
$ su
Password:
#blkid
/dev/sda1: UUID="50d6af4b-c241-4639-b075-d59149dc773f" TYPE="ext4"
/dev/sda2: UUID="a55f5477-b77d-4e07-b34a-d0260ad85959" TYPE="swap"
/dev/sda3: UUID="bab99903-8063-4e7b-a371-7e129ad3c7a2" TYPE="ext4"
/dev/sda4: LABEL="/data" UUID="284c1657-3c0b-484c-ad41-a90908a993fd" TYPE="ext4"
/dev/sdb1: LABEL="/data" UUID="b3b59257-818b-457d-b44a-9bc6632c050e" TYPE="ext4"
I guess"sux" is no more because I tried to install it after a"apt-get update"
I guess next step is try and fix gparted and edit this post to show grub-repair md5sum for iso.

Code: Select all

4c55898bf0467ed1b2165854047c7ffb  boot-repair-disk-32bit.iso

rok, spacefm by default doesn't show internal partitions (I have no idea why that's the default). Go up to the menu bar, and Devices>Settings>Show>Internal Drives)

rok, you've definitely got some weird stuff going on. I haven't installed anywhere except in VB so far.
It gets better. Gparted segfaults after a gparted reinstall. No newer version than

Code: Select all

$ apt-cache policy gparted
gparted:
  Installed: 0.19.0-1+b1
  Candidate: 0.19.0-1+b1
  Version table:

        100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
You are gonna love this next

Code: Select all

biker@biker:~

I rebooted after restoring original above. My edit was just for /dev/sdb1 but my edit never worked anyways.
Slitaz mountbox mounts OK. But nothing shows in /media/sdb folder I hand made.
Here is what spacefm does after a reboot.

Nothing freaking mounts so far as user.

More fun and games. Slitaz Mountbox does not work

in spacefm, you have to mount internal drives as root, by default. there are some configuration options you can do to make this easier, but by default its root. unless you make an fstab entry for the partition that allows a user to mount a partition. Right click on your partition, select root then mount. say ok when you get an option screen.

Not a fluke... apt-get has the ability to add a hook script into the apt sequence of events.
/ etc/apt/apt.conf.d/
where as far as I know dpkg does not have a hook system (other than modifying the deb). If you know of how to hook in the script from apt update to dpkg please let me know. __{{emoticon}}__
you can replace /usr/bin/update-menus with a symlink called"update-menus" linking to a script that calls"desktop-menu-apt-update check". This works for apt, dpkg, gdebi, and any deb that has a trigger for menu updating (most I would think, but I don't know).

***edit*** although I think I'm missing something because while the menu does get updated, every app on the system ends up with an entry in"other" and"preferences" which obviously isn't right. but the general method might be something to consider, I'm sure I've just got the call to desktop-menu-apt-update wrong somehow, because the same thing happens if I run that app directly from the cli. I'm no coder __{{emoticon}}__

Ok. Enough of the negative crap. What does work.
Wallpaper Changer put my biker chic wallpaper up>>>>I feel better than the black one.
Switch Desktop to Icewm without icons>>>>>I like spacefm opening instead of rox from menu and toolbar
.mkv..mp4,.avi, movies open and play OK in mplayer2
mocp plays my streaming .pls files OK and .mp3 also.
xmms does the same >>>>Feels better with my custom skin.

I feel better now that I have some music and pleasent scenery to test by.

Testing request
Please test changing the window manager via the desktop menu:"Desktop" -->"Alternative Desktops". Have a bunch of different windows open when you make the switch. Try having some on different workspaces. See if they all survive the switch. See if the switch looks glitchy.

If there are any problems, please edit the file /etc/desktop-session/desktop-session.conf and change the line:

Code: Select all

STARTUP_DELAY="1"
Set the delay to 2 or even 3. This will cause the switch to take longer. See if this fixes the problem.

On my 1 gig of ram and P4 there seems to be no glitches on switch desktop Bitjam. I have all 4 virtual desktops loaded with something open.
Music playing in Xmms. Browser open. Htop in terminal. Spacefm. Conky.

No problemo so far.

Thanks!

On installed systems, you can fix booting into runlevel-3 by removing the symlink /etc/rc2.d/S01slim. Use the boot parameter"3" to boot into command line mode. Without the"3" it should boot into X as usual.

live 32-bit full initV

boot menu screen lacks a"choose default desktop" (flux+spacefm,rox,etc) setting

boot menu"resolution" setting: I'm not convinced it"sticks" (will retest).
(edit: retested. Confirmed it does not stick. It reverts to 800x600)
After"save" then reboot and choose"custom" bootmenu entry, seems like the 1280x1024 I had chosen wound up reverting to 800x600
Hmm, ran into the same quirk with the alpha2 build: post36229.html?hilit=init#p36229

Could not launch synaptic. Silent fail from within desktop; from terminal I see"XORG blahblah (not set? not defined?) ...environment" error message
(edit: retested. Weird/different problems ensued. I described 'em in my later post to this thread)

"shutdown" command button within the desktop environment exits to command shell but does not shutdown.(will retest)
Seems like the same"to shutdown, must first preform shell login as root" scenario from the alpha2 build.
(edit: not confirmed. So far, this problem has not been consistently repeatable.)
liveUSB w/ persistance. persist-save runs twice at reboot. this jams up the shutdown procedure as there is a dialog waiting for an answer in X after antiX switches to console
Through the months, I've mentioned a similar issue a couple times.
If I want to boot to runlevel 3, make changes then update the persistence file from cli, and reboot... cannot do so.
Attempting persist-save from cli yields an error message reports"another instance of persist-save is already running".
(Confusing, considering that persist-save from the desktop works as intended.)

IIRC, I had checked ps or htop and, no,"another instance of persist-save" wasn't running...
...grepped"already running" b/c I didn't find that directly in the persist-save script. Finally, wound up suspecting the issue
wasn't"directly fixable" b/c it's due to something launched/written from within the initramfs.
Guessing the answer is hiding in here (idunno whether this is still current):

edit: after re-downloaded the isos (antiX-14-a3-RV_386-full.iso and antiX-14-a3-RV_386-core-libre.iso), re-installing to pendrives, shutdown worked perfectly.
Tonight, for the first time EVER, at shutdown I saw the"picture frame" antix border around the console.
