antiX-full Edelweißpiraten 26 May 2012
Original install to HDD using K6-266/128ram, and the HDD then swapped around from machine to machine.
Upgraded to antiX kernel 3.4.1, which does boot OK on P200MMX and K6.
antixControlCenter will not open on P200MMX/64Mram and K6-266/128Mram.
In roxterm, command $ antixcc.sh gives a hint:
/usr/local/bin/antixcc.sh: line 478: 1931 Illegal instruction gtkdialog --program=ControlCenter
The number above"1931" varies if I retry the antxcc.sh command. Same as regularuser or root.
This works OK on Celeron (a PII type)/64Mram, Athlon/1200MHz and P4/higher specs.
Have tried systemd per instructions on these. Can’t tell a difference.

Thanks drg.
Not sure what is causing antiXcc to not open. Maybe the latest gtkdialog (I included the latest)? Though that would affect all antiX apps that use gtkdialog. Could you try the add-key app? (Or any other antiX app that uses gtkdialog)

On K6-266/128M ram, cannot open some items. Works OK on Celeron, Athlon and P4 with same HDD.
Hmm, was using rox-icewm as regularuser; also noticed conky indicated CPU usage was up in the 92-98% range and stayed there often, but cannot be more specific about this, just a hint or guess that this CPU was hung up on some unfinished business somewhere along the way.
From the icons at the bottom tray cannot open
-Control Center, Exit
From the menu/applications/other cannot open
-add-key, antixCC, antix-mountbox, RemasterCC
Another hmmm. So no mountbox, but spacefm mounted and opened a USB thumbdrive OK. And for shutdown, it’s my habit to use the halt command as root from the console, esp. with slower computers.
Looked for items that require/use gtkdialog, found 12 to try out. From roxterm:
$ antixcc.sh
/usr/local/bin/antixcc.sh: line 478: 6535 Illegal instruction gtkdialog --program=ControlCenter
$ add-start
IceWM: using /home/drg/.icewm for private configuration files
IceWM: A window manager is already running, use --replace to replace it
$ antixcckeyboard.sh
/usr/local/bin/antixcckeyboard.sh: line 79: 3549 Illegal instruction gtkdialog --program=keyconfig
# mountbox
Illegal instruction
$ phonebookantix.sh
/usr/local/bin/phonebookantix.sh: line 81: 4807 Illegal instruction gtkdialog --program=Phonebook
$ exitantix.sh
/usr/local/bin/exitantix.sh: line 86: 7285 Illegal instruction gtkdialog -c --program=Logout
These commands give no response within roxterm, except a new prompt line:
- adddesktop.sh (but for this one as regularuser, a gui request for root password opens, still does not work; same with as root)
- add-key
- antixccmouse.sh
- antix-system.sh

Followup note:
Tried out antix-base 25 April 2012 on K6-266/128M ram, using different HDD.
Note this is the testing version before the current one. T3, I think.
-With antix kernels 3.3.3 and with 3.3.5, tried both
-Rox-fluxbox, etc, no icewm ( prob. not relevant)
-Gtkdialog version as installed is 2:0.7.20-4.
-CPU is working away at 90% plus from start. ‘Tis a slow box, right.
-no problem accessing antixCC

Note this is the testing version before the current one. T3, I think.
-With antix kernels 3.3.3 and with 3.3.5, tried both
-Rox-fluxbox, etc, no icewm ( prob. not relevant)
-Gtkdialog version as installed is 2:0.7.20-4.
-CPU is working away at 90% plus from start. ‘Tis a slow box, right.
-no problem accessing antixCC

Just wanted to add that I have been testing antiX-base M12.0 on two different systems: my main system, a 17" Gateway 2000 Series Model PA6A portable. That one happens to have the Broadcom 4311 wireless network card, and a recently acquired old Dell Dimension 3000 desktop, circa 2004. I also have antiX core on both the Gateway mentioned above and a Lenovo 3000 Series Y410 laptop. I've exercised all of the 3.3 and 3.4 kernels on both antiX core instances, and also on the antiX-base setup on the Gateway, though I have not checked the 3.4.1 kernel on the Dell 3000 desktop, but I have been performing package updates.
On all three hardware platforms, Dell, Gateway, and Lenovo, the software has been flawless. The only issue I have run into during testing is that WAY BACK, when we first started testing, I had a problem that I brought up at the time with anti concerning extra Broadcom wireless drivers that were causing problems for me - but ONLY with antiX-full. The recommendation I had was to include the Debian b43 and b43legacy wireless firmware drivers, but nothing else (specifically NOT the Broadcom STA driver).
That's been the only issue that has affected me during testing; all else has been great. The Pre Final version, which I've installed the Base implementation on two systems, has been flawless.

drg, using the latest antiX test version, the one with issues with antiXcc etc, download this version of gtkdialog and see if antiX apps work.

I downloaded antix-base-486.iso for testing and today tried to load it on an ancient Compaq Presario 1692: K6-II 433 Mhz 192M ram. The gui installer didn't complete so I tried the cli-installer. It completed and I was able to boot up to the desktop. I need to edit grub to put in vga=788. This machine is pretty pathetic and running iceweasel pretty well loads it up...glacial response. I am writing from my usual desktop because it is so slow.
antixcc seems not to work...guess that is old news...remastercc doesn't seem to do anything either. Think this old box is ready for the ash heap but I may go back and try t3 before I give it upinxi -F -z

Yup, this worked. Replacing gtkdialog ver 0.8.1 with ver 0.7.20-4 restored functioning, ie Control Center, mountbox, Logout, etc.
So, that’s on P200MMX/64M ram, K2-266MHz/128M ram and K6-400MHz/256M ram. With either antix kernels, 3.3.5 and 3.4.1.

Hello, have been a fan of antiX for a long time.
I have tried to load the full version of antiX-12 on a Dell Optiplex 8300 (Pentium 4 2.66 GHz with 512MB of RAM) but receive a kernel panic for some reason but have no problems loading antiX-12 base which runs great.
Not sure if there are any suggestions for getting the full version to run.
Also, I am not sure if there is a method for updating the base version as it does not contain an update manager such as Synaptic.
Thanks.

sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install synaptic.
From there, you can add or remove whatever you want; that's what Base is all about. Once you do that, you'll have a system that suits you perfectly, and you only have to do it once (unless you decide to install another system later).
Hope that helps; write back if you need additional guidance. Not sure why Full did not work for you; maybe anti has some ideas.
You may not be familiar with this technique - at first, but it's not at all difficult to do once or twice, and it's also a good skill to have in your toolchest. You will have to login at least once into a terminal console, become root (sudo will do it), so you can run this compound command:shempshere wrote:Hello, have been a fan of antiX for a long time.

shempshere:
re -Full. My guess is a bad burn, burn it very slowly or use an alternative boot method ie usb, from hard drive (my favourite method and one I would recommend to all antiX testers).
re -base as masinick advises, (but use su rather than sudo as sudo isn't set up in antiX) or install synaptic and use that to install whatever you want. There is also the meta-installer application to install groups of software such as libreoffice etc.
