Brian, I think the version of antiX you have doesn't have systemd installed. Not sure how it would work with upgrades.
But, like you say, it is far too experimental to have as default.
topic title: antiX-12 series available for 'final' testing.

That may be the case, anti. I'll see if I can install systemd and give it a try, and see if that makes any difference.

I installed live-config-systemd, libpam-systemd, libsystemd-daemon0, libsystemd-login0, systemd, and systemd-gui. Not sure if those are the best packages to install or not, but I'll reboot in a little while and run the init=/bin/systemd option again and see if I get any better results; I'll let you know what happens.

I'm tracking it with interest, because I do see a great future in it. but the Debian developers are behind Fedora, Ubuntu, and some of the others in their current implementation of it, at least as I currently view it.
Installing these packages and starting with init=/bin/systemd now works instead of causing a kernel panic, but it does not, with that alone, result in a faster boot; I'd say it takes twice as long. So again, until services are developed that optimize this approach, it's an experiment at best.masinick wrote:I installed live-config-systemd, libpam-systemd, libsystemd-daemon0, libsystemd-login0, systemd, and systemd-gui. Anti, on another subject relating to antiX-base M12.0, I got another system to test with, and last weekend, I installed antiX-base M12.0 on a 2004-vintage Dell Dimension 3000 desktop system. I set it up in the upstairs den of the condo, where I am temporarily living with my Mother. I set it up for the purpose of getting my Lenovo laptop back (where I have one of my two antiX core instances).
I have to tell you, antiX-base is TERRIFIC on that box; turns it into something VERY usable! My sister gave the system to me because they have a much newer and faster HP laptop, but I took one look at that system, a nice black and silver desktop with a nice flatscreen LCD display, and I thought,"I can get this thing running really nicely with an antiX installation!"
One of the great decisions made was to make JWM and IceWM available as well as Fluxbox, and another great decision was to offer an easy way to create automatic logins, and yet another great decision was providing an easy tool to set the default desktop. I set the thing up to run JWM with Rox icons for the terminal and browsing, and automatic login for my Mom. Now the system is really easy to use. All she has to do it turn it on, wait for the desktop to appear, and click the browser icon once, and the Web browser starts up. I have it all set for her to read Live.com Email and I have another tab all set for her to read the Detroit Free Press, and I have a search widget set up, in case she wants to do online research. That's pretty much all she needs, so antiX-base is fast and absolutely perfect for that kind of need. It's just as easy to use as the Windows XP that was previously on this system, but it's so much faster, that it was a natural. Now we don't have to worry about maintenance. I can update it periodically if I continue living here, and whenever I stop by, if I end up moving elsewhere. Perfect!
... an eighty four year old intelligent woman, but one not familiar with technology, yet able to use an old computer, thanks to antiX! YES!

I downloaded the ANTIX 12 iso file and copied to a CD. I don t know if this is a mistake but, I boot the machine by this CDROM ( like I m doing with ANTIX 11 iso file Without to install in the HDD) and have this problems:
1. I can t mount the HDD because not have root privileges. In a terminal with root privileges and with the command"mount /dev/sda1 /media/sda1" I can mount HDD.
2. The internet aplication"transmission" don t work for download bit torrent files.
The new office sotfware"Libre office 3" are good and the same with the new music player.
Thanks for this good linux software

If I understand your questions and issues correctly, it is not unusual to have to have root privileges in order to mount a device; in fact, it is typical. In order to mount a device without root privileges, special provisions have to be made, and it's not usually advisable to do so - then you open the door for someone without system authority to potentially do the same thing, so I'd be generally cautious about doing that unless you have a really specific reason for doing so, (and in that case, I'd make extra precautions in other ways to account for this).
Please give more specifics about exactly what doesn't work in transmission. Was it a particular site that was inaccessible? Did the application generate a failure? What exactly happened?
Personally, I've used a variety of torrent clients, and it seems to depend which system I'm on and what sites I'm accessing for what works best, but transmission does generally work. So explain in more detail what your specific problem was, and perhaps someone will have a suggestion or an alternative for you.
Hope that helps. Do write back and let us know the follow up question and answers mentioned above. Glad to have you with us!

Hi brian, thanks for your reply.
I use the Transmission in ANTIX 11 and don t have any problem. I try to use transmission in ANTIX 12 in the same way, the software shows the torrent in the window but don t start the download. The same torrent with transmission software in ANTIX 11 download without problem.
Respect the HDD, in ANTIX 11 is easy the access to the HDD only need to go by clicking the mouse to the icon in"/mnt/sda1" and click and have the HDD mounted. In ANTIX 12 the HDD icon is in"/media/sda1" a click in this icon don t mount the HDD, only by the"mount command" in a terminal with root privileges mount the HDD.
Thanks, Tito

I'm messing around with antiX core, running a 3.4.1 kernel, and within that, I'm running Virtualbox OSE, which has a DVD instance of antiX M12.0-t3 running; cool; here's how that looks:

Try spacefm, but rox should work. Or try menu -> Applications -> Other -> antiX-mountbox.
Find out what the device is seen as eg sdc1 and enter that to the /dev/ and /media/ section of the app.

Hi, when I tried with menu>applications>other>antix-mountbox the result you can see in the antix-mountboxjpg file attached. The HDD device is identified like /dev/sda1 but choosing the option"mount" don´t mount the HDD and don´t show any error.
If I try to open a file in HDD from any application, show the error that you can see in the file"error if try to open HDD.jpg" attached.
The spacefm file manager can´t show the HDD.
greetings, Tito

I've been procrastinating lately. Been busy promoting AntiX plus helping users get the hang of AntiX. Plus real life stuff keeping me busy. Anyhows. Here is my EEEPC 900 running Live USB i486 full iso made with unetbootin.
I'll probably blow away the AntiX 11 install on this eventually and set up this eeepc differently than I have on previous installs. I will install AntiX to secondary 16gig SSD internal drive and make the 4 gig internal primary SSD drive fat32 for storage. I am finding that fighting the dist-upgrade space on the 4 gig SSD is not really worth the effort and I don't think speed of OS will be lessened running off of the secondary 16gig SSD drive.
Also. I think my 4gig soldered in internal SSD drive is getting on it's last legs as it throws ata errors on boot before fulling booting up.
I have to back up some conkys and wallpapers and music and comiic books and, etc....... to the cloud first.
I have a Minus.com account and a Ubuntu one account for this and just found out about using Google drive (I have a gmail account and google account already for this). So not much testing yet till I get some more personal time available.
Tap works
Mic not working in mhwaveedit. Probably needs tweaking like I did before.
Speakers and youtube work.
Wicd worked with wlan0 and wpa2 wireless encryption.
Just a quick run through. Happy Trails, Rok.
Edit: Mount Box worked for me.

I'm out in the shop now. Took the pendrive out there. Pendrive won't boot on my Emachine Desktop but I already have AntiX11 installed on it so no biggy. That emachine is picky hardware at the best of times.
Here is the other Desktop in the Shop. IBM M57.
Wireless works with wicd on wlan0 with wpa2 encryptiion.
Sound and flash works.
