I have an old Dell C600, in general works great (had to install via xorg cheats). But I cannot get flash to work. I've tried reinstalling, also tried gnash. When I used puppy I had to install an older version of flash. I did get flash to work on the previous M12 (RC1). Any ideas?

This is not a fix per se for your flash woes but Chrome browser (not Chromium) comes with it's own flash and might be a temporary solution for you. You can download it for Linux here: (
========= SCRAPER REMOVED AN EMBEDDED LINK HERE ===========
url was:"https://www.google.com/intl/en/chrome/browser/"
linktext was:"https://www.google.com/intl/en/chrome/browser/"
====================================
). Iron-browser is built from Chromium source (or so I understand) so I doubt it has embedded flash but it might be worth checking into as Chrome does, by default, call home. Hope this helps you out at least for a while.

Edit: You don't say how you installed / reinstalled flash: Synaptic? Terminal? Did you try as root

Code: Select all

apt-get install flashplugin-nonfree

Is it me or are the fonts in RC2 a little different. I like it.

I think they might be... and I believe little things, like the buttons in xmms.
Imo, it just looks a bit nicer, but I can't say why?

HP Pavilion DM4-1265dx core I5 4 gb ram

this machine requires removal of the"noxorg" cheat from the livecd entries to work.

everthing but media keys are working. Flashblock plugin doesn't work well with Pandora.com and its not obvious that flashblock is the issue (no little"f" icon).

Under fluxbox there are two entries in Applications/Preferences for synaptic and gparted.

DVD's don't work out of the box with gnome player or vlc. libdvdcss2 needs installed. Not a big deal but not obvious either. I'm probably one of 2 people on the planet using a linux computer to watch dvds.

Grub menu entries for windows are still wrong.

Whatever was done to the fonts and gtk icons, its a big improvement in my opinion.

To some people, it is common knowledge that proprietary DVD formats require the addition of libdvdcss2, but if we do not have that clearly documented anywhere, that's an opportunity for us as a community to improve our documentation. Where do you think it would be most helpful to add this information? (I am not sure whether or not we can get away with including libdvdcss2 in our kit; some countries, like the USA, for example, and probably Japan, frown on such software being directly included in software). I am not a legal attorney, so I do not know specifically what is allowed or disallowed or why.

the thing is I think we had it installed in a previous version. Its been a while since I searched out libdvdcss2 in the repos.

as far as the legalities, I don't know, but antix plays MP3's out of the box.

Yes, mp3 media does not require the inclusion of libdvdcss2; that library covers loading proprietary encrypted DVDs. I don't think we've ever included it directly; I generally just add it in if I want to play a DVD.

I just meant that mp3 is not an open standard either. Its no big to install libdvdcss2 thats for sure. Maybe tips and tricks section with a DVD tag.

Re libdvdcss2

Might be better to have a DVD 'sticky' in a 'media' section.

The updated faq documents have a question about playing dvds. Have a look and let me know what other FAQ's we need (and the answers of course) __{{emoticon}}__

yep, under the dvd question would be the place to put it.

"To play a commercial DVD you may need to install libdvdcss2. You can install this via synaptic or at the command line with apt-get install libdvdcss2"

DVD videos don't play. How come?

You will need to install 'libdvdcss2' and maybe some codecs by enabling the 'deb-multimedia' repository
(see above how to do this) and then either search for 'libdvdcss2' in synaptic and then install or use
the command line.

* apt-get update
* apt-get install libdvdcss2

antiX strongly advises users not to keep the deb-multimedia repository enabled as there may be
conflicts.

Is what I have.
