I tried to start Antix with a CD antiX-M8.iso

It seems it can only start a live session and I don't succed in making a real installation.

Can you help me please

Can you describe what the problem is? If you have a live-cd session going, then installing Antix is done by clicking on the"Install" option in the menu.

I tried the three ones, I don't have"install" or"installation" anywhere

When I wait on"Antix" a few seconds, it continues and does a live session.

What should I do exactly ?

Pierre, you must boot in the live session, antiX, login (username=demo; password=demo) and you'l get in the Desktop. There you either press the 'Windows' key or right click on your Desktop to open the menu. In the menu there's the option to install.
Please tell me how much space you have reserved for antiX in the hd.

I opened the session another time : it's obvious it's a live session but it is not written anywhere except maybe in the Linux initialization lines before

There was neither explicit login"demo" nor opportunity to do it.

Right click on the desktop doesn't give anything

In the start menu (bottom, left of the desktop) there is a"windows" menu. Il gives a windows with :

No possibility of doing"enter" on it.

Hi, Pierre. Sorry for the late response. Ok, you're on the Desktop, only you must press the left 'Windows' key (the right one gives the options about the workspaces. There in the menu you'll find the 'antiX Installer' option. Click it and the installation will start.
At the default installation it will create a 6 GB root partition, a 1,5 GB home partition and 0,5 GB swap. That is a too big root and too small home, so you manually change to 3 GB the root, leave the swap as it is and give the rest to your home partition (you'll see when it comes the option to do that). Apart from that you can go on normally with the installation.

EDIT - now I see you may using the antiX 'base' version. Let me go to the Fluxbox environment to see how it works there. (If you have a wallpaper with a tree and grass then you're in the full version of antiX).

I look at the programs, I don't know all of them.

Is wicd the default connection program ?

I looked for detailed documentation about the distrib, I didn't find.

When click on the start button - bottom left corner - look for"Help". When the submenu appears, go to"antiX". Next, click on"antiX FAQ".

You have the full version. The 'base' version is another .iso file, a bit smaller. It has less programs and only one windows manager ( the user interface ), Fluxbox. In the full version there is besides Fluxbox, IceWM, which is the default windows manager (the one you're using). You find the option to change them in Menu>Desktop>Alternatives>Fluxbox. The 'base' version works with less RAM as a default.

In the 'Control Centre' (the tools icon in the taskbar), under 'network' tab, you find 'Configure Network Interfaces' and 'Manage Network Interfaces'. Besides that, there are something in Menu>Network>Connect and Menu>Applications>Apps>System>Administration. But it seems the 'Control Centre' options unite them all or at least most of them. But I haven't a wireless connection so I can't talk about that, although it does use wicd (I see it at the boot time).

For documentation you may go to Menu>Help, there you'll find writings about antiX, IceWM, Fluxbox and others.

I tried fluxbox, it's suitable to me. The tree has desappeared !

I think the basic version would be suficient.

(look for base.iso - it's somewhat smaller than the full one).

Also I should point out that the base version doesn't have the 'Control Center'. That means you may have to go to 'ceni' to configure your network interfaces, use apt-get to install/upgrade packages (if you like Synaptic, just do an 'apt-get update'>'apt-get install synaptic' as root to install it) and, if I remember well, there's no video player installed so if you want one you may install VLC or mplayer (but with this one you may need to tweak here and there to make it work, from my experience, even if it is the default in antiX 'full').

As a last but not least recommendation, do this

EDIT - Pierre, let me clear the subject about partitioning the hd at the install before you do so, if you can wait (there's another thread on that).
UPDATE - Pierre, instead of partitioning the way I told you above (which would work, BTW), just create a '/' partition and the swap one. You may leave it without a 'home' dedicated partition if you like.

The basic seems too small to me (no Synaptic). I began the full version installation.

It asks for the administrative password, I tried"demo" but it doesn't want it.

User=root; password=root

I did :"rearrange disks partitions (optional)"

It suggest to me (9.36 available) :

Is it good or do I modify anything ?
