* So, what is MX-14?

"MX-14 is a midweight OS designed to combine an elegant and efficient desktop with simple configuration, solid performance and medium-sized footprint.
It is a collaborative product from the Mepis and antiX developers and communities, relying on the excellent upstream work by Linux, Debian, and Xfce. It also incorporates the independent and innovative development products Whisker Menu, simsu and gottet, Midori Browser, smxi and inxi."

Looking forward to this one, anti, since I've been using my own customized version that's pretty similar to this for the past 4-5 years.
Great work! I'll send any comments I have to the forum; congratulations here!

Not yet fully determined, but this should give some idea:

I doubt that would produce a good outcome but MX-14 installs as easily as antiX

Has MX 14 russian language?
Not yet, but translators are always welcome... __{{emoticon}}__

I just got a fatal error, I tried to check the md5 from the menu, and got the error before the check can load.
I'll download it again, and try it later.

thanks anticapitalista, I had indeed jumped the gun there,
..I can see the differences, not just from the md5.
Cheers

@worktowork - I'm sticking with antix on my older gear. MX-14 is geared toward machines that are a little newer and/or more capability than what you can get by with in antix.

Like D.O. says. I have MX14 installed on one of the oldest boxes so far

Code: Select all

I ditched deadbeef music player and went back with xmms instead. Just like it better.
Installed Chromium and pepperflashplugin-nonfree. This box is about as low as you wanna go
with a cpu and ram on this distro.

I don't think I'll keep it on here. But it is OK for testing. Ram is at 203MB with Midori while I am posting and xmms grabbing a streaming radio station with Conky running in XFCE.

I agree with you both. MX-14 is heavier than antiX. It is meant to be __{{emoticon}}__
Still, it is much lighter than kde and in my tests one of the lightest implementations of xfce.

roky - the installer now has the option to install home to a separate drive. Care to test it out?

I wish I would have know earlier. I guess I could start all over since no one else is testing it out I guess. I kinda wish I had my eeepc dual drive ssd 900 now for this but I can carve up

Code: Select all

sudo fdisk -l

Disk /dev/sda: 160 GB, 160039272960 bytes
255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 19457 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes

   Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System
/dev/sda1               1       19458   156296353   83  Linux
Warning: Partition 1 does not end on cylinder boundary.

Disk /dev/sdb: 40 GB, 40015987200 bytes
255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 4865 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes

   Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System
/dev/sdb1   *           1        1167     9373896   83  Linux
/dev/sdb2            1168        4723    28555537   83  Linux
/dev/sdb3            4724        4865     1132582   82  Linux swap
The 160 gig drive but I'll wait till you tell me that I can install / to lets say a 12gig ext4 partition made on /dev/sda2 when I make it and the installer will know if I tell it to put /home on /dev/sdb2 which will be roundabout 28 gig ext4. I will wait for feedback. If it is a go. I'll start over. The cd is on a napkin next to the computer. \

Shoot, there goes my pretty install

Midori still takes some time getting used to also I guess. I don't like xfce screenshooter also because it defaults to png so I use scrot instead.
