I ended up here because I have several older laptops lying around, which I like to fix up and pass on to people in need of a computer. There's a fairly recent Dell, an Inspiron 3520, an older model (Inspiron 1545), and an even older one (Latitude 8600), along with two Toshiba A105's. I usually just install a small SSD and put in a few extra gigs of RAM if I have it lying around, and then see what the best distro for them is. The 3520 and the 1545 (which has been upgraded to a C2D T9900) have no problems running full-blown Mint Cinnamon 18.2, but that's not the best solution for the others. The two A105's are both running C2D T7200's, and antiX works fantastic on these machines; in fact, I'm using one of them right now to type this response. The Dell 8600 has a Pentium M in it, and so far, I'm having better luck with SliTaz than with antiX, which works but usually runs at very high CPU usage.

Anyway, I never tried antiX until recently, when I was researching for lightweight distros that were alternatives to Puppy or SliTaz. I found out about it from reading reviews on Distrowatch.com.

Welcome & by the Louisiana Howdy Cajun country. You will find antix is easier on your hardware.

EDIT:: Translation by computer sucks. Should have read"Welcome & Howdy from the Louisiana Cajun Country. You will find antix is easier on your hardware."
