Got Etch and Lenny to work on my mini itx boxes, but not Jessie. The Debian forum suggested I try AntiX so here I am. The AntiX 15 i386 looks very promissing and I would be well pleased if it will boot off the hdd. I loaded grub to the mbr but no boot, only off the cd, when loaded

Start a thread in new users for that issue. Include exact steps followed and /dev/sdx number of drive mbr pas pointed at.

Include inxi -Fxz redout in your thread.

You could at least use nano instead of leafpad to see and edit files in terminal window.
But what about trying the older release antiX 13?

hello world. i am a casual linux user and have many different flavors of Puppy (macpup, simplicity, mediapup, etc) as well as knoppix on a stick. i recovered my old t40 from mom's garage and originally installed fedora 20 and then debian 8 earlier this year. they both worked fine but i really wanted something more streamlined and minimalist ootb yet still have the available resources to be flexible and expandable. so recently i have been playing around with tinycore linux and i really like this distro a lot. it's very fast, has a good pedigree and lots of contributors with a lively forum. but while poking around on DW i also found antiX-15 to be in that 'goldilocks zone' for my t40. hmmm. so which will i choose? oh well, i may just end up installing both, but i really wanted to avoid partitioning. anyways, i just want to say i have very high hopes for antiX-15 and i will be poking around the forums for good tips and future news. big cheers to anticapitalista and all antiXers.

Hi Hendrix, I used to use TinyCore also, plus SliTaz, but have returned to AntiX full time, it is just such a good version of Linux. __{{emoticon}}__

@fatmac, i can understand why you use antiX fulltime. i spent all night long modding and playing with antiX on my old t40 as my ipad and acer sat on the couch. actually, it was all quite boring as there was no hiccups or problems whatsoever from installation to setting up my network and surfing the web and all the applications just worked ootb. i can confidently say it was the easiest OS installation i can remember.

antiX has definitely won me over and will be my dedicated OS on the t40. and that's funny you mention #! bcuz that was also one of my top choices until corenominal announced his decision in February to stop developing so i looked elsewhere to tinycore and finally antiX. after finding my lost t40 i was in a distro-hopping mode for months, but now i believe antiX has cured me of that bug.

antiX is well deserving of all the accolades it has rec'd and i want to give a big huge thanks to anticapitalista for this wonderful distro. cheers.

I started using linux as a way to get a Half-Life server to stay running years ago.
After using a few distros for a while , I liked the Debian based distros the best.
I discovered Mepis around version 5 maybe.
I used SuSE for a couple years , but it was kinda"windows like" for me.
Then I found antiX , and played around with a few window managers.
I liked the idea of set it and forget it and no magic in the backround.
Even at 56 years old , I find it very interesting how the system talks to the hardware.
I tried to build a few kernels , but that just gave me headaches.
I just installed antiX 15 after using Ludite for a couple years , I really like '15.
Here's my main machine's inxi Needless to say , this machine flies and runs everything RIGHT NOW , I love it.
I hope I can add something to the forum , I'm just an Auto mechanic that likes my machines"my way" and antiX is the ticket.
I think I watched all the videos by dolphin oracle at least twice , keep em coming.

Welcome and Howdy from a Crazy Cajun. I've been installing antiX on various machines that originally had Windows 95, ME, and 98 on them; most people's junk that they want to get rid of. I have been setting up these machines and giving to kids in the neighborhood who don't have computers. Once they understand the basics, they really go for it on the internet. I teach them how it works, and the kids are more interested in how it works than just playing games.

Well, my netbook was so slow so I thought I should try out Linux on it. Fittingly, golem.de made an article on linux distributions which support very old/slow machines and I thought I should give antiX a shot!

Hi folks. I've been playing with Puppies for a year as an intro to Linux. Much encouraged, I began researching and trying the many distros available. I think I first saw mention of antiX in Everyday Linux User or one of the other various columns. The great pun in the name struck me as did the word"remaster." From my experience with Puppies, I knew that remastering was the the greatest OS involvement device ever invented. It gives you a sense of personal ownership as great as the first working assembly compile in MASM. (yeah, I'm that old). My first install of antiX 15 was a delight. So was MX-14. After trying Debian 8 I realized what a fine job of ironing out the kinks has been accomplished. And so I say thank you to all those who spent countless hours to provide a welcoming way into alternative computing. Small, simple, fast, and efficient. Very nice work! - Eric

So, how did you get to antiX?

I started with RHL 4 long time ago, then Mandrake, then FreeBSD, then OpenBSD, then Knopix, then Mandriva, then Debian, then Ubuntu, Xubuntu, Lubuntu, Kubuntu, Mint, Elementary (wich look and feel i love the most) then Antix and checking out PiSi Linux.

In my personal netbook, Dell Mini 9, 2gb RAM, 250gb USB HD, i am running Antix Linux.

How do i feel it? cool by now! like 1998 but running smooth...

I have a long road to go, learning from those who had mastered this system!

1997. Bough compureter. Listened to Abjab" format:C" every month for six months or so.
Discovered Knoppix. Discovered Debian. Discovered Stormix. Discovered Xandros.Discovered Ubuntu.
Went back to tossind Debian and revisions(like this one)
Currently triple booting AX15, Linuxlite 2.6 , Mint Debian 2.

I spread the word on these 3 systems. Currently you guys are tied for #1 with Linux Lite and Mint is a but distant second yet worth running to us geeks.The rolling thing is fun to experiment with if one knows how to repair it quickly when needed. NOT for N00BZ.
My 88 year old dad has yours on his"internet" machine. He knows the whole Debian story and trusts it without question.
His old legal software is WIN specific(offline) so he can boot in and play when he needs to.
