antiX-M11-686 and antiX-M11-base-686 uploaded to mepisimo Released folder.
This should be the released versions, but just a last-minute (well day or 2) check before I announce to Distrowatch and upload the 486 files and also to MEPIS mirrors.
The antiX-M11-686 file is approx. 663MB and antiX-M11-base-686 approx. 350MB.
Enjoy and post here if there are any issues.

Here is where the files are:

things i noticed and some suggestions:
- the autologin in live isn't working.
- the start-up song is annoying as hell and very loud, antix starts in 81% volume, so this can scare someone (weak of heart?) really bad.
- the volume app in the taskbar doesn't work.
- there isn't a file manager shortcut in the icewm menu. i think this will annoy a lot of users, i suggest adding it.
- also change the files entry on the desktop from rox to thunar. good for newbies.
- thunar seams to pick up the mounted flash drives just fine. but i think it has an option to pop-up when hot plugged or inserted that isn't working i guess because it is not enabled at start-up.
- fluxbox automenu doen't show in live.
- in fluxbox system > file tools > there is an entry for pcmanfm
- maybe it is a good thing to add music and video to the icewm menu
- unify the entire settings, desktop, system, tools in one sinple menu named system.
- the tools (system in current fluxbox) menu seams a little pointless, because all the tools are in applications and control center.
- replace the logout menu in icewm with the antixexit it's much nicer and removes a duality in options and confusion among users.
- when running lang=ro the menu for icewm and fluxbox and the taskbar for icewm are in english.
- in live cd, thunar didn't mount my sda partition of the hdd. there were not in the side bar. i mounted them with rox-filer.

the new release is shaping quite nice. if i spot anything else i'll let you know.

Agh. Have base iso running live. Just got thrown out of forums with oeperation timed out. Back again still logged in but original attempt at message vanished. R u sure this isn't a release candidate? Initially the wireless was at 1Mb/s, now 54Mb/s. Download of iso was 200-400 KB/s roughly. Hmmm, just still wondering whether earlier network persistence issues have been resolved. DNS seemed to come and go. Maybe just cosmic rays or my imagination. Don't have time for a long run tonight. Live on Compaq Presario V2000 laptop with Radeon XPRESS 200m and BCM 4318 wifi.

ICE-M, I'll answer your points, but I think you might have tested an older version.
inxi -F will show version.

- auto-login works ok here.
- ok, I'll lower the volume or maybe remove the sound.
- absvolume is broken, but clicking on the icon should open alsamixer. Works ok here.
- there is above the browser.
- ok.
- yes, it is not enabled.
- Does here. Maybe you nedd to run auto-menu in Desktop again, then restart fluxbox.
- Set to thunar here.
- I'll see about adding music and video to icewm menu.
- unify settings, I'll think about it.
- replace logout in icewm, ok.
- lang-ro works as it should here.
- I think that is supposed to happen with Thunar. (a security feature)

gnomic, when you have time, could you test out more, especially using network options ie ceni, wicd etc.

there seams to be a conflict between the previous settings from persistent and the new version. i deleted the settings and now all the things that i reported broken work. the new version it's just awesome.

anti,

Am running the livecd from this really old laptop circa 1998, wireless works, did not have to use any boot codes, but did have to change the boot order to the cd as first otherwisee would just hang. So far no worries.

I configured wireless with ceni under live CD and lo and behold, did not have to reconfigure after install...excellent.

Performed apt-get install apt-xapian-index for Synaptic.

So far so good... I like Thunar, Xfburn and the new Gui(s) Sound is okay for me.
I'm using ohh wallpaper.

I have been running two instances of antiX throughout the testing cycle which are merely updated from the 8.5 release, but I've also downloaded a couple of full and base ISO images and used them live to make sure that all is well, and it has been for me. Now I'm running the final full edition live, and I ran the RC1 base edition about a week ago, and both are working well on the Gateway. I am going to try them out on my Lenovo 3000 series Y410 laptop just to make sure all is well there, too, but I am confident that these images will work perfectly, as they are now.

Congratulations on getting the release out. I had a feeling that we might be ready for release a little before the parent release and that appears to be the case, though I've had good results with the MEPIS builds during testing as well.

As usual, I have not only been testing, but I've been sharing on several of the Linux forums I visit about my testing experiences and recommending that others try out antiX. I will probably write a few blogs about antiX over the next several days as well. I hope many people enjoy this release as much as I've always enjoyed antiX. This one is a great release, built on that solid Debian foundation. The way Squeeze was going, I knew that would be the case, and Wheezy also seems to be getting along reasonably well, even with a few of the test hiccups that occasionally happen. Thanks for the"heads up" on the udev issue in Wheezy; I'll hold off on my usual antiX package updates from Wheezy until that quirk is fixed in Wheezy.

I wrote a note on Extreme Tech the other day, mentioning the availability of antiX M11.0, and my friend Bill Julian wrote back, so I added a quick set of accolades for antiX and the numerous ways it can be used to create just the right system for a wide variety of interests. You can find the forum thread at

Hi there, sorry haven't got back sooner, some real life stuff going on . . . .

Base iso 686 final draft live as i write -

Still booting too fast for my taste from options screen - min 30 secs here please

Is there a copy to ram option on initial screen? If not why not? If it wasn't booting so fast maybe I'd know.

Just tried to start a d/l in browser to a drive attached via usb - no go - the volume is owned by root - maybe a case of THIS SHOULD NEVER HAPPEN? The volume needs to be available for writing by the user? Can't think of the obvious mistake I'm making right now.

Code: Select all

demo@antiX1:~$ ls -al /aufs/media/
total 16
drwxr-xr-x 11 root root 60 Apr 9 07:05 .
drwxr-xr-x 29 root root 240 Apr 9 07:04 ..

------s--T 1 root root 0 May 18 2007 .hal-mtab-lock

drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 3 Mar 25 09:01 usb1
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 3 Mar 25 09:01 usb2
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 3 Mar 25 09:01 usb3

drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 3 Mar 25 09:01 usb6
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 3 Mar 25 09:01 usb7
The drive in question seems to be showing up as usb0.

Code: Select all

/dev/sdb1 on /aufs/media/usb0 type vfat (rw,noexec,nodev,sync,noatime,nodiratime)
Edited by Rok

This is on a Dell D610 laptop with ipw2200 intel 2915. Ceni works with WPA TKIP.

Btw if the rutilt wifi thing is screwing up with a ralink card and is just an optional extra, maybe can it?

Will try to test some more in next day or so.

gnomic,

at menu, press the down key and the rundown timer will stop.

usbmount is used to automount usb devices and it is not working correctly. Even as live, remove usbmount, and mount your devices manually (until I find a fix) by using fdisk -l (in a root terminal to detect your device) and in a user terminal type pmount /dev/xxxx and it should mount in Rox under /media as user (providing the stick is owned by user and not root).

Live session only
Still has that continuous uTuTuTuTuT sound (I had previously tried the beta public test)
I commented out the startup sound then restarted Fluxbox, it went to a SLiM login (which is not how Fluxbox should restart)
After using password to login, I tried opening Thunar again, black screen, had to hard reset
I did not install, with that many serious problems in about 5 minutes, would you ?

What has opening Thunar got to do with black screen?
