The problem is that you cannot run squeeze with a kernel less than 2.6.32 as udev demands at least that version.

I guess I need to load the drivers for the Broadcom cards somehow so that 2.6.32 picks up the cards?

thanks

The broadcom drivers should be available. See here:

Thanks Anti. I found the same page!

However, it says I should load the wl module, but how can I do that if I can't connect (even with ethernet)? Or can I apt-get install module-assistant and wireless-tools using the mepis kernel that does work and the follow the instructions after booting up the kernel that does not see the cards?

thanks.

Use the old kernel to install wireless-tools and the firmware you need if it connects.

In the liquorix kernel, I am stuck at the

#modprobe wl

part. It says"command not found", so I guess this kernel didn't come with wl. any other way of installing into the liquorix kernel from inside the mepis kernel?

thanks

I isntalled the wl module into the liquorix kernel using the file and instructions from here:

after loading the wl module, wireless now works __{{emoticon}}__ So that's a success and I'm pretty proud of myself for conquering the Broadcom problem.

The funny thing is....I still can't see my usb sticks __{{emoticon}}__

So are we back to purging and reinstalling halevt as Antix suggested near the beginning of this?

thanks

Turns out that halevt was not installed, so I went ahead and installed it. However, I still can't see the sticks.

I have a 2nd problem. the wl module does not persist so I have to insmod it after rebooting. Any solutions to this?

thanks.

You'll probably need to do something to /etc/modules.d/

Try removing the bcm.conf file or whatever it is called.

Check that /lib/udev/rules.d/50-udev-default.rules exist and delete the 50-udev.rules file if there is one.

Make sure /etc/udev/rules.d/65_dmsetup.conf doesn't have a dpkg suffix.

Remember if using pcmanfm to mount usb, they will probably show up in /mnt or /media

Fixed the usb problem. So that's good.

Still having to load up the wl module manually. I don't have an /etc/modules.d file.

thanks

/etc/modules.d is a folder and in it there is probably a file to do with bcm.conf. I don't have one as I delted it.

Thanks. I removed b43.conf. Maybe that will fix it.
