could you get the details of his set up in VMWare Player 3.0.1 as I think this is the root of the problem.
The cli-installer is pretty basic at the moment and its purpose is simply to get antiX-live onto your hard disk as quickly and efficiently as possible therefore few bells and whistles. If you have multiple partitions on multiple hard drives, cli-installer should still work, but you may run into problems especially regarding grub.
A further complication is that we are still using grub-gfxboot with up to date grub-common.
In a test earlier today I had a problem when agreeing to install grub to mbr (antiX was installed to sdb2). It succeeded but continued to use an existing grub menu on sda1.
For testing purposes in VB or VM could people try out the various scenarios.
1. Unformatted drive - no partitions ie 'virgin"
2. Existing drive with one or 2 partitions
3. Multiple partitions with existing OS. Choose install grub to mbr option and choose not to install to mbr.

Narrowing down the issue with cli-installer in core. It seems to be only a problem in core and not base or full running either gui installer or cli-installer.
In core, we have the latest grub-common (in base and full it was put on hold) and that runs completely different from earlier version in how it sets up /boot/grub/device.map (it uses /dev/uuid rather than /dev/(s/h)da) and a grub-update adds a groot line with msdos added rather than (hd0,0).
No doubt it is due to changes coming into squeeze with grub2 (grub-pc).
So, installing antiX-core-b1 should be ok to mbr in a simple set up. More complex ones ie multi-boot various distros may be best not to install to mbr and add antiX entry to grub manually.

Installed 8.5 Full over old 8.5 Full on /dev/hdd5 ( I have 2 IDE 40 gig drives on this IBM M41 Desktop)
Preserved /home on install. Did a apt-get update and apt-get dist-upgrade right after install. No Problems there.
Wireless USB is wlan0 in WICD and had to use dhclient for preferences to connect. No problems there either.
Edited /boot/grub/menu.lst to include Frugal Puppy installs on /dev/hdd1 and /dev/hdd2 after I rebooted after apt-get dist-upgrade so it could update the menu first before I edited it,. Had to re-install file-roller again also to use the extract here option in pcmanfm because fresh install wiped the / file-roller files.
Might do a smxi later and see what Liquorix Kernel does on this box also,

Anti, I got a response, but not any more details, from the person over at Desktop Linux Reviews Forum who gave a few tries to antiX-core. For now, it does not look like he wants to invest any more time in it, but he may take another look later. I don't think we will be able to count on him for any more testing feedback, based on this response:"Sounds as if they have an fdisk issue more than a grub one. I would think that if one were to preformat the virtual disk with something like a Gparted liveCD or something, the cli-installer would probably go through.
Any way, I just really don't have an interest or a need for antiX. Peppermint and Puppy handle all my lightweight duties just fine. Obviously antiX would be a good choice for someone with very old hardware which I no longer have. My main interest was in a console based release which I could add my own stuff later. Version 8.10 was the last Ubuntu to fully support ATI in this fashion."

When I installed core-a1 back then, fdisk didn't work either. The installer worked fine after I pre-formatted the partitions.

Couple of small points on the full iso update, I dl and installed to my laptop, very fast and clean. The only two points for now is Menu> Applications> System Tools> luckyBackup (superuser\) is listed twice, was the same on livecd as install, and after install, while still in livecd, I edited some files then rebooted and livecd does not eject unless done manually. That may be normal since I did not opt to reboot at the prompt when the installer was finished, just wanted to let you know.
I set up the time, also edited the b43.conf and configured firehol and setup my wireless while in the livecd and all changes on the livecd carried over to the install, very cool, great job on this anti. Boot times are amazing, very fast!!!! __{{emoticon}}__

I think there's no pcmanfm icon in /usr/share/pixmaps so you may have to add a full path.

Details of possible bug with Update Menu (Auto), in both antiX-M8.5-486-update and -686-update:
I realize that this source is not the usual apt-get type, but what if you do not have an internet connection on your box, as with my P200MX, and only a winXP box for downloading?
Installed OO032 from OpenOffice.org, with dpkg, using all the debs except openoffice.org3.2-debian-menus_3.2-9472_all.deb. Then tried Update Menu (Auto) which did nothing. The OOo32 executable scripts are in /opt, not /usr. Then installed (with dpkg) the openoffice.org3.2-debian-menus deb, which did nothing to the menu.
From console as root:
root@antiX1:/home/drg/ooo32squeeze/desktop-integration# ls
openoffice.org3.2-debian-menus_3.2-9472_all.deb
root@antiX1:/home/drg/ooo32squeeze/desktop-integration# dpkg -i -G *.deb

Sorry for not answering earlier but basically the point regarding the menu in antiX is this: antiX is using a simple script that reads most of the .desktop files in /usr/share/applications and builds the menu based on that. This eventually misses some applications.
Debian's menu are based on files in /usr/share/menu. All Debian applications should have these files, most of them have but some miss that exactly because nowadays with the big desktop environments (and their freedesktop.org standards) the .desktop files at /usr/share/applications and /usr/local/share/applications are the standards for menu files.
The script that builds the menu in antiX is a bit weak because it doesn't read files in /usr/local/share/applications, because it can't read complex .desktop files and because it doesn't read the Debian menu files (which some applications have without having .desktop files).
In your case you can see your OOo menu either by making the menu in IceWM read the Debian menu (supposing that the Debian compatible menu you installed is a"menu" file) or by creating yourself .desktop files and putting them in /usr/share/applications.
The first alternative may be easier. To apply it you should edit ~/.icewm/menu and change
