Atheros AR9285 Wireless Network Adapter (PCI-Express) driver: ath9k

BTW, will there be a i686 version for the final release? I noticed that this is a 486.

Thanks
It is the same wireless chip as mine in my above post from yours. My connection is wpa2 encrypted also. No problems. Only difference is I used wicd to connect since I am running the full iso.

This is my landline in the house Desktop. Custom built Asus shuttle micro box. This is the one with my 23 incher led screen. Resolution OK.

Thanks roky. I always have trouble with wicd and fight to get it to work. Ceni always works. I'm a bit confused by that. I'm using the full iso too. Hmm.

Went back outside and plugged in pendrive to both m/c shop Wireless Desktops. Emachine Desktop with AntiX 11 installed only likes the 2.6.38 liqourix kernel. No 3.0 kernels want to boot on that Desktop. As stated in my previous posts on new kernel thread. Previous 2.6 kernels work just fine though with my wireless usb thumbdrive on that desktop.

This readout is from my IBM M57 Desktop that runs a wireless pci card. Same router with wpa2 encrypted network.

So 3 out of 4 aint bad. Besides. I am happy with the Antix install on that Emachine as is. I just keep updating it. Run it till I kill it since it was a dumpster machine.

antix1-full installed OK on P200MMX, 192M ram. Took a long time, typical for this box, big CD, didn't time it but more than 30 minutes. Used the cli-installer directly, ie not going into a gui. Slim works OK.
Before and during this install, I'd inserted an old usb flashdrive to get an easy fstab entry, which worked, but now that flashdrive only is recognixed and will open up in rox-filer. Aha, a UUID number issue.

Also did a separate install onto P4, 3.2GHz, without that usb flashdrive “trick”. Could not get rox-filer to mount it; perhaps my figuring out how to do so is lacking. Slim does not pop up unless I start it as root from the console (runlevel 3), but does not give rox-icewm option. If I log in as user in runlevel 3 and type startx, I do get rox-icewm, but no slim. Must be the way I installed.

But, aha, a chance to try the filemanagers 4pane and sunflower. Thru' devious means (a livecd) I copied over the needed .deb files. Created a /media/sdb1 mount point. Yup, they work ( on both boxes) and can mount usb flashdrive, and then mc or rox-filer can too. 4Pane has a Mount a Partition option, with a“mount a non-fstab partition”choice. You need to give root password to get the mount. I think pmount is used here. Not as easy as thunar.

Installing to the HDD was not successful. Grub refuses to cooperate.

First of all,

- The installer requires an explicit swap partition. He does not accept the existing tours.
This course is formatted, giving it a different UUID.

The system

Code: Select all

# fdisk -l /dev/sda
160.0 GByte, 160041885696 Byte
255 Köpfe, 63 Sektoren/Spur, 19457 Zylinder

Grub in the installer reported an unspecified"error" and aborts its installation.
I want to have him in sda7.

Retrieved from"outside" (Live CD / flash drive) is considered to fall, it was not created menu.lst.

Then the GRUB console

Code: Select all

grub> find /boot/grub/stage1
 (hd0,0)
 (hd0,6)
 (hd0,8)
 (hd0,9)

grub> root (hd0,6)
 Filesystem type is ext2fs, partition type 0x83

grub> setup (hd0,6)
 Checking if"/boot/grub/stage1" exists... yes
 Checking if"/boot/grub/stage2" exists... yes
 Checking if"/boot/grub/e2fs_stage1_5" exists... yes
 Running"embed /boot/grub/e2fs_stage1_5 (hd0,6)"... failed (this is not fatal)
 Running"embed /boot/grub/e2fs_stage1_5 (hd0,6)"... failed (this is not fatal)
 Running"install /boot/grub/stage1 (hd0,6) /boot/grub/stage2 p /boot/grub/menu
.lst"... succeeded
Done.

grub>
I once read somewhere that one should not fool him until he realizes ...

Let's see how many times I have to do it ...

@Anti: Is it really possible in the installer select Grub2?
sda7 was previously in a Linux system with Grub2 ...

Good day folks,
I'm having a difficult time on my laptop. I do believe that I have my wireless working via wicd, but ceni does not work. I say believe, since I can't get iceweasel to connect to any web page. So I'm not really sure.

I've also noticed that the word"null" appears below my conky after bootup, but then disappears after awhile.
I'll keep plugging away. __{{emoticon}}__

I finally ended up installing the latest Liquorix kernel to get my Intel wifi 5100 wireless working. I was able to find my wireless network after calling ceni from a root terminal.

I also was unable to get grub to install to my partition. I didn't try to install it to the MBR.
i configured my menu.list on the boot partition manually.

There is a new ceni in the antiX repo that should fix the failure to open from antixcc.

afab4 did you try these steps for antiX kernel?

Yes, there is a bug with installing grub to root partition. You can do it (with error) or chose not to install grub like afab4 did and edit your existing menu.lst (or whatever is the case for grub2).

This is because of this line in the .conkyrc

Code: Select all

${color3}${execi 300 persist-enabled}
The polls for the 300 sec persistenden memory.

I followed those directions except I downloaded the 2 packages as debs from the Sid repo's.
dpkg informed me that the firmware and wireless-tools packages were already installed.
I ran modprobe as instructed but it could not find the module.
iwconfig could not locate any wireless interface.
I then downloaded the latest liquorix kernel and headers and installed them, reconfigured my menu and rebooted.
ceni was then able to see the wireless interface and installation was successful.
I have been unable to get this wireless card working with any of the new antix kernels.
I haven't tried a stock Debian kernel.

Update: i installed Debian 3.2.0-1-686-pae and wireless works perfectly.

Ok, thanks for that afab4, I think I can fix it with a kernel upgrade.

afab4, I just uploaded a newer kernel and headers that hopefully gets your wifi working. Care to try it? 3.2.2-antix2

Since I installed the latest Liquorix and Debian kernels in my quest to get my wireless working in antiX-12 Test, i thought a ram usage comparison with the newest antiX kernel was in order.
I booted each kernel and recorded the ram usage at idle.

Liquorix= 49
Debian= 47.5
antiX= 49

impressive....
