md5sum = 1bccf3b1f5c451b96692b2f5d40c4925 antiX-base-t3.iso

Note this is the base version.

Features:

* latest Debian testing updates (25/04/2012)
* latest 3.3.3 kernel.
* better localisation (still in progress)
* bugs from test2 fixed
* alternative squeeze repos changed to wheezy as wheezy is projected to freeze in June and become new stable for 2013.
* latest spacefm added.
* iceweasel language packs removed.
* gui installer offers to install grub to MBR or don't install grub.
* latest ceni

Please test for general running live and installed, installation (in virtualbox is ok).
Try and find the bugs (I'm sure there are plenty still)
Also please test running live with persistence on a stick/frugal on a hard drive.
Test snapshot feature.

Known issue:

* antix2usb is still not working as a gui, but it is working as a script.

To use the antix2usb installer script, plug in usb device, open a root terminal and type:

new_usb.sh -b grub path/to/iso file usb device

ie

Code: Select all

 new_usb.sh -b grub /home/fred/antiX-base-t3.iso /dev/sdc
Or use unetbootin.

Does that still can not install GRUB in the partition of the PBR?

You cannot install grub into root partition. Either install grub to MBR or don't install it anywhere.
There should be a grub example in the root partition you installed to in /boot/grub for menu.lst entry.

I downloaded antiX-base-t3.iso and using new_usb.sh created a live USB.
I then installed the persistence options on the USB and everything went OK..
Then used the cli-installer (in live usb mode init 3) to install to my sda2 partition on my HD.
I installed a couple applications and used antixsnaphot to create a snapshot1.iso
I then burned that iso to a CD.
Booted the live CD and it saved my login and password OK. The only thing I noticed was that the wallpaper didn't get saved and the only icon on the desktop was"home" My installed applications were there and they worked fine.
Wireless via ceni worked fine. No issues.
Oh...and daveserver was not accessible on an apt-get update.

Made a live usb via windows 7 and LILI usb boot creater

Lili worked OK for making a live usb without persistence ,(the persistence feature in LILI not available in Windows 7 or Windows 8 yet I guess). . Booted up OK to grub screen. Had to use command line login, user=demo,password=demo,startx. Laptop hooked up to ethernet hard line did not connect automatically via ceni. Went into Ceni for eth0. It stated eth0 was already configured and did I want to delete or reconfigure it.

Just mentioning this as this is going to throw off a bunch of new users who might go this route.

Then tried wlan0 in ceni with my wpa encrypted network wifi router. Picked scan. Found my router. Typed in passkey. Accept. No Ip address in next window. All boxes were blank. Went with dhcp and the rest of defaults. Accept. No connection via wireless either.

Just another thing to throw off new users.

Next tried rutilt. passwords =root. Got multiple error 22 socket failure windows opened trying rutilt. This has been a recurring problem across all live Antix releases from what I can remember.

Now I approached this with the mindset of a non AntiX first time from Windows type of user trying to use the base Iso running live. So that is why I am posting and testing this way. We are starting to have more and more new users coming from Windows expecting things to just work without having to hack their way into getting connected. Not that I care all that much who decides to use AntiX or not. You said test. So I am testing, ( __{{emoticon}}__ with my Windows do-rag tied to my head)

I know how to get connected via Wicd and on all my core installs and base installs I install Wicd because it just works for me. That is why I recommend the full iso instead of the base or core to new users asking. Funny thing is. After I install to hardrive base or core. My internet connection via ceni works. That is how I install install wicd and wicd-gtk later. I don't know what is up with live base T3 and ceni and not connecting right out of the box in this version via hardline on boot or wireless after entering passkey/password for wpa .

I am going to wipe this usb back to blank fat32 as I already have a 16gig Antix test 1 Full iso install on SD flash drive on this Windows 7 Acer Aspire One 5534 laptop. This was done as just a test.

base t3 running off a usb stick. Created stick with unetbootin. Persistance does not work. Claims to not find a persistance file at boot up. I'm assuming that only the antix2usb script will make this persistance file.

no problems ceni. wireless up in seconds. atheros chipset.

this is on my eeepc904ha. Two finger scrolling used to work. It is now very buggy and intermittent. sometimes the touchpad scrolls with only one finger, but I can't replicate any actions reliably.

I'm going to install and try the snapshot as directed.

unetbootin doesn't create the persistence files (nor does antix2usb yet). You have to do it manually via antiXcc/live/set up persistence. Then reboot and after that you will have persistence.

Ok, created the homefs and rootfs persistance files using the live tab in control centre. rebooted and selected liveusb with root persistance. seemed to work pretty well, but did not survive a reboot despite selecting autosaved persistance files. manually saving the root persistance file carried over the changes I made (installing synaptic, ceni configuration) as well as the conky changes (I assume these went to homefs and that the autosave worked for home persistance). If this is intended behavior it was a little confusing. I'm going to install a few more things to the usb stick and then try a hard disk install. probably not get to it until tomorrow. Also, two finger scrolling does seem to work, just differently from before. still playing with that.

installed libreoffice and synaptic to the persistent usb stick. changed some conky settings and wallpaper. once i manually saved the rootfs once, the autosave worked on subsequent reboots. did a install fromthe stick. programs that went to the rootfs like libreoffice and synaptic carried through the install. so did the wireless settings through ceni. user items didd not (wallpaper and conky changes). i woulld expect that due to the way user accounts are handled. its really pretty nice once i understood how to use it.

the utilities to make the persistence files sorely need a progress indicator. i used htop to watch the dd process to know when the file system creation is finished. i used 1 gb filesystems, and onthe eeepc it takes a long time. the utilities' process checks are a nice touch, but a progress indicator would be better.

OK, this is maybe just happening on my machine but opening roxterm gives me a goofy prompt: __{{emoticon}}__

Usual confirmations. P200MMX, antiX-base 25April2012 installed fine with only 64M RAM
RAM usage seems up a bit more, ‘tho. With some services eg cron disabled on bootup , inxi –F gave me:
Init3 13.4/57.5MB
Rox-fluxbox/-jwm 27.0/57.5MB
Wmii 20.8/57.5MB

I have a smaller (but annoying) issue.
At the screen where I can choose sessions (fluxbox, jwm...and so on), I can only see the very top of the letters.
So I have to try to guess which is what.
On the old blue screen, with the little slim box in the middle(test2) it works fine, this is just on test3.
