Hope that those pictures help.

That is as far as the install boots on the first boot up.
Second attempt, booted all the way up to the desktop.

On a bootup or a reboot, if it stops , with the screen as showed in the 2 links, hold the power button till it shuts down, restart it and most time it will boot to the login and desktop. Had to do a 2nd shutdown and boot up once.

I installed on the samemachine as here: post49991.html#p49991
This time I got task-lxde-desktop and openchrome driver installed without pulling in systemd.
Even the 4.9 kernel works which is unusual, because with other distros it doesn't work with the openchrome driver on that machine.

Just to remind any readers that these net images are for those who want to experiment and also know more than just the basics, or are prepared to learn through trial and error..

The only problem on my last install is that login from LXDM takes unusually long, several minutes. I probably forgot some package. It din't take that long with LightDM which I used on alpha1. I will post my apt.log soon. Here it is

Will see if lightdm is better than lxdm. Edit: I can't say it is better, but I removed lxdm, reinstalled lightdm and it logs me in fast now. I think there was a conflict, because two DMs were installed and active in sysv-rc-conf.

Shay - that is one of the main advantages of building from scratch (or near enough). You learn so much more. Good on ya'!

Thank you. These threads have been the best teacher I have found on the internet so far. Keep up the good work!!

Figured out [drm:drm_atomic-helper_commit_cleanup ..........] just does not like this laptop .
[CRTC:26:pipe A] flip_done timed out.

Where I believe now where I get my black screen. GRRRRRR

Give up and put the AnitX 16 SSD back in. Worked on everything I have but this silly laptop.

I had some issues making lxde-logout show options for shutdown and reboot. I wasn't able to make them show up, installed upower, edited some files in /etc (sorry, forgot which).

So I decided to install exit-antix. I copied lxde-logout.desktop to ~/.local/share/applications/ and editied its Exec=antixexit.sh
This made the Exit button on the right side of the panel open antixexit.sh
Then I edited ~/.config/lxpanel/LXDE/config -> logout=antixexit.sh and changed the file's permissions to read only.
This made the Logout entry in menu launch antixexit.sh
The only issue is that reboot or shutdown opens a terminal which is a bit annoying, because I'm using terminator which is a bit slow to open.

I've been pretty busy or I would have jumped on this - that's all I used to do - build all kinds of diverse implementations, regardless of the starting point. Originally I did this with antiX-Full, but as we picked up Base and then Core, I did a lot of these. When I first saw MX, my first impression was,"Hey, I made one of these several years ago with a custom Core configuration.

IF I get a chance I'll give this one a try, but I really have not had sufficient time to put in anywhere near the kind of test coverage I'd put in 5-10 years ago; these days I run these things with intelligence, but I don't really exercise them like I once did. If I can encourage a few of my"buds" from various places to"kick the tires" I'll let 'em know that you have some more good test images to try out. Otherwise I'll try to at least install and observe any quirks. I have two old 32 bit laptops and a 2 year old 64 bit unit. They're all running versions of antiX (and I believe MX too).

Got the new Latitude E6430 , ok refurbished.

Things were going great until.

mate-desktop-environment : Depends: mate-desktop-environment-core (= 1.16.0+1) but it is not going to be installed
E: unable to correct problems, you have broken packages.

Did a apt clean and tried again and got the same error.

lightdm : Depends: dbus
Depends: libpam-systemd but it is not going to be installed or consolekit but it is not going to be installed
E: unable to correct problems, you have broken packages.

You will have to wait for a systemd-free dbus hits the repos. I have uploaded the debs to the server, and the server master will add them to the repo.

Note this in the announcement:
(Note that since Stretch is a moving target, libsystemd0 might get installed)
