Hi friends,

I installed MX-14 on my old HP nx6310 laptop but the wired and wireless internet connection are not working .

I am not too skilled at enabling broadcom but your inxi report says wireless is up?

So have you tried Network manager in MX-14 and what errors did it give you?

Hopefully some member with a broadcom setup will help out here.

P.S.

Also: what does like you did with inxi in the terminal. .

cat /etc/resolv.conf

say?

Note: The italics for the / for / etc don't work in code tags guys
The italics bb code just stays there.
Just so ya know.

Well, I could copy the output to a .txt file __{{emoticon}}__

Here is the output from MX-14:

Everything looks kosher to me. But the N/A is throwing me off. When I say kosher. I mean /etc/resolv.conf looks Ok to me.

Maybe in root terminal

Code: Select all

dmesg | grep firmware
if it spits out nothing. I think that is a good sign the broadcom firmware is loaded also.
Like I said. I don't own any Broadcom gear to really say one or the other.

Found this while doing a dist-upgrade on my T23.

It seems that in the working antiX 13.2 there are two broadcom firmwares in use. B44 and b43-pci-bridge. Seeing how they do not show in the mx inxi output I would guess that they are missing and need to be installed. If it were me I would start antiX 13.2 mount the mx 14 partition, visit the debian repository search website, search, and download b44 and b43-pci-bridge firmware debs, and the related dependencies. They should be listed on the website. After that I would make a new directory in the mounted mx14 partition and copy all the downloaded files there. Once copied unmount and reboot into mx 14 and install the packages with dpkg -i package name from a root terminal in that folder.after that is done then reboot back into mx 14 and see if the network works

Hi rokytnji,

I did

I did

Code: Select all

modprobe wl
and get: Fatal error

@Dave, I was looking at synaptic and the b43 firmware is installed

I tried a Tp-Link usb wifi and it works fine in MX-14.

I did an update (dificult and not very user friendly update through synaptic, stoped and I got not feedback about the configuration....)

Reinstalled the b43 stuff but the broadcom firmware is not working __{{emoticon}}__

If you have your wifi working under antiX 13.2, I would copy the necessary firmware modules into MX-14, the firmware are what are known as 'blobs' & not dependant on anything.

Edit: I would also back up the firmware onto external disk in case you decide to only use MX-14 at some stage.
Edit2: Firmware is to be found in /lib/firmware.

I'd go with fatmacs suggestion. It seems the most elegant, fastest way to go,

I avoid Broadcom wifi chips just because of threads like this.
Even though they say Broadcom has joined the open source way of thought.

They still are a tough nut to crack. That is why my gear is Atheros, Raylink, or Realtek.
I got in

I used to run a Belkin F5D 7010 .ver 6 PCMCIA Wireless G card in here.
I mentioned in earlier threads when changing wifi hard ware from a default install
on how default wlan0 for original wifi card will change to wlan1 after installing a new
different card or usb.

Code: Select all

ifconfig -a
is your friend or inxi -F when you change out cards or usbs to see what the wireless name has been changed to so you can connect. Just some jaw jacking by me as usual. __{{emoticon}}__

Hi friends,

difficult issue...

I copied the lib/firmaware files from Antix to MX-14 at the same folder but it doesn't work. __{{emoticon}}__

Well, what a pity, good bye MX-14... __{{emoticon}}__

I tried install the broadcom drivers from jessie after reading this post:

But it doesn't work for me. Now I have problems for shut down the system.

By the way I was having a look to MX-14 with the TP-Link usb wifi and I prefer Antix on this machine. Antix run softer and quicker. Probably this partition will wait for Antix 14!

Thanks.

Did you do modprobe for the stuff you copied over to turn them on?

Yes, I did. No way. And beside I can't turn off the computer, the system is now waiting for stop the hard disc.

A disaster...

@rokytnji Thanks for your help.
