My screen resolution is supposed to be 1280 x 1040 and that is what it says in the control center but what I am looking at is not 1280 x 1024. As a matter of fact this posting box is almost taking up the whole screen and it is not supposed to be like that. Something is wrong!!

I thought you were using a Nvidia card and drivers, Cousin Lucky, in which case the screen resolution settings are controlled by nvidia-xserver-settings and not the AntiX control panel.
And this is just a guess but xserver-core updated yesterday, which might require Nvidia configuring accordingly, including a reboot.

You are correct, Alanarchy!! How do I access the nvidia-xserver-settings, please?

Try running"nvidia-settings" from a terminal window.

Neither nvidia-settings nor nvidia-config helped.

like said previously there was an update to xorg-core. This update most likely requires the reinstallation of your proprietary nvidia driver. i needed to reinstall the driver for it to function properly. I used sgfxi outside of x to reinstall the driver. There should be a few mentions of using sgfxi in the forum, but if there is not i can write out one for you,or maybe a how to page

I went to the package manager and discovered that I only had nvidia-detect installed. I added the core , gix and nvidia-settings and my screen resolution is now even worse at 1024x768. However I can access nvidia-settings but I do not know how to set it up.

You might be better off running sgfxi though as Dave suggested Cuz. You probably need to learn smxi and sgfxi eventually. Once learned you will enjoy the knowledge.

It was hit or miss for me also cuz leaning smxi and sgfxi scripts and how to run them. Practice made perfect for me though. I know it is hard learning geek. But one needs to learn new things painfully sometimes.

See. No glx at all on my box and large screen resolution with the driver via sgfxi. I did not install/write a xorg.conf file either while in sgfxi either.

4. What about sgfxi? What does that do?
sgfxi is the script in smxi that deals with installing graphical drivers. As with smxi, it must be run out of X desktop. Logged as root, type:
sgfxi

This is what I now have on my computer. How can I change the resolution to 1280 x 1024?

when you install a nvidia driver using sgfxi it would have installed the nvidia-settings utility that is related to the driver. It should show up in the menu. If it does not you can run it from terminal as root or regular user, however if you plan to save the changes to your xorg.conf then you will need to run nvidia-settings as root.

Hmmm. I wonder. I went out to my dumpster pc in the motorcycle shop that has a 22" crt monitor.
I installed my radeon driver for it using sgfxi back when I installed AntiX11 base on this unit.
I did not like the default screen resolution the radeon driver supplied. So I forced 1024X768 on it for my bad eye sight.
My choices were in xrandr
I was getting the 1600x1200 first. Then I tried 1280x1024 next. I settled on 1024x768 out of personal preference.
As you can see by my startup file cuz. I forced 1024x768 using a xrandr -s command in my desktop start file which is in ~/.fluxbox/startup since I am using fluxbox as my desktop.
So run xrandr like I show above. See if 1280x1024 is available already. If so. Just edit your desktop startup file like I did but with theoption using antix control center and reboot and see what happens. You can always comment out the xrandr -s edit in startup if it does not work out for you. Hope you understand what I am trying to say here.

I used the terminal as root and the nvidia settings came up and I changed the resolution to 1280 x 1040 but it still remains at the old setting even when I reboot.

Should have been 1280x1024 cousin lucky instead of 1280x1040. OOOPs. __{{emoticon}}__cousinlucky wrote:I used the terminal as root and the nvidia settings came up and I changed the resolution to 1280 x 1040 but it still remains at the old setting even when I reboot.
