Well at least I can set the correct screen resolution ( 1280 x 1024 ) using the control center. My dektop is messed up but my browsers are OK. I've had a really bad day, today!!

Ok, Gentlemen!! I have re-installed AntiX12 onto my computer and from the package manager I have installed
nvidia-detect
nvidia-kernel-common
nvidia-settings
nvidia-support
nvidia-xconfig
Although I have dowhloaded this stuff I have not done anything with them.
At present my screen resolution is correct at 1280 x 1024
My question now is should I try installing the sgfxi while the screen resolution is correct?

i would leave it unless you are looking for some performance that can only be achieved through the proprietary driver. (3d rendering for example).
in the case you would like the proprietary driver, from a clean install i would imediately do a apt-get dist-upgrade so any X packages will be updated, then run sgfxi from init 3 (outside of X). then everything should work with the proprietary driver, i do a reboot to be sure i am running a clean session.

As Dave syas, though you may want to use the nouveau driver. To try it out, reboot and at the boot menu screen, just use backspace key to remove the nouveau options, press enter and see if that free driver works ok.

It's working now so I am going to leave it alone unless a problem comes up; I'm really tired of re-installing AntiX.
