Noting that you only have 512mb ram, I am finding that Firefox is getting very slow on a 1GB ram machine these days, so I'm not surprised it's slow on yours! __{{emoticon}}__
If you can't get hold of more ram, use dillo as your regular browser, & only use Firefox when you have to. __{{emoticon}}__

Crucial says 2 GB can be used
========= SCRAPER REMOVED AN EMBEDDED LINK HERE ===========
url was:"http://www.crucial.com/usa/en/compatible-upgrade-for/HP---Compaq/pavilion-dv1000-series"
linktext was:"http://www.crucial.com/usa/en/compatibl ... 000-series"
====================================
While HP specs said 1 GB.
I would trust Crucial.

Started it up to read a pdf and lo and behold the CPU is apparently working as necessary to do what it needs to.
Interned speed is slow (1.4Mb/sec down and 1.5Mb/sec up) on an unsecured network in UT Hospital waiting room (One son is here for back surgery).
And I would like to update Firefox and Flash Player but after downloading the tar files I got errors when I tried to extract (Linux not so intuitive as I would like).

Use the metapackage installer to install firefox.
For flash, in a root terminal type

Here's the error message I get when I copy the terminal outOf the last suggestions for updating Firefox and Flash.
I've tried a few things to overcome this but haven't hit the right combination as yet.
403 Forbidden

OK. I'm stumped. I used the metapackage installer but 'Firefox' wasn't a choice that I saw so I used 'Browser'. The results that came to the Terminal Out screen are in a file. Same fille as the results of the 'update-flashplugin-nonfree -vi' command.
I ran into one problem when I attempted to put the file into the text box and another when I tried to upload the file as a file.
Copying the Terminal Out into the text box gets me a 403 permission error and when I try to put the file up the system complains of a problem with the file extention. I can't edit the path so I can't deal with the leading '/' issue.
