Are you using the Debian Testing repo and are you using antiX-base or full?

If you are using antiX-base, then you will need to install some gtk3 themes. I suggest mediterranean-themes
then in antiX control centre click on Change GTK2 and Icon Themes. Choose one of the Mediterranean ones.

Running lxappearence as root will only change gtk themes for apps running as root user.

Using AntiX-base set to follow Sid repo.

Am at my job right now, but will install some GTK3 themes later this evening, and let you know how I get along.

Thanks for the help.

Well... installed the mediteranian themes, opened lxapprearance from root terminal and selected one of them. Clicked apply, and...nothing changed, I still have the default theme, and Rox-Term etc., still won't launch.

I tried applying the 11 Oct News tricks, again, but that didn't change anything either. I'm still stuck.

You will need to run lxappearance as regular user. So try through the control center or use
Menu -> run
Type: lxappearance
Press: ok
Change theme
Press: apply

Cool! Thanks Dave, that did the trick. Now to give it some time to see if my other issues were caused by the same problem.
