Anti:

Thanks for the explanation. Had to look up what KMS was. Sounds like quite a mess!

Running AntiX 11 rc4 base on ext4 file system. Formatted secondary 60gig IDE hardrive as ext4 and using as storage. Patch3 went into the trash can. CD was wonkered I think. So busy installing Iron Browser,Gimp,Synaptic,VLC, Java, etc......

new inxi below

Code: Select all

@bikertest4:~$ inxi -F

Had to use drvr=nv xres=1024x768 nomodest to get to a Desktop. No other boot options would give me a screen. No nvidea driver install on this install.

Code: Select all

@bikertest4:~$ inxi -G

leaving well enough alone for now.

Installed rc3 on laptop. Looks good. I may have to bite the bullet and download rc4. __{{emoticon}}__

My only question right now is that when I add and save vga=791 to my boot I get no login screen. When I remove the code it boots fine.

Just installed RC4 to my new hard drive on my Dell D800 laptop.
VERY impressive. I can't believe how fast RC4 boots.
Yeah grub is weird. For some reason it has vga=788 instead of vga=791 and all that nouveau blooey but boots into 1680x1050 resolution anyway.
Ran sgfxi to load the newest nVidia driver. Installed all my favorite software packages.
Life is good again.....

edit:
I edited my menu.lst by removing the"nouveau modeset=0" and changed to"vga=791". Now it boots in a text display of 1680x1050 also.
Did a full upgrade via smxi script. Installed java. Everything seems like it works as it should.
I really like the alsamixer monitor widget next to the clock display.

RC4 on the old sony. Side scrolling works on the touchpad, as does tapping. RT61 works out of the box. Volume control working correctly. Install was very fast. Here's the obligatory inxi -F.

Have any of you tried e4rat to speed up booting?

viewtopic.php?f=4&t=3057&hilit=e4rat

You must have ext4 file system and your fsyam bust show your partition as ext4 not auto (as the cli-installer configures it)

Phoning home for latest instructions - I see that as I write the directory with the patches for the rc3 isos is empty. Does this mean there is work in progress currently? How's the status on being able to eject the live cd, think it was indicated that might be too hard this time round. Rc4 is the patched versions of rc3, would that be right?

There are new files in Released folder. We are ready to release.

Final still has the ejectcd issue when using toram. It will be fixed in the future.
Once a fix is made, it is very easy to apply to the final iso.
The question is when will be solve this.

anti, sorry I have a feeling that I'm being dense. I'm reading this to be the final.
Could it be found here?

I noticed that this iso (686) is 680MB.
Thanks,

anti,

This is on livecd:

On the 16th final with agp=off booted to 1024x768, the correct screen resolution for my laptop, but on the rc4 and final with agp=off (kernel panic), with no cheats will boot to 1280x800, too small, when I change the resolution in session to 1024x768, there are 1" black borders on each side of the screen. Tried the following:
1. xdrvr=vesa,( nomodeset /with/and without), xres=1024x768 desktop=fluxbox ended boot in cli, no screens found, had to delete xorg to get desktop
2. xdrvr=intel ,(nomodeset /with and without,) xres=1024x768 desktop=fluxbox booted to desktop but with sqeezed up screen only way to get full screen is to change to 1280x800
3. no cheats ends with 1280x800

4 Finally got it to boot with correct resolution,
nomodeset agp=off

Ok, so now I can install, will get back later

cheers,
ohh

Tried it on AntiX 11 rc4 base on iBM M41 Desktop. I was getting 10 seconds to slim login on boot before e4rat. No big improvement over that time Anti. No biggy as I will be reinstalling Final anyway I guess later.

Unless I can keep rc4 if no big changes to final.

I am somewhat confused. Is the patched RC3 the same as the final release??

thanks

Not exactly. If you installed rc3 or even patched version and all is well, no need to download final.
