Hi friends,

I installed Palemoon but it crashes all the time.

Any advice?

Code: Select all

$ palemoon

I had installed AdblockPlus and Ghostery, deleted the two add-ons but the crashes persist.

Try complaining here:

Oh! I see somebody already has!

PaleMoon is constantly crashing when performing tasks as simple and commonplace as restoring the window from maximize or clicking on a page link.
That sure looks like a Palemoon problem to me. Not an antix one.

Oh, but if your browser keeps crashing you can't go to the Pelemoon forum and complain can you?

Maybe you should try Iceweasel, as recommended by antix?

Iceweasel runs like a charm on Antix, I only thought to try Palemoon.

Yes, I'll complain at the Palemoon's forum when I have the time.

Thanks Alanarchy.

I would not waste time with PaleMoon.
I'd expect they'll have you running in circles... to an end of either:
A) claiming that they cannot reproduce the problem
B) denying the problem is theirs (so advising you to run their busted browser bare-naked, without"troublesome extensions" installed)

I have other partition on my T61 ThinkPak running PCLinuxOS (Icewm desktop) and Palemoon works really fine there. Very very less cpu usage than Firefox and stable.

I also installed Palemoon (now 32 bits) in my old HP and I get the same problem.

Can someone else test this webpage with Palemoon?

When I click in the first news Palemoon crashes in both laptops.

I was able to install Palemoon from the Meta Package Installer, go to the link you posted, and browse around the site with no problems occurring. (Apart from my inability to read Spanish!)

I will say I used to use Palemoon, but found stability issues with it, so stopped using it.

Its main advantage is a small reduction in RAM usage, but unless you are really limited in that respect I would not bother using it.

I agree, but do you understand why so?
PM code is forked from, is approximately equivalent to, ff24 ~~ before so many bloaty ff"features" were added.
If you cared to dl and install ff24, you would achieve a nearly identical (features, CPU utilization) result.

PM is incompatible with nearly half of the 40 or so ff addons that I regularly use.
(outright incompatible, not just:"to work with PM, needs tweaked GUID and/or MinVersion within the extension's install.rdf file")
For me, that's the bottom line, the dealbreaker.

Thanks for the test @chrispop99. Well, weird, here always crashes __{{emoticon}}__

@skidoo yes, I understand. But I only use Adblock Plus (sometimes AB Edge) and I have not problems with this addon.

Anyway if not solution Iceweasel is still usable on this machine.

uBlock is better than what you list.

The manual is the better version.

Shay, I prefer

gorhill version over Chris's version
but, for casual users, neither of these seems"better" (or even good) because they involve too much setup/fiddling.

I think yes, but I don't know really...

Can someone answer this question made at the Palemoon forum for a developer?
I'm not really familiar with AntiX. Looks like it uses Fluxbox/IceWM? Does it include all the necessary GTK dependencies for Pale Moon?

As I said, they are predictably"running you around in circles".

Iceweasel / firefox runs fine in antix.
They are implying that additional, special"GTK dependencies" exist for Palemoon?
If so, THEY should be aware of any such additional dependencies & should be able to cite them, vs sending you to"go check maybe(s)"

Still dealing with Palemoon,

I just installed the new 25.6 version from the mepis repositories with the metapackge installer and I got the same crash.

After this I downloaded the built from Palemoon and is working fine without install it:

Any suggestion?
