* Bugs from alpha1 should be fixed.
* Latest 3.6.6 kernel (fixes ext4 issue)
* mplayer2 replaces mplayer
* all apps upgraded to November 07 2012.
* install-meta should now work in 64 bit
* re-organised sources.list so third party repos are included, but commented out
* added a couple of xmms skins
* xsw presentation app now works for 64 bit
* live init scripts altered for faster booting
* new live devices detection for fstab
* general code clean up for gui and cli installer

This is an alpha release as there are likely to be changes, though everything should work just fine like a final release.

Installed via latest Unetbootin v. 581. Installed to sda8 (antix installer saw it as sdb8). Triple booting so far with Test 1 Alpha and Ubuntu 10.04LTS still. Booted fast as my harley gets to 90MPH. __{{emoticon}}__

Jamming out to The Chambers Brothers"Time" in xmms. All my other partition installs are accessible in rox file manager under /media as user,(killer __{{emoticon}}__ ). No / etc/fstab editing needed.

Now to keep moving stuff from my 1st test install over to 2nd test install and try and remember (CRS) what I installed in first test iso.

We are now editing fstab automatically when usb devices are plugged and unplugged. There is a new"automount" (or"amnt" for short) boot parameter and an"fstab' boot parameter to control this:

Code: Select all

    automount=off        No automounting (default)
automount=full Mount usb partitions at boot-time and as they are plugged in
automount=static Mount usb partitions at boot-time but not as they are plugged in
automount=late Mount usb partitions as they are plugged in but not at boot-time
fstab=static Don't rewrite fstab. Don't create or remove /media directories. No automounting.
After you've booted you have no control over what happened at boot-time (of course) but you still have control over dynamic mounting and fstab editing. To disable all fstab editing and automounting:

Code: Select all

# touch / etc/fstab.nohotplug
Remove that file to re-enable automatic fstab editing. This does not get preserved across reboots on persistent systems.

To also enable automounting:

Code: Select all

# touch / etc/fstab.automount
To disable automounting, just remove that file. On persistent Live systems the automount settings should be remembered across reboots. Both"late" and"static" automounting should be remembered in the / etc/fstab.state file. This should happen automatically as directed by the boot parameters.

Only comment so far.
Choosing gparted from menu doesn't work. ie. gparted --pkexec. Also after installing synaptic this also sets itself as synaptic --pkexec.
pkexec not installed.
Also what do I need to do to have to do to get" switch to seamless mode" to work in VBox.??
Never got it to work in alpha1 either although it has always worked in previous VBox antix setups.
Guest additions are installed and part work.

Choosing gparted from menu doesn't work
just checked. I have 2 entries for gparted under Applications>Preferences>Gparted.

The bottom gparted menu launcher of the 2 works.

Code: Select all

[exec] (GParted) {gparted-pkexec} </usr/share/pixmaps/gparted.xpm>
[exec] (GParted) {gksu gparted} </usr/share/pixmaps/gparted.xpm>
[exec] (keyboard) {antixcckeyboard.sh} </usr/share/icons/gTangish-2.0a1/48x48/devices/keyboard.png>
Also what do I need to do to have to do to get" switch to seamless mode" to work in VBox.??
Sorry Bro. I am more of a install on hardrive kind of tester so maybe Anti or another member can help on that one.

(my usage context: Live, with semi-auto root persist written back to the usb pen)

Yes, I too found duplicate entries in the fluxbox menu.
2 launchers for gparted listed to applications } Preferences submenu
and another gparted launcher listed to applications } Other
(all 3 successfully launch gparted, FWIW)

For antix-base, I'm unsure why"zukitwo-themes" is preinstalled.
I'm not convinced that theme is Gtk3 -friendly (nor"Raliegh","Redmond", etc)

In a fresh install, it's a bit awkward finding that rox-filer doesn't have a default handler set for imagefiles (nor html files)

A welcome addition would be a desktop link labeled"antix helpdocs".
Also, consider a setting browser bookmark (or set as default homepage) linking to the docs startpage.

Specific to antix (this alpha, as well as antix12Eidelweis) I'm seeing a glitch within synaptic that I've never encountered across various distros. The preference"Display progress in a terminal window" generates a too-TINY dialog window. Yes, it's resizable, but the last-used-size isn't preserved across sessions. Anyhow, the small size causes problems when the post-install has interactive (Y/N) steps. It may error (upon resizing the window, you read"terminal too small" or somesuch) whe the dialogs runs before you've had time to drag/resize it. I'd appreciate hearing any ideas for a fix/workaround to this.
followup:
It's a synaptic bug (NOT specific to antix)
workaround:
synaptic preferences,"General" tab,"Applying changes" section
checkbox"Ask to quit after the changes have been applied"
^--- if this setting is checked, the"too small terminal window" bug does not occur

Weird. On my full base install. Feh opens images. Leafpad opens text files. Dillo opens HTML. The only glitch I had to fix was change untar files from file-roller to Xarchiver as default run action in Rox. I figure that is a carry over from a full iso install maybe though, (I haven't tested todays full iso release yet to be sure though). Been busy moving files from my alpha 1 test to alpha 2 instead.

Hmm, default mime-handlers are not defined during live session vs are defined following HDinstall?

In this alpha, thankfully I'm not seeing any text smearing (as I did in antix12, especially text rendered in iceweasel windows)

(probably not specific to this alpha release.)

roxfiler
^--- if it is run as root, the actions Window } Terminal Here and Window } Switch to Terminal will not work

skidoo - thanks for the feedback.

"roxfiler
^--- if it is run as root, the actions Window } Terminal Here and Window } Switch to Terminal will not work"

I think this is an issue with gksu. In etc/sudoers.d/antixers, make rox able to run via sudo like this:

%users ALL=(root) NOPASSWD: /usr/bin/rox

and add an entry to your wm keys or menu

sudo rox

and it should work ok.
If this is satisfactory (I use it on my box), I'll use this for final release.

"fluxmenu } Applications } Accessories } metapackage-installer
launch the app, then click the"non-free sources" tab
"sidux contains only dfsg freesoftware...""

That needs fixing when I figure how to do it __{{emoticon}}__

There is an issue with gtk3 and themes. See SpaceFM man here:

I like to do a frugal install and use that to install antiX to my hard drive(s) for testing.
My question is (and maybe I am being thick)...
In menu.lst

Code: Select all

#Frugal
title antiX-base-frugal-sda1
root (hd0,0)
kernel /frugal/vmlinuz quiet noxorg vga=791 bdev=sda1 bdir=frugal antiX=LMXD nomodeset vga=791
initrd /frugal/initrd.gz
What is antiX=LMXD and why must I change it to anti=LMX to get it to boot the 64 bit version?
