Dear ,
Please understand me true.At home I have PC (linux -MX14 RC) and notebook (school`s notebook - Windows 7 -using my wife).Today I connected to internet from PC (linux) (moscow time is from 9 to 10 o`clock (morning) ) . Then I want to connect near 11-12 o`clock (morning) I can`t , also from notebook. I called to internet support and spoke with technician .His explanation is" You had many MAC adresses"" You are using many devices" Technician remove MAC-adresses. I have answered" I using only two devices: PC -linux and notebook -windows 7"" When I use linux I shutdown and then take out from connect wire , in windows 7 high speed connection - connect , when I want to take out connectors , I click disconnect. And take out wire connectors.
Question: May I know from linux and windows 7 which MAC-adress use my internet provider? May I control giving MAC-adress to my devices (PC (linux) and notebook (windows 7 ) from internet provider? Or this privilige only for internet provider ?

You should be able to find your mac address with ifconfig in terminal on Linux and ipconfig in command prompt on windows 7. It has been a while since I have tried masking mac address to secure my network but if I recall correctly I was able to do so with a program called macmask. However I am pretty sure that you can mask your mac address without the program, I just not sure how anymore.

Or perhaps use a router so that there is only one mac address for your network....

MAC addresses are unique to each network device. The MAC for a given device should be the same whether you are using linux or windows, as they are coded on each device. A wired connection and a wireless connection on the same pc would have 2 different MAC addresses. A router, as Dave suggestions, would have its own MAC address. If you used a router, then the router would handle the connection to your ISP (with the same MAC address everytime) and then hand off the connection to your other PC's.

some routers have a MAC spoofing ability built in, so that if your ISP always wants to see your PC's MAC address, for instance, you can put the MAC address of the PC into the router and the router will present that"fake" MAC address to the outgoing connection.

You plug pretty much into the network and run a pppoe? If so there Are routers (here at least) that supports that.... maybe you can describe how you connect to the internet?

Ok , now I plug my cable to PC .Pppoeconf automatically connect to internet (programm put my login and password). No modem and router.
Before I used TP-LINK ???? (adsl modem + router)(at home in box) . In settings TP-LINK I wrote my login and password, so I don`t have problem with connection to internet.I can easily turn off switch in modem and plug to PC or notebook.

MAC addresses are unique to each individual NIC device, whether it be by cable or wireless. If your PC has a built-in cable connection (on the motherboard) that will produce a MAC address. If you ALSO have a wireless add-on (card or usb doogle), that will produce a second MAC address. Each device will produce a MAC address in its firmware or ROM.

Unfortunately some ISPs are set up to search for ALL MAC addresses on a system and record these. This is were the problem comes in. TOO MANY MAC ADDRESSES is a common problem. The easiest way to solve this (particularly at home) is to simply add a router to provide the ISP with only ONE address. __{{emoticon}}__

Another way is to disable (in BIOS or by not connecting) an NIC temporarily. If you must connect directly by cable, you can turn off the wireless.

You already have a tplink and if so what is the model number on the device?

As far as I know you can use any"router" type device.... as long as it has pppoe connection setting abilities. Yes they are also called adsl modems with routing capabilities as well. I do know that cisco, linksys, belkin, netgear, tplink, and a few others offer the capability.

Here is an example cisco that have been good and reliable.

I do not use the pppoe part of it, but I do recall seeing it in there and if it is anything like the rest of the device it should work out quite well.

PPOE is Point-to-Point Protocol Over Ethernet, basic DSL transmission.

Using a router (and the brand does not matter as long as it also accepts pppoe) will provide only a single (1) MAC address to the ISP, although the individual computers will each have their own MAC address.

@worktowork ;; use your router to solve the problem.

That is a good page to keep in mind, but I do know that following OEM instructions can sometimes be difficult.
Given that you have used the device before, you are most probably going to need to"reset" the device. To do that there is typically a litte button that you have to push with a pin and hold in for 15 or 30 or 60 secconds (varies between manufacturers) For the ammount of time reading the linked docs might help.

Here is a good step by step ( I think ) to guide you through what to do from a clean reset device.

Direct from TP-LINK TD-8816_v7 users manual pg 50
Appendix B: Troubleshooting
T1.
How do I restore my Rout
er’s configuration to its
factory default settings?
With the Router powered on, press and hold the
RESET
button on the rear panel for 8 to 10
seconds before releasing it.
This will reset it back to factory settings with the exception of the password I think. Default Login is admin; default password admin
