I've been combing the 'net to find as many freshmeat icewm themes as possible. I'm surprised at how many I've been able to find. I'm doing this to collect the themes, but also to share them here. (Unfortunately, the link I posted earlier is dead). I'll upload the themes a bit at time since I'm customizing most of them. For now, here are some windoze95 themes: fire95, pure95, small, and fake95. I'm also including whistling, which is based on whistler. Whistler seems to fall somewhere between win2000 and winxp.

I'm including customized versions of pure95, fire95, and whistling.

Customizations for pure95 (chicago) and fire95 (flames95): Added icons, clock leds, and mail icons from fake95. Changed fonts (based on winclassic2). Recolored taskbar, menu, etc. based on windoze95 screenshots. Changed theme from gtk to pixmap.

Customizations for whistling (whistlerx): Same as above except taskbar, nenu, etc. edited based on whistler screenshots. Changed theme from gtk to metal. Included customized leds (from fake95) but not used by default.

Sorry, I couldn't include the theme package in my previous post. Probably because of the screenshots. Next time I'll try and post smaller screenshots.

I've mentioned in other posts that I tend to use single look on all machines (Clearlooks) so my suggestion might seem a little unusual.

As XP reaches end-of-life within 12 months how about a theme based on it?
Perhaps, it might be enhanced by also theming ROX in the same way.

The timing seems about right and might attract some converts.
Does the idea appeal to any of the regular"themers" out there?

I've found quite a few xp themes - a few with the blue title bar and one with the silver. Never found a green one. Since you suggested it, I'll work on those next.

Lol. Looking at the screenshots gave me a sudden urge to do a defrag and chkdisk on my AntiX installs. __{{emoticon}}__

I wanted to try an experiment. I noticed that some icewm themes have several options. So I decided to play around with the fake95 theme a little bit. I couldn't remember all of the color options that came with win95, but I remembered the standard blue, teal, red, and black. Modifying fake95 to accommodate these choices was easy. After creating the files for the different colors, I blended in the menu background from chicago. As this uses the warp4 engine, the title bars aren't exact, but it's acceptable.

Here are a few winxp themes: berryxp, silverxp, xp, and xp-new. I customized silverxp and xp-new a little bit. I added the icon folder from chicago so it has a winxx look, some mailbox icons, and some taskbar icons. I also changed the fonts of xp-new a little bit. Otherwise, they're pretty much the same. I named my updated versions xpsilver and xpblue.

I also found a win2000-ish theme for fb while browsing through the bb4win category at customize.org. It's on my netbook, so I'll post it later.

P.S. I hope this doesn't morph into a fb thread.

i find that any windows theme is wrong for antix and will hurt us. my opinion is that given that everyone runs away from windows why would we want to make it look like it? the idea of familiarity it is an excuse given by those who don't want to use linux. other argument is that antiX is kind of political and our name sounds like anti something why would we use the skin of the biggest corporate product ever. and other opinion of mine is why use a design from 10 years ago? this is not a rant and i enjoyed previous icewm theme from john. keep'em coming and we missed you on the forums man. have a happy new year!

Remember that one of the main reasons for posting these themes here is that they are difficult to find since they are no longer hosted on freshmeat. I'm trying to collect as many of the old freshmeat themes as I can and make them available for download here.

john

P.S. I have a lot more themes coming, some familiar (crux, curve, various mac, etc.), and some that don't have any questionable ties.

dark-D - don't worry we are not going to lose our identity to a corporate monster. See it as ad-busting.

Here are some themes with a flat look to them. In fact, the window title bars and taskbar remind me more of fluxbox than icewm. I found LightBox at kde-look and it became one my favorite themes. I added some mail and other icons from the theme sky to complete the theme and named it SkyBox. I think I found dotFLAT at kde-look as well. It had no icons or taskbar definition, so I blended the taskbar from LightBox and the icons from SkyBox. I named the result FlatBoxLight. Finally, I can't remember where I found mavvert, but it's a nice theme. The title bar reminds me of openbox titlebars. Mavvert uses the default icewm taskbar, but does have some custom colors. It's kinda dark with purple accents for the active bits of the taskbar. I thought that the color scheme was similar to the shicewm themes (over at box-look) and so blended a purple shicewm taskbar and some icons from Sky with Mavvert. The result overall is like a dark version of LightBox. I call this blending shiceMavvert. I hope you enjoy.

The themes will be available in the next post.
