I was messing around in metapackage installer, and i found some different windows managers, and I installed a few of them... Now that I have the manager that I like, how can I get it to autologin... It stops on a screen where I can choose my WM, and i have to type username and password... any suggestions???

If you have already run update-default-desktop then the next step is to edit / etc/slim.conf as root to enable autologin. I think you can get to it via the control centre but I I don't have it at hand to tell you how to get there. Doing"sudo leafpad / etc/slim.conf" from a terminal should work. You want to set the default_user to your user name and you want to set auto_login to yes. For example:
If this is not enough information then someone else can help you either later tonight or tomorrow.
There should be no space between"/" and"etc" when you type in the command. But I needed to add the space to get around a bug in the forum software.
Code: Select all
default_user rjm65
auto_login yes

Edit: I just went to edit the file and it was already showing my username and autologin as yes.... and the login screen still comes up after reboot... I tried changing it under user management in lxde and still same result ....
In case anyone is interested, I installed all the window managers, and was trying them all, and the one i like best was LXDE
My boot to the desktop memory usage using jwm and ceni was 55 megs, and it is 66.6 megs using LXDE... I will sacrifice the extra 11.6 megs gladly for having a task bar i can add quick launches too easily, having the pcmanfm file manager, and being able to add items to the desktop with ease... that and it seems to work well with antix, have not found any glitches yet...
yeah I have to redo your code for shutting off the dpms too, it just blanked on me ... I'll give this a shot too... thanks again bitjam...BitJam wrote:If you have already run update-default-desktop then the next step is to edit / etc/slim.conf as root to enable autologin. I have the dpms working but just can't seem to get an auto login though tried several time the default x session is correct and the file they told me to change is correct i just don't understand why it keeps going to the login screen on boot and asking for username and password.... it is weird I am thinking of just doing a total re install since I have nothing of real value installed here and just try and install only lxde manager instead of all of them.... see if that works... thanks guys.... __{{emoticon}}__
well that works for the control centre thank rust collector...rust collector wrote:antixcc.sh in a terminal should bring it up, iIrc?

Please post or (better still) attach your slim.conf. You can attach it if you first copy it to slim.conf.gz.rjm65 wrote:rust collector wrote: just can't seem to get an auto login though tried several time the default x session is correct and the file they told me to change is correct i just don't understand why it keeps going to the login screen on boot and asking for username and password....

if it is of any help I used antix control center to do the auto login and it said updating slim.conf....
I know the desktop manager lxde installs like 20 or more programs along with itself, and I must say I am very happy with the setup...
everything is working now and it is only using about 11 more megs then running jwm on antix....
its booting to desktop at about 59 megs of ram I believe antix using jwm was about 48 megs...
i turn off alot of stuff to get it that low like cups and saned and transmission and wicd....
As Far as I know it is slim and it is working just fine now that i did a reinstall of antix...rust collector wrote:does it still use slim, or some login manager lxde comes with?

That didn't work said nothing was done at the end and I did fix the misspell in your code... __{{emoticon}}__
wonder why cause iceweasel says i have version 10.6 and I know the last version made for firefox and mozilla browsers is 11.2....
the one in chromium just says it is blocked when you go to youtube cause it is outdated and when you click the button in chromium to upgrade it then it takes you to adobe and makes you guess what you need.... __{{emoticon}}__
hahaha Yeah i had a choice of 4 so i got all 4 of them off adobe page, but I like your idea better gets me the right one for the system.... LOL __{{emoticon}}__rust collector wrote:apt-get upgrade plashplugin-nonfree If I remember right?
