A request for anyone who has the time to do this.

How about a video of antiX-M11 showing its features with the background music from the NZ duo Antix?

I only am allowed 5 minutes to run screen capture using screenr in AntiX.
They set the time limit at their site. __{{emoticon}}__

Edit: I learned something on that one. I recorded AntiX music group playing in a open tab in Iceape. I had music playing through my speakers so thought music would carry over in the recording of video.

WRONG

No sound in my recording on base. I had the previous one working by downloading the mp3 music file
for AntiX music. Then opening and playing in Goggles music manager. Screenr picked up the music in video doing it that way. Lesson learned. I figured it out. I had a mic on one video. The other was from my Desktop which has no mic to pick up sound from player and speakers.

Using

Code: Select all

ffmpeg -f x11grab -s 1024x768 -r 24 -an -threads 2 -sameq -i :0.0 screencast.avi
to record my desktop instead of using screenr, java,or browser. This is a lighter way for me in AntiX 11 Base on this emachine 3507 wireless desktop computer. I don't know how to include alsa to pick up sound though in the above command. So it works real well but no sound (I won't install pulseaudio). Anyways. Figured I'd post this in this thread for anyone else that wants to play with this.

Here is a real short .avi to show what I mean. I have to keep it below 12MB to upload to this forum so that is the reason it is so short. Damn I got to zip it up (tar.gz it) also. .avi not allowed on forum either. Guess I'll make a shorter one. Took a few tries but it has to be below 5MB and no .avi in tar.gz to upload. Like I said. It's short.

Edit: downloaded it to make sure it works in gxine and vlc. So should be OK.

Script for smaller screen on EEEPC 701SD is

Code: Select all

ffmpeg -f x11grab -s 800x480 -r 24 -an -threads 2 -sameq -i :0.0 screencast.avi
Short version 6MB video<Edit: I removed the video>

Long version 46MB video <Edit: I removed the video>

Notice the change on the script from 1024x768 to 800x400. You can use xrandr in terminal to see what you are using for screen size to enter in AntiX.

Code: Select all

$ xrandr
Screen 0: minimum 320 x 200, current 800 x 480, maximum 4096 x 4096
LVDS1 connected 800x480+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 0mm x 0mm
   800x480 60.0*+
   640x480 59.9
I have played around with this small netbook and hooked a 21.5 inch widescreen
external HP LCD monitor and AntiX also auto magically picks it up and gives me correct resolution in it also. I tested the download in my link and it works also.

@ rokytnji,
I cannot view your screencasts at the moment, though I am sure they are as always a good display of antix.

I have have not tried ffmpeg for screencasts before, instead I use gtkrecordmydesktop. It has always worked out great for me. I am only saying this as a tip / notice, I am not trying to say it will be any better than what you are using.

I tried Istabul Dave. It maxed CPU to 100% . Plus the video sucked. So I thought ffmpeg would be lighter and I was right because cpu runs at about 60% instead of 100% on

Code: Select all

CPU~Single core Intel Celeron D CPU (-UP-) clocked at 3200.068 Mhz
So if Istanbul was that hard on a 3.2 ghz cpu. Think about my poor 900MHZ cpu on the 701SD.

I never tried xvid or gtkrecordmydesktop yet. I figured my older gear could not stand the strain (Val Kilmer talking about Johnny Ringo after he shot him in the head in Deadwood) __{{emoticon}}__

Trying screenr again. It maxes out cpu also but records OK using java. I tried playing Antix-Box of Birds while recording desktop in Goggles Music Manager. I can't seem to get better volume though on the video. It played loud on my computer while recording. __{{emoticon}}__ Tried 3 times. Mixer is maxed. Can barely hear with Headphones on. Use full screen to get better details (hope you don't mind the ending).

I won't upload it to AntiX page on Facebook unless you want me to.

Sorry. Best I can do. Been up all night so passing out.

New video I made on my IBM T23 Laptop.
Made on a IBM t23 laptop. P3 processor. Used ffmeg to record desktop. Have Hulu Tv, VLC,gnome-mplayer,installed in AntiX 8.5 using fluxbox window manager. I did not run mplayer or other video apps to show they worked because cpu was maxed out recording the desktop. I watch movies ok though from .flv.mpeg4 files and DVDROM and flash plays OK also. Not a whole Lot I can show while recording Desktop on a pentium 3 processor.

Command I used AntiX 13 64bit

Code: Select all

ffmpeg -f alsa -ac 2 -i hw:0,0 -f x11grab -s 1366x768 -r 25 -i :0.0 -sameq /home/harry/Video/test2.avi
Done on base iso beta 1 install on my Acer Aspire 5534. Just screwing around to see if the command would work. Works in xdelta RC1 AntiX 13 full iso also.
You will have to change the screen resolution though to fit your screen. Mine is 1366x768. Change to what ever you are using eg: 1024x768.

For the exe. Just right click in rox and make run command dosbox. Then just left click to play. Good for older boxes.
