Now available is antiX-M8.5-rc3 (only full version)

Changelog:

* 2.6.32-8 MEPIS kernel and latest MEPIS firmware deb
* fixed live keyboard mapping for non-US locale
* fixed live pcmcia recognition (I hope for most if not all cards)
* dillo upgraded to 2.2
* upgraded mpdpss
* goggles musicmanager upgraded
* xine-ui added
* gxine added
* corrected menu entries and .conkyrc

If you have patched rc1 or rc2 to rc4, then you don't really need this version.

Deltas available this time.

Fixed it on my Belkin F5D 7010 ver.6 Wireless G PMCIA Cardbus Anti. I am gonna give up on plop for a couple days and see if anyone comes up with any good suggestions for getting usb to be recognised using plop. Maybe I will get lucky.

I was so impressed. I blew away my Xubuntu 8.10 install on this IBM A22 Laptop that dualboots with Puppy Dingo. Install went flawless.

Grub was the only snag. It didn't pick up Puppy Dingo 4 on hda5."/" AntiX is hda1."/home" is hda4 for rc4. So If I gotta test a new rc. I can keep /home intact at least.
On to edit /boot/grub/menu.lst. AntiX 8.5 is now officially this laptops default operating system. For the ASUS EEE 900. I am gonna wait till final comes out for it. Then AntiX 8.5 will be installed as deault operating system on internal SSD drive. Happy Trails and you are the man in my book. Rok __{{emoticon}}__

Anti:

Partial sucess to report. Livecd picked up my pcmcia ethernet card, but not my wireless (even after reboot). Went ahead and did an install anyway, and the same results, wireless not picked up.

Also, livecd won't boot on my machine unless I type nodma in the grub line.

While I am not a wireless expert. I think that is your pcmcia card and it is loaded up with the 8139too driver. So maybe it is either you didn't get the firmware via the kernel or it is just a wicd config thingy/

Right now it's the ethernet that's connected. I forgot to mention that neither wicd nor ceni picked up the wireless. Which firmware should I get?
thanks.

8139 is a wired connection. Do you know what the wireless card is?

Look at this also. According to this. You have the driver according to lspci -knn

Pedro, try removing ndiswrapper and then loading the broadcom driver.

Code: Select all

rmmod ndiswrapper
rmmod b43
modprobe b43
You can also, as root, edit /etc/default/mepis-network. Change NDIS=yes to NDIS=no. Reboot. Make sure that b43 get loaded even. See /etc/modprobe.d/b43.conf, edit it if needed.

anti, at least in rc4 Dillo is still 2.1.1.
If you want 2.2 and if you install like I posted at

Noticed in pcmanfm when you try to unmount usb drive by right click in directory tree I get this message
org.freedesktop.hal.storage.unmount-others no <-- (privilege, result)
I see it is a privilige result from hal storage. Not sure what to edit. I can unmount device using right click in gparted ok though. Noticed this when making persistent pendrive using the Control Panel>Drives>AntiX to USB function.

Here with antiX M8.5 RC 3 in a Virtualbox session, running under ANOTHER antiX M8.5 session, which was upgraded to RC 3 over the network tonight. This instance on the Gateway works perfectly. I may reinstall the instance on the Lenovo because it is the one where I have been having video driver issues that slow the thing to a crawl; h2 seems to think that the beta video drivers out there right now are suspect and a probable cause of my performance issues on that box.

On THIS box, antiX runs great both installed and Virtual and it looks TERRIFIC!
