This version has one major change from rc1 and previous test releases.
Dependency based booting is enabled in livecd so no message to convert on install first boot.
Startup scripts slightly adjusted.
Hopefully this will not affect slower computers, in fact it should speed up boot time even in live mode.
New dpi=XX cheatcode.
2.6.32-7 MEPIS kernel.
Apps upgraded.
Minor tweaks to menus.
wicd 1.7 (fixed version from Debian sid).
Latest transmission from Debian sid (due to security bug).
Post feedback in this thread.
Enjoy!

Hello:
I tried the livecd and had the same problem with my Dell 7500 inspiron. It would not boot unless I typed nodma in the boot options. I don't really have much idea of what dma does, but perhaps this should be one of the extra boot options? Once it booted, it did not detect my ethernet or wireless pcmcia cards. I went ahead and did an install (entire drive) and it seemed to work ok but then when rebooting, nothing would boot up. This is very strange and it's the first time it's ever happened with Antix. I guess it's possible the hard drive went bad. I'll try again tonight with an install into the full hard drive, and post about the results.

Running Live Usb on Asus EEE 900 . Connected up wireless just fine after going into Control Center>Network>Wicd>Preferences>Wireless interface and typing in wlan0 in empty box. Left external programs tab in auto. Posting now after connecting. No problems booting up on this Asus EEEPC 900 or connecting up. My eye aint still right. But I wanna try doing a persistent install to a 4 gig Kingston external SD Flash card (camera card) later after resting my eye. Will update later how it goes. If it goes OK.
update: Tapping on touchpad works/. Downloading Base Iso to Live USB presently to make a Persistent Flash Drive. Gonna practise with base because eventually I wish to install Base iso to the internal SSD 4gig on this Asus and see how the persistent Flash drive runs on my Acer Aspire one ZG5.

Install of Base Iso to 4gig external SD Flash card using Control Center>Drives>AntiX to USB worked great. I used Ext2 File System since it is SD Card. Rebooted with Pendrive Pulled and used the new SD card install to boot up. Booted up OK to Desktop.
1. Weird bug with Ceni Connect. Cpu runs at 100% and mouse pointer runs like molasses.
wlan0 won't connect in Ceni. So I hooked up Landline and connected up Ok with Eth0. Will try and run Ceni again and see if it will reconfigure wlan0 so as to maybe borrow the settings or something from eth0. Will reboot after reconfiguring wlan0 and see if it connects or what. Might have to install wicd via eth0 connection to get wlan0 to work maybe. Don't know. Just poke and hope. __{{emoticon}}__

Since above post update.
I now have wireless working in my Base install using Wicd 1.7. I have installed the Meta Package XFCE Lite Desktop. Shutter screenshot. Wicd 1.7. Synaptic Package manager. And edited XFCE so far as posted in

So far so good. This is turning out to be the bees knees Anti. Gotta rest my eyeball for a bit. Excited as hell though.
Edit: When restarting or shutting down completely. I am taken to the slim log in screen as if I logged out. If I wait a few seconds. It completes the restart or shutdown ok. Just for info.
Edit: Above Edit Only happens on my base install presistent USB. Does not happen on Full Iso Install to IDE hardrive on Panasonic CF-48 Laptop.

As a follow up, I managed to reinstall rc2 in my old dell laptop and this time it booted fine. I noticed that there was only 1 line in the boot and not the extra options avaialable in the live cd, so I wonder if somehow it's still not right. Ethernet pcmcia card was detected fine. Wireless pcmcia card was not detected. It's a Linksys Notebook adapter 892.11g. In the past, the Broadcom drivers worked fine. Checked synaptic and some of the broadcom drivers are already installed. I'll have to spend some time figuring out why the wireless is not working.
I'll keep testing.

I went ahead and installed a liquorix kernel to see if I would get lucky with the wireless issue, but the liquorix kernel did not fix it. I did notice that Antix did pickup the wireless card (using inxi -F)

So I did apt-get install b43-fwcutter hoping that that woudl fix it. But nope, still can't see the wireless card. I've just about run out tricks atm.

anti,
On this box:
I was unable to get RC2 or RC1 to recognize the network card, simply did not pick up the card, also have an ethernet card that is a pcmcia card too, and neither RC2 or RC1 picked it up either, I tried various cheat codes all to no avail,
this one, Beta 4 booted fine, don't know what changes have taken place or where to look really, but have just started my search and will update you when I find the missing piece of the puzzle. Probably the kernel, but will check it out.
cheers,
oldhoghead

Durn Guys. I haven't burned a Cd yet of 8.5 rc2 yet and checked if it will boot up yet on my Panasonic CF-48 yet with internal intel wireless PCI card yet. It looks like I might run into some road blocks from your posts maybe. Same with my IBM T23 with Belkin F5D 7010 PCMCIA Wireless G cardbus. Going 500 miles for another eye (same eyeball) operation thursday so will be scarce again for testing.
Ok. Booted up my Persistent USB SD Flash Drive on My Acer Aspire ZG5. I had to use a Usb to SD Flash Adapter as the Acer Bios only recognizes USB boot but not SD slot boot. Tried both Flash Card slots with no joy. But works with the USB Adapter.
To get wireless working on Acer Aspire One. I am booting into XFCE Desktop now by the way. I had to go into Wicd>Preferences and change Network Interface from wlan0 to wlan1 to see my router on this netbook. Changed it also from dhclient to auto also. Connected up fine after that.
Anti. I am noticing on bootup (on both netbooks) I am getting a Fatal modprobe error having something to do with Realtek. It is not seeming to affect anything. Just posting for info.
AntiX 8.5 rc2 Persistent USB Install on a Kingston 4 gig SD external Flash card (camera)
sdb1 is the live usb (isosrc) section of Flash drive installion
sdb2 is the persistent- root (kinda like /home I guess) section of Flash drive installation. These outputs show what has been taken up since installing XFCE,Wicd,Shutter,Extra Sakasa Wallpapers, Bookmarks in Iceape. I haven't installed a Mail Client yet because in the betas, I remember a mail client in Iceape. I just can't find it yet. Maybe it is not included in Base Iso.
Edit: Tap on touchpad on Acer not working. Works on Asus though.

I finally managed to test it.
pt_BR menus and apps seem to be fine except for:
- in IceWM menu, under Ferramentas, Filers must be either Sistema de arquivos or Arquivos (you used Gerenciamento de arquivos in Fluxbox's menu and that's fine but you can use one of the shorter options for IceWM).
- ROX-Filer reverted to Debian's pt_BR translation which is awful (I opened a bug/patch for that some time ago but it's still open). I didn't check to see if you used the translation for Wallpaper (the ROX app for changing the background); if you can, please use it too.
- the live-cd localized ok in pt_BR but the keyboard didn't set to abnt2 (or br). I noticed an error message at boot time about keysum being out-of-range and 'incapaz de carregar o mapa de teclados!' (unable to load keymap!). But that message was there on earlier versions (beta4) and the keyboard loaded fine then.
I appreciated the customized GRUB theme as well as the new ROX desktop.
I noticed that the live-cd didn't eject itself on shutdown/reboot this time as antiX used to do so well. Did you remove some package, anti? Maybe ejectcd? If it's a feature that can come back, please put it back __{{emoticon}}__
I have to test the installer yet (maybe on VMWare Player) but I opened it, noticed that it's in Portuguese and translated for us the Terms of Use (Termos de Uso):
I noticed too that nowadays antiX's live-cd (coming from Debian, I think) can't write to a NTFS partition even being root. TBH, I don't know if this feature was ever possible. I managed that in my installed system by changing dmask to 000 and fmask I think to 000 too in fstab (must check).

I noticed ncmpcpp doesn't work when launched from the menu (the terminal just flashes) and when called from inside the terminal it gives an error 'Cannot connect to mpd: problems connecting to"localhost" on port 6600: Conexão recusada' (Connection refused). teresaejunior had posted about it being broken plus a fix and a GUI at the chat box but it's buried now. I don't now if it referred to this problem.
Epdfviewer is broken too. It doesn't launch from the menu and when called from the terminal the error says '/usr/bin/epdfview: Erro de entrada/saída' (Input/output error). Actually the properties of /usr/bin/epdfview say it's an octet-stream file and not an executable.
P.S. the keymap error at boot time says 'unicode keysum out of range' and then something like U+ffff. But then it said the same in beta4 and br keymap loaded fine.

secipolla, you must have a bad burn or something. pt_BR works fine here, despite that error message in live mode. epdfview opens.
ncmpcpp won't work as mpd is disabled by default. You have to enable it /etc/init.d/mpd start (and in /etc/default/mpd set yes on boot if you want it to.)
I'll add the new rox translations (I did add them but rox got upgraded and overwrote the .mo file) and the translation for the terms and conditions.
