Anti, sorry for the false alarm in the PM I sent you.
I'm glad to say that it preserved the home folder alright. What happened is that I installed with a different user name and so it kept the previous folder alongside the new one inside /home. (even with that it installed really quickly as usual)

It seems 8.5 is quite close to be released, huh?
If you get the release notes ready with some advance you could send it to me so i can start translating it.

Antix 8.5 rc2 Full Iso on Panasonic CF-48. Just got through with a full install on hda4.
Before I post inxi -F I did a apt-get update. Got these errors

Code: Select all

Err http://www.debian-multimedia.org testing Release.gpg
  Temporary failure resolving 'www.debian-multimedia.org'

W: Failed to fetch http://www.debian-multimedia.org/dists/testing/Release.gpg Temporary failure resolving 'www.debian-multimedia.org'

W: Some index files failed to download, they have been ignored, or old ones used instead.
Not sure if it is Debian server fault. Will try again later. Edit: Update worked OK on 2nd try. Problem was probably Debian Server related I guess.

Running Live cd. Wicd connected ok but then went flaky and started connecting and disconnecting. eth1 is my interface instead of wlan0 on this lappy. Rutilt seemed to work better for me running live. Ceni and me have never got along. Probably my fault.

After installing. Wicd now seems to be playing nice so far. Time will tell. If it becomes flaky. I will roll back to 1.5 from 1.7. It has worked out for me before.

Edit: wicd flaked out again. Went into preferences and enabled wired default and show db signal. reconnected ok again. Working wirelessly ok again. Weird.
After running for a week now. Wicd has been stable since last changes above made.

On livecd, neither ethernet card or wireless card was picked up, could not resolve, installed with the intention of trying out some different kernels, to my surprise when I booted up on the installed version I noticed the pcmcia card's light was illuminated during udevd and to my relief it is now working as it should. Do not know why the live-cd would not pick it up but it is working and that is great. __{{emoticon}}__

Will do some more testing on this old box and be back later with details.

cheers,

Oldhoghead:
So your wireless card is working too? I had a similar experience of the livecd not pickup up ANY card, but the ethernet (not wireless) is picked up after install.
thanks.

I know these are just cosmetics but I'll report anyway:

- anti, it seems you left an extra workspace on Fluxbox (named 'Screen')
- the xterm icon still didn't show up properly in KorstroDark IceWM theme. I found that it has two icons in its 'icons' folder and yet another one in its 'taskbar' folder so I deleted both icons from the 'icons' folder, moved the icon (xterm.xpm) from the 'taskbar' folder to the 'icons' folder and renamed it xterm_16x16.xpm. Then, at least here, it showed up ok.

anti, in ~/.conkyrc, you can uncomment 'own_window_type desktop' and put it together with the other 'own_window' entries:

Code: Select all

own_window_transparent yes
own_window_colour hotpink
own_window_type desktop
Then you can modify the comment on:

Code: Select all

# Create own window instead of using desktop (required in nautilus, pcmanfm and rox desktops)
own_window no
That would be more precise.
Thanks.

/usr/share/icewm/themes/Antix-Blue 'YourFonts.theme' and 'SmallFonts.theme' must enable gradients.
For that the following must be added to line 10 in both files:
Gradients="menubg.xpm menusel.xpm workspacebuttonactive.xpm taskbuttonactive.xpm"

Anti,
with my old Omnibook XE2 (PIII 650, 256M, some Intel graphics, CardBus USB2 adapter, Argosy EN-210 Ethernet PCMCIA card) I have tried also 8.5 rc2. This time it boots regularly (rc1 got stuck while attempting to recognize the LAN card) up to IceWM, but the LAN card is still not recognized. Maybe I better throw it away, but it works like a breeze with 8.2... __{{emoticon}}__

anti, (supposing you'll keep it for the final) you put the ROX manual in /usr/share/doc/rox-filer/html/ but didn't update Fluxbox and IceWM menus to look for it (at least not in rc2 pt_BR). Also for the French and the Italian versions there are translated manuals in the same directory.
Also in ~/.icewm/keys, at least here 'sudo rox' doesn't do anything 'gksudo rox' works (I set the sudoers file for that but maybe 'gksu rox' will do).*

I'm uploading the FAQ (en and pt) with a fixed link that was broken before and some new Conky links (specially in the pt version).

*Edit- never mind with the sudo thing, I believe it acts like that because I set it to ask for the password.

ICE-M that is fixed in next test release. The problem is with the xserver-xorg stuff.

(I'll upload a delta patch for those that have rc1 or rc2)

Just posting this for info and because of my curiosity. I booted up 8.5 rc2 (haven't burned rc3 yet) on my IBM A22. Let me just say. The betas wouldn't boot up on this laptop. But rc2 does just fine. I went and tried 3 different Wireless G PCMCIA cardbuses on this. Rebooting every time with a different card. My cards (Belkin,Dlink,NetGear) have Real Tek and Atheros Chipsets that work just fine in other Linux Kernels/Distros like Puppy, Mint,Ubuntu, and AntiX 8.2. Just posting the info. Now to be fair. I did not do a install. Nor did I hook up a hard line which would probably have connected me since lspci saw my internal card/modem. Like I said. Just posting info. Love the fact it booted up. When final comes out. This will be the first Laptop I have that final will be installed to. Can always figure out the wireless later. Xubuntu runs slow on this laptop. Panasonic Laptop is running happily with rc2. I have installed and customized it a bunch, Gonna kind of regret blowing it away. __{{emoticon}}__
