I'm posting this again as I seem to have deleted the thread.

What's the difference between pt1 and pt1-beta? I have only pt1.

pt1-beta is the one that I sent to Warren at MEPIS and will be on the MEPIS mirrors. For pt1 I fixed the icewm/applications part in the menu and installed libgl1-mesa-dri. This version should have your final rox-mo as well as asunder replacing gnormalize.
The base version is exactly the same as pt1. I just renamed it for consistency.
I was going to make a delta patch from pt1 to pt1-beta, but I deleted the files.

if we keep up with all the updates we will end up with the release version of 8.5? I started with pt1 and not pt1-beta.

But in this case the changes are slight and may not affect you.
If you have an Intel (on-board) graphic card then you may add the package libgl1-mesa-dri by, as root
and add to /etc/X11/xorg.conf under the line `Driver"intel"'. See:

Also anti replaced the app gnormalize for asunder and made (as he said) some changes to the menu.
These are test releases which mean they're made for people to evaluate the chosen apps or some configs. But, again, from pt1 to pt1-beta the changes are slight and can be made easily (like the Icewm menu, which, if you like then someone which has the beta may post its ~/.icewm/menu so you could change yours but it's better to know before what these changes are becuase you may even don't want them).
Not really because the changes are in antiX's apps ao configs which aren't in any repo yet (are made locally).loukingjr wrote:if we keep up with all the updates we will end up with the release version of 8.5? I started with pt1 and not pt1-beta.

Not quite as some apps may be added or removed and some settings changed for example how the menus are set up.
But the changes are very minor.
Everything else can be upgraded via apt.
At some point, there will be an antiX repository so even the minor changes will be an apt-get away.

maybe PcManFM should come already with a terminal set:
/home/demo/.config/pcmanfm/main
/home/demo/.config/pcmanfm/main
Code: Select all

terminal=urxvt
[Window]
width=640
height=480
splitter_pos=160
maximized=0

Hello:
I downloaded 8.5-pt1-beta (full) and ran the livecd on my dell desktop. Again, I encountered a very low resolution (640x480) which I was not able to increase, and neither wicd nor ceni was able to use my ethernet connection (although both detected it). The low resolution made it very difficult to really test the live cd, so I gave up on the desktop.
In my Dell laptop, the resolution was fine. However, the connectivity problem persisted. the live cd was not able to detect my wireless card, and I could not even connect with my ethernet connection. Any suggestion on how to fix the connectivity issue would be appreciated.
The menus seem fine, although I did not test them extensively.
Once I figure out how to get connected with the livecd, I'll go ahead and test more of the system.
Best regards,
Pedro

For the resolution problem you can try to boot with drvr=vesa (already present in the menu's extra-options).
..complementing: if you still have resolution problems after installation (in case you install) with the 'radeon' driver then there are the alternatives of the proprietary ATI driver (not for old cards) and the fglrx driver (I think that smxi offers these).
For the network, maybe an `/etc/init.d/networking restart' as root could help.

pedro, for networking, try in a root terminal
dhclient eth0 (or whatever your eth number is).
For resolution, have you tried F3 and choosing the resolution at boot/grub/menu?

can I download the 8.5 pt1 beta iso and run it as an upgrade without destroying what I have installed in pt1?
