antiX-M11 has been released.

Well we got there in the end.

03 May 2011

antiX-M11 'Jayaben Desai' released

Just over a year since the release of antiX-M8.5, the antiX-team are pleased to announce that antiX MEPIS 11 'Jayaben Desai' - a fast, light, very flexible and complete desktop and livecd based on Debian Testing and SimplyMEPIS - is now available in full, base and core versions (for 686 and 486 kernel all using hybridiso). This release defaults to a fully customised icewm-Rox desktop (fluxbox, wmii and dwm are also installed) using a SimplyMEPIS 2.6.36-4 kernel, our own assistants to help configuration, and the usual range of applications for desktop use. Latest Iceape (2.0.13-1) for internet needs, Abiword (2.8.6) and gnumeric (1.10.14) for office use, qmmp and goggles music manager (0.12.1) for audio, gxine, mplayer and gnome-mplayer for video, gppp (dial-up), wicd (1.7), umt-panel2 (from aptosid) for GPRS/UMTS/3G and ceni (2.21) for network connection, pidgin (2.7.11) for chat. Many cli apps are also included such as Alpine for email, moc for audio, elinks for browsing, abcde and ripit for cd ripping and much more. Features include a cli-installer script for fast and light install, live with persistence, 'remaster on the fly', new boot cheatcodes for setting dpi and desktop windows manager with or without icons, antix2usb to easily install to usb stick. Many languages are fully supported out of the box with the language chosen at live CD boot carrying over to install. Chinese, Japanese and Korean fonts are included as well as ibus in the full version.

antiX works on computers with as little as 64 MB RAM, though 128MB RAM is the recommended minimum and the 486 kernel version should work on AMD K5/k6. antiX is fast and has low RAM usage running live or installed.

You can download the iso files from here (but please use the torrents)

Great name also. Jayaben Desai is quite an admirable person, fighting with words, integrity and intelligence as her weapons as i've learned searching the internet. Every day we learn ... Congratulations Anti and everyone!

Awesome! I'll have to give it a try. Now that antiX-M11 is officially released, I'll be using this for my next version of Swift Linux.

I am really liking the new AntiX on my ancient laptop.

I downloaded AntiX M11 last night via Torrent.
This morning, I wiped the old AntiX M8.5 off my old Gateway laptop and installed AntiX M11.
My 7-8 year old Gateway laptop, only has 182 Mb of RAM.

I really like that IceWM is now the default desktop. No offense against Fluxbox; I just find IceWM easier to use and configure. Nice selection of themes, wallpapers and Apps.

Connecting to WiFi or Wireless was a 'snap; with Ceni.

I have been using mainly Debian OS for several years now, so I know what to expect from AntiX

. . . the new AntiX M11 is, as was expected -- sharp, fast and refreshing.

I am now posting from the other extreme. First.
Holy cow Batman. This IBM A22m (mine this time) boots AntiX 11 i686 Full USB Live Iso, that's right kiddies. I said pendrive. On a bios that has no option for booting a pendrive (too old). I was bored and thought. Let's break out the ol ibm and my old PLOP Floppy from way back
using-plop-boot-manager-to-boot-antix-from-pendrive-t2248.html

so I figured. New Iso, New Kernel, why not?

I run AntiX 8.5 on this rig dualbooting with Puppy 5.2. But I am seriously thinking of wiping 8.5 and installing 11 since it passed the stress test. Nice job with getting rid of can't find file system error like in 8.5 using PLOP floppy. Just had to share.

Well, I have been running antiX images all along, and I really did not NEED to install another one, but I decided to do so anyway. I grabbed the full version for the final download, installed it this morning, and now I am back, using a Live DVD, just to double and triple check everything I use. I expected everything to work perfectly, and I was not disappointed.

Once again, antiX M11.0 is a great achievement! During the testing phase, I've downloaded a couple of different versions. The only version I didn't"beat on" during testing was the core version; I have my own core version running, and I've left that one intact.

Everything I have tried works beautifully!

I also downloaded our"parent" distribution, SimplyMEPIS, which has overcome the obstacles that were holding up its release, and it also looks extremely good.

Congratulations to everyone associated with both antiX and SimplyMEPIS. Both efforts have patiently done the hard work to make both of them outstanding releases. During development, I was encouraging my friends in the forums I participate in to test both of them as much as possible. The end result is very satisfying.

Thank you, everyone, for the contributions, the hard work, the documentation, the testing, the art work, the preparation, the attention to details, and the always outstanding cooperation and the polite attitudes I always experience from my friends participating in this work. Great job everyone!

@dolphin_oracle or anybody else reading my above post about plop. I borked my pendrive (as usual for me). So I went to my other computer and tried making live USB with lataest Unetrbootin version 5.9 something. It would not boot after I made it. So I went to my other computer which has unetbootin version 4.33 which is what worked before. So you might have to use
