When is antiX 8 coming out.. __{{emoticon}}__

Funny you should ask. Anti and I have been discussing the next release recently. So why not ask everyone? What would you like to see?

It's going to be hard to top the last release. It was very close to the most perfect distro I have ever used out of the box. I'll try to think of some ideas.

i'll like to see the latest mepis kernel and the 586 kernel __{{emoticon}}__ and a new wallpaper. optional: some changes to the fluxbox menu. antix is perfect 4 me.

edit: suggestion: in"log out" when we press"lock screen" and then exit the screensaver the log out is still open. maybe add a line to the script to close it after we press"lock screen". it seams right to me.

I would like to have the option of choosing either a MEPIS, sidux, antiX, or Debian kernel, not necessarily all loaded onto the CD, which would be too big, but it would be nice to have some tighter smxi integration in the next product. We did a lot of nice things with it in the current release. If we can do so without mushrooming the space, I'd like to see a bit more with smxi.

Other than that, I'd like to see the all programs feature integrated into both window managers. That's the topic that I discussed with John and anti a couple of months ago. It was straightforward to add a program menu so all programs could be seen from the start menu, so it would be very nice to include that feature by default,

I do not want to see a lot of bloat, though, so if my requests add unnecessarily to the size of the CD, I would rather defer and live with something very similar to what we have today. Like many others, I believe we are very close to"just right". If these features can be successfully implemented with out causing other issues, then I would advocate them. Of course, I will be more than happy to test them out, to, in whatever we come up with.

I concur with the"just about perfect" sentimentalities. I've been loving the rejuvenated IceWM. Figured I would play with it for awhile and be back to fluxbox but it hasn't happened. Love everything about the latest version and have slowly been converting several friends to antiX.

I'm at a loss for any major suggestions at this point. antiX is perfectly adaptable for all of us who like to tweak things our own special way...as we all do. The tuxedo I'm wearing won't fit everyone else.

Mostly perfect - I agree. I have made some minor tweaks to the icewm menu. I have searched for a volume slider for the tray but have been unsuccessful (found one written in python, but can't get it to work). I am trying to come up with a new theme. Otherwise, there's not much left to do. But we'll see, maybe anti and I can come up with some surprises.

I agree...this would be huge!

Also, a system tray clipboard akin to Klipper in KDE would make me very (very!) happy.

antiX-M8 is quite a way off yet.

What will be included is the most recent Dillo version 2, the most recent wicd, and the latest slim which has auto-login.

Hopefully, a custom antiX-586 kernel.
Possibly, fixes and changes to the installer and MEPIS tools.
Some apps may be removed, others replaced, new ones added.

Keep suggestions coming.

What about absvolume? I add it to all the toolbars. Works great.

Not sure what happened finally to the Brassero problem, but I removed it and put in gnomebaker--which is very nice, works fine and does not seem to be very large, given that many of the dependencies are already being used in antiX. But didn't look at exact numbers.

Use the .deb version 1.0. 2.0 version is source and it failed when I tried to compile it.

I tried unsuccessfully to get anti to include absvolume on the 7.5 release. Perhaps he'll change his mind for the upcoming release. I also was unsuccessful at compiling the newer version from source. I think the only difference is that there is a button to bring up aumix in the new version. Also, I think the bookmark for absvolume is a bit out-of-date. We'll need to correct the bookmark for absvolume in the next release (to point to the older .deb package).

Note: ~/.icewm/toolbar should have an entry for absvolume should you decide to install it. Just uncomment it.

I too like gnomebaker better than brasero. I suggested to anti that it replace brasero, but it's up to him.
