I really depended on who did/butchered the BIOS. MSI motherboards could boot about anything back in 2004 while HP was about 6 - 8 years later before they allowed any of those features.I don't have any experience with computers which would boot from a CD only.

How would I go about installing the Antix17 .net version currently available using WiFi?
The install said to connect to the internet before installing.
Thanks __{{emoticon}}__

You can't use wifi for the net install since it is extremely likely that the drivers needed are not on the iso

about the cd size
i personally dont use cd's , but i think its very important to have a cd-sized iso since antix is one of the few distros wich work decent on pc's before pentium4
like someone said before me
the 700mb iso could be like now with all the drivers you can get (video, sound, lan, wifi) without printers and libre office
and the full one could include printers and libre office,
actually i have said this before, cause i didnt used office and i thought it was about the windows installer size (bigger)
looking on their site, the deb is 246mb, how much does libre office really adds to the iso ?

antiX-base will still be CD sized. Full will fit on a DVD.

some other stuff more important in my opinion about antix17
1). the installer bug wich i mentioned in antix16, is still there (you cant install to the same hdd you booted the iso from)
it would be nice if someone can fix it, or should i inform someone
2). i saw apulse is there, i asume and hope is the pulse mock replacement and not pulse audio or at least we get a easy fix (a script or something)
3) i think this was on 16, but ill test right now on 17, im booting the iso from hdd with grub4dos, and only antix doesent boot
it says cant find files on usb or cd or something, i assume this is hardcoded, can it be easily changed?
lubuntu , others , even slitaz boot from iso on hdd, few dont work
there are other annoying stuff, that i found, but i can live with them, just posting these as feedback i have from users i got on antix 15/16
-no easy way to change wallpaper, resize to fit while keeping aspect ratio (with black bars, vertical or horizontal)
-no easy way to create shortcut to desktop
-youtube/flash problems choppy video and/or no sound
-some aesthetic bits not really on point the 16 and 17 taskbar is kinda big, and other stuff dont seem to fit
Lubuntu seems visually nice, but im not giving up antix for the visuals
-other minor stuff i dont remember, that would probably bother new users

zpimp, visit the MX Linux forum and search for recent topics discussing"grub4dos"
(I'm not sure you'll find a solution to your exact issue there, but will be enlightening)
apulse FWIW... when I tested, it didn't achieve audio playback in firefox 52.
It's a rapidly-evolving project; hopefully a newer (newer than 3wks ago) version will provide a ff fix.
What happens if you drag an item from rox-filer to the desktop? Is a desktop shortcut created?
(asking b/c i don't recall. Maybe the operation unintuitively requires ctrl+drag, instead of just a simple drag?)
What happens if you drag from browser urlbar to the desktop? Does that operation create a desktop shortcut?
If the above 2 tests are successful... what other expected"easy" method(s) of desktop shortcut creation seems missing or broken?

Default session is"icewm + rox".-no easy way to create shortcut to desktop

icewm + spacefm isn't the default session.
If you are relaying"from users" feedback stating that the spacefm desktop management behavior is unintuitive...
...maybe that has already been considered and is why spacefm desktop manager daemon is NOT the default?
With further permutations, like"icewm, plus SpaceFM's Desktop Manager, plus dragging from rox-filer onto desktop"...
I'm at a loss to predict what a given user might"expect" will result from a drag operation.

actually, there are a couple of different ways to do this on the spacefm desktop. None are as easy as teh default rox desktop, but they do work. Remember, in spacefm, the desktop is a folder (in your home folder actually) and in rox, its just a link board.
1. right click on an existing desktop item, and choose New and then the item you want.
2. from within the spacefm filemanager, choose the item you want to link, right click on it, choose New then Link. Give the link a name and location.
3. If you just want to put apps on the desktop, drag and drop from /usr/share/applications, copying the appropriate application entry. You can also do apps from the from the right click of existing spacefm desktop items, choosing New then Desktop Applications.

SpaceFM actually provides three ways of drag&drop:
(1) Simple drag&drop will move a file.
(2) If you want to copy instead just press and hold down the the CTRL key while dragging (but let it go before dropping).
(3) CTRL+SHIFT while dragging creates a symlink.
Methods (2) and (3) work best when you start pressing the key(s) before grabbing the file.
This holds for drag&drop to/from the desktop as well as between any other folders (in different tabs/panels/windows of SpaceFM) – but doesn't seem to work between devices where you always end up in copying.
If desired the default drag behaviour can be changed: View -> Preferences -> Interface ->"Default Drag Action".

Just to let you know the present situation.
antiX-17-full is c800MB. Basically the same apps as previous antiX-full, but with better (hopefully) support for printing and wifi.
antiX-17-base is c600MB. Basically the same apps as previous antiX-base, but with better (hopefully) support for printing and wifi. PLUS IceWM and new tools (some forked from MX).
No legacy kernel as I can't seem to get our 3.7.10 one to build on a stretch base.
